red and green, red chilli peppers, green chilli peppers, tomatoes, radish,

No, however it is possible to keep livestock on the land such as pigs, sheep, goats
and cows in a paddock, or enclosure to avoid the destruction the other organic

What are the transfer options available from major airports?
The main ‘transfer’ transportation in Chile is via ‘Pullman’ bus. These are
especially designed for the long distances they cover across the whole of
Chile and are equipped with bathroom, with some offering sleeping ‘bunk’
facilities for the longer hauls. The nearest Pullman main terminal is in Los
Angeles (20km’s), but there is also a ‘stop’ 2km’s from the property, where
guests visiting El Rincon can be met and picked up. That said, the majority
of people rent a car on arrival in Santiago as most travellers here want to
cover as much of the country as their time allows and arrive with a planned
itinerary of destinations allowing for time and distance in between.
Where is the nearest school?
In the city of Los Angeles (20kms). Los Angeles has schools for all ages,
along with colleges. The nearest University is in Concepcion (100kms). With
an ever growing ‘European’ ex-pat community there is also an International
School in the city.

Can the property be expanded?
Yes, it is possible to build any number of additions without planning permission.
Chilean regulations allow you to build with or without a professional Architect’s
plan to your own specifications. However, should you build without an Architect,
these additions have to be ‘registered’ at the Los Angeles Town Hall (20 kms away)
in order that they be attributed to the overall value of your property.
What were the current owners’ thoughts / plans on expansion?
The garden Cabana stands approx. 500m away from the existing Main House.
You could extend it or use its site to build an entirely new and separate house as
owners’ private accommodation. Or, the cabana could be remodelled as a ‘staff
house’ should a new owner go down the route of Spa Hotel.
The current owners had plans to remodel the existing Main House into solely guest
community space with a comfortable T.V. / reading/ relaxing / lounge / dining, and
make the existing bathroom and one bedroom into a large commercial Kitchen and
convert the 2nd bedroom into an office.
There is also a perfect site to add multiple additional new guest rooms in the same
proximity of the existing area should your budget allow. The current owners were
considering next season to add another 4 each with en suite bathrooms - 20 to
25msq in size to each room. They have already made investigations as to the cost
of building these and can quote numbers based on these enquiries should you
require any further information.
The property and all variable possibilities to develop would also suit a joint venture
‘Team’ of, for example two couples. It would be in many ways more manageable
in this way. This dynamic would eliminate costs of ‘staff’ and with additional rooms,
would easily financially sustain 4 people. It would also allow each pair to take time
out separately for vacation or other personal endeavours. If this is something you are
considering then the couples would need to be able to do the hospitality, gardening,
and maintenance. There is also room for separate, additional accommodation for
each couple if required.

5. Why own a Guest House in Chile?
Chile is a country of diverse and ever changing stunning landscapes. Climate
varies between desert in the North, Mediterranean in the middle, and of course
Antarctica in the South. The best of all worlds all rolled into one beautiful country.

Which National Parks are close to El Rincon?
Most of the guests use El Rincon as their ‘home base’ in order to visit
the following incredible National Parks as these distances are typical for a
‘daytrip’ in Chile.
National Park Nahuelbuta (90kms west):
Nahuelbuta National Park is one of the few parks located in La Araucanía
Region of Chile’s Coastal Mountain Range. It sits atop the highest part of
the Cordillera de Nahuelbuta. Created in 1939, it consists of 6,832 hectares
situated just 162 km northeast of Temuco. Nahuelbuta (Mapuche for “big
tiger”) is a sanctuary for Monkey Puzzle trees, with specimens dating back
2,000 years. These compare in size to a ‘giant Red Wood’ of California.
In addition to the Monkey Puzzle trees, the park is also home to coigüe,
ñirre, oak, lenga, orchids, and carnivorous plants. The park provides habitat
for the Mountain lion, the Pudú, a small Chilean deer, and Darwin’s Fox.
Among the birds are the Magellanic Woodpecker, the Andean Tapaculo
and the Chucao Tapaculo.
The park features 30 roads and 15 trails which you can explore by car
or on foot. The National Forest Corporation (Chile) information center and
camping area are both found in Pehuenco, where the most popular route
begins ‘Eagle Rock’. Following it will treat you to over four kilometers of
scenic paths before summiting at Cerro Piedra Del Águila (1,379 meters).
The peak offers a terrific view of the park’s exuberant and pristine natural
wonders, the immensity of the Pacific Ocean to the west, and an impressive
chain of Andean volcanoes to the east. Other peaks include Cerro Anay
and Alto Nahuelbuta, part of the Cordillera de Nahuelbuta. At sundown,
you can enjoy the most sublime postcard view Nahuelbuta has to offer: a
sky marked by red and pink hues framed by hundreds of thousand-year-
old Monkey Puzzle. The administration of the park is located in Pehuenco,
which is about 42 km from Angol. There are 10 camping sites here, with
picnic tables, fire areas, rustic toilets and water. It is open to the public all
year round

6. Laguna Del Laja National Park: (80kms East)
The park features spectacular mountain landscapes, whose main attractions are
the Antuco Volcano, Sierra Velluda and Laguna Del Laja (Laja Lake). The latter
gives the name to this protected area, but it only borders the park. The park ranges
in elevation from 976 m to 3585 m at Sierra Velluda. Although a little snow caps
Antuco volcano, much more snow adorns the two major summits of its southern
neighbor, even during Chile’s summer. Sharp ridges and deep valleys carve this
rugged region, which alternates between bare rock and lush vegetation. Another
summit in the park, although least prominent, is Cerro Cóndor at 1,668 m.
Along the snow-capped Volcano and Glacier there are many hikes that vary in
difficulty from some very casual ‘nature walk’ routes, to more steep and arduous
routes. This is a park where the current owners have been many times, always
finding more trails yet to be explored done. It’s one of their favourites and one they
deem most beautiful.
The park is very close to the Argentinian Border (roughly 30kms) and it is possible
to ‘cross’ between November and March. This brings you over the Andes, and is
therefore not open year round.
Only 2 kilometers ahead lies the famous lagoon, whose turquoise crystal-clear
waters invite visitors to take pictures from several spots. It is also possible to enjoy
salon fishing, with specimens mostly weighing over five kilos.
Sierra Velluda is another great attraction in the park. It is an old extinguished
volcano whose glaciers attract and amaze hundreds of visitors with the beauty of
their ice caverns. This volcano also gave origin to the Verde Lagoon, the destination
of many excursions, horseback rides and hiking tours in the summer.
Las Chilcas and El Torbellino Waterfalls are the source of the Laja River, which
springs strongly from the water leaks generated by the volcanic dam.
Ralco National Reserve (170kms South)
The dominant feature of the reserve is Callaqui Volcano. Only 95 miles
away from the city of Los Angeles; the road toward the reserve has 58 miles
of good asphalt and other 37 miles of dirt road. A route that, bordering the
calm Pangue Lake (Lago Pangue) and the imposing Bio-Bio River (Rio Bio-
Bio), goes into in the heart of the pehuenche world.
Already in the interior of Ralco National Reserve there are 18 miles of
qualified footpaths that allow arriving by vehicle to lagoon the Mule (Laguna
La Mula), the Ralco River (Rio Ralco) and the valley of Quillaicahue (Valle
Quillaicahue). Once there, the option is to walk or to venture in a cavalcade
accompanied by pehuenches guides. In those 12 thousand hectares, there
are many places that only guides would know.
11 miles from Ralco National Reserve is Lagoon La Mula which has fishing
and swimming as the main attractions. Barco Lagoon is a natural Andean
lagoon closer to the Argentinean border within the region of Ralco National
Reserve. Copahue Volcano (Volcán Copahue) is on the border of Chile and
Argentina within the region of Ralco National Reserve and is named after
a volcano that is permanently active with several effective chimneys and a
pair of registered eruption processes during the decade of 90’s. The place
is also known by its abundant spas and has wonderful camping.
Reserva Nacional Malleco (163kms South)
ACONAF (The National Forest Corporation (Corporación Nacional Forestal,
or Conaf) is a Chilean government agency that is part of the Ministry of
Agriculture of Chile.) reserve dating from 1907, which makes it the oldest
tract of Protected Forest not just in Chile but in the whole of Latin America.
It is located 75 km from Collipulli on the road to Pemehue and covers an
area of 16,625 hectares. In the Reserva Nacional de Malleco you can enjoy
excellent fishing. It is also a great spot for fans of wildlife photography
because, if you are lucky, you may get a view of a condor.
Meanwhile, in the extreme east of the municipal area, you will find the
Pemehue hot springs, with alkaline isothermal waters that flow out at 37°C.
In this area there are other isolated springs with slightly lower temperatures
than at the Termas de Pemehue, but they have waters with similar qualities.

7. Tolhuaca National Park (155kms South)
Encompasses part of the forested lower western spurs and foothills of the Andes
of which is in the La Araucanía Region of southern Chile. Adjoining the park to the
north is Malleco National Reserve. The park has an elevation of 700m. It includes
small lakes and numerous ponds. Among them are the Laguna Malleco and the
Laguna Verde. The Malleco River’s source is located within the park and Tolhuaca
volcano is situated in the vicinity of the park.
Park’s forests include tree species in pure stands such as araucaria, roble and
coihue. Mammal species include the Cougar, Coypu, Chilla and Kodkod. To
reach this little park of 6,474 hectares you need a four-wheel drive. It is home to
native forests of araucaria, tepa and laurel. Another interesting attraction is the
magnificent 49 m (161 ft) waterfall of the Malleco River. Although inside the park
there are thermal waters, they are not used. The Tolhuaca Hot Springs are situated
outside the protected area and are well maintained.
Araucanía region is 154 km (96 mi) northeast of Temuco. Curacautín is 34 km (21
MI) to the south. It is popular for Fishing, swimming, mountaineering, trekking,
wildlife observation, and photography. On the way to the Tolhuaca national park,
sometimes you can see flocks of parrots, a clear indication that it is a less travelled
road. The park covers an area of 64 hectares and is one of the best kept secrets
in the area. It is
located northeast of Temuco on the north bank of the Malleco River. It offers hiking
at elevations passing 850 meters around the Malleco Lagoon and 1,830 m at the
summit of Cerro Colomahuida, 2,806m at the Tolhuaca volcano. The best path is
the circuit that goes towards
Verde Lagoon, this route is reached by taking a path of about 5 km east of the
Malleco Lagoon, on the road heading towards Tolhuaca Hot Springs, its name
comes from its green waters and the green circle formed by pine and lenga trees.
The path crosses the Malleco River and passes by several waterfalls. The Tolhuaca
Hot Springs have natural steam baths outdoors which are rustic.
What else other than above listed is in the area?
Skiing - You can ski 100kms away near Chillan and the rugged and beautiful
pacific coast is only 110kms west offering many great places to explore.
Surfing - Pichilemu is 300kms north and is the venue of one of the world’s
biggest surfing championships (2nd only to Hawaii). This was one is one of
the current owners’ favourite destinations!
Wine Region – Santa Cruz is 370kms north and brings you to the beginning
of the wine route. This is a glorious trail through Vineyards, which offer
some wonderful accommodation and tours of the vineyards, along with
wine tasting and some very fine restaurants.
Live Volcano - 270kms South is Pucon, Villarica. This is one of Chile’s
‘must do’s for many people, as it is here that you can climb a ‘live volcano’
and glacier.
Penguin Colonies - Chiloe Island is 450kms south and is an incredible
place which boasts Chilean dolphins, blue whale, sea lions, marine otters
and of course Penguins (both Magellanic & Humboltd!)
Are there any regular events or year round festivals?
There are ‘local events’ including rodeos, Artisan Fairs, street parades,
but the biggest Festival in the yearly calendar is 18th Sept which is
Independence Day. At this time the holidays span 5 days of parties, music,
dancing, BBQ’s and lot of other things.
