3. What is AI?
• Intelligence demonstrated by machines, in
contrast to the natural intelligence displayed by
humans and other animals.
(source: Wikipedia)
• Simulation of human intelligence processes by
machines, especially computer systems. These
processes include learning (the acquisition of
information and rules for using the
information), reasoning (using rules to reach
approximate or definite conclusions) and self-
correction.

7. Why Now?
• Explosion in data
• 1 day vs 250,000 years
• Fast data feeds better algorithms
• Is good data or good algorithm more important in AI?
8. Which of these movies could
become a reality?
Tron Legacy (2010)
The son of a virtual world designer goes
looking for his father and ends up inside the
digital world that his father designed. He
meets his father's corrupted creation and a
unique ally who was born inside the digital
world.
I, Robot (2004)
A technophobic cop investigates a crime
that may have been perpetrated by a robot,
which leads to a larger threat to humanity.
Minority Report (2002)
In a future where a special police unit is
able to arrest murderers before they
commit their crimes, an officer from that
unit is himself accused of a future murder.
Artificial Intelligence (2001)
A highly advanced robotic boy longs to
become "real" so that he can regain the love
of his human mother..
11. AI Advanced Applications
• In 1997, IBM Deep Blue
defeats chess champion
Garry Kasparov
• Deep Blue uses
computational “brute
force” method, evaluating
20 possible opening moves
on 8x8 grid.
12. AI Advanced Applications
• In 2011, IBM Watson, a
natural language question
answering computer,
competes on quiz show
Jeopardy! and defeat two
former champions,
winning $1m prize.
13. AI Advanced Applications
• In 2016, Google DeepMind’s AlphaGo
defeats Go champion Lee Sedol which AI
researcher thought was not possible to
achieve in 20 years.
• Go has 361 possible opening moves
on its 19x19 grid. It is so large that no AI
can currently explore every possibility
using previous IBM Deep Blue’s “brute
force” method in chess.
• DeepMind works on combination of
different elements to mimic human
decision-making.
• The algorithm was developed in
phases including supervised learning,
reinforcement learning, “intuition”,
value network learning & algorithm
combining all these, called “Monte Carlo
tree search”
• DeepMind analyse data for patterns. It
has no idea it’s playing Go!
14. AI Advanced Applications
• In 2018, prior to GE14, ZYGY Prophecy
gathers information from web & social
media, to prioritize issues &
opportunities based on interaction
scores.
• It will be able to answer “what are the
top ten issues being talked about in
this constituency this week related to
my campaign?”.

Area of Concerns
16. AI Advanced Applications
1) Fantasy Football Transfer Guru
• Import your team
• Find optimum transfer available each
game week, singling out weakest
player and returning the best possible
replacement.
• Provide list of the best players going
forward based on available budget
• Analyse difficulty of upcoming
fixtures for all teams.

2
2) Fantasy Football Assistant
• Provide top 5 player score
predictions, based on a relevant
statistics along with additional
information..
17. AI Advanced Applications
• In 2018, Google's Duplex
technology enables the
Google Assistant to make
calls, so you can ask it to
book a reservation at a
restaurant or schedule a
haircut appointment
18. Morgan (2016)
A corporate risk-management consultant must
decide whether or not to terminate an
artificially created humanoid being.
• Q: Who created the film’s trailer?
• IBM Watson created the first AI-made film trailer.
• IBM researchers fed Watson hundreds of horror film trailers to determine what
scares audiences most. Watson then modelled a pants-crapping edit using the
10 best moments from “Morgan,” which an IBM editor then assembled into the
film’s trailer.
• AI shortened the process to 24 hours when it typically takes 10 to 30 days to
complete a trailer.
19. Math Quiz
Q: Find the relation between these numbers and figure out a common algorithm behind them:
A: a * b - c
2 min.
20. Group Exercise
1. In a group of 3, using your intelligence, define criteria of a CHAIR.
2. Someone else from other group will then draw the CHAIR based on the given criteria.
5 min.
21. Group Exercise (cont.)
1. In a group of 3, using your intelligence, define criteria of a CHAIR.
2. Someone else from other group will then draw the CHAIR based on the given criteria.
24. Artificial Neural Network
Better accuracy!
Deep Learning - A collection of statistical machine learning techniques used to learn feature
hierarchies often based on artificial neural networks
1st layer = lines
2nd layer =
combinations
3rd layer = combos of
combos
27. Pros & Cons
Pro
• Precision & Accuracy
• Space exploration
• Used for mining process
• Can do laborious tasks
• Fraud detection
• Lacking the emotional side
• Can do repetitive & time consuming tasks
• Robotic pets, robotic radiosurgery
• Function without stopping, risk reducing

30. Addressing Unemployment Issue
- Asia Pacific
Source: World Economic Forum - ‘The Future of Jobs Report 2018’
• Common Sense - AI analyse data for patterns. It has no idea it’s playing Go or what a restaurant is!
• Tasks Automation – Retrain workforce to be able to interpret information. AI replace tasks, not jobs!
