       Friday, January 13th, 2012
      4pm – Bronfman Concourse

Board of Directors

•   The Board of Directors shall represent all members of the MUS
    and act on their behalf to the best of their ability as directed by
    the general membership of the MUS and the mission of the
    MUS

•   17 Positions

•   13 of 17 Positions Open for Elections
Available Positions - BOD

The following members will be elected by the
general membership (all students) of the MUS
•   MUS President

•   MUS Management Senator

•   MUS Management Reps to SSMU (2)
Available Positions- BOD


The following members will be elected by students in the
relevant academic area, with voting powers:
MUS Accounting Rep        	   	   MUS Marketing Rep

MUS Math/Stats Rep        	   	   MUS Strategy/Entrepreneurship Rep

MUS Economics Rep         	   	   MUS Finance Rep

MUS Int’l Mgmt / IB Rep

MUS Info Sys / Operations Mgmt Rep
BOD Responsibilities
•   Define the long-term strategy of the MUS

    •   5-year Strategic Plan

•   Ensure the sustainability of the MUS

    •   Direct Executive Council members

    •   Foster transparency of all MUS activities

    •   Approve MUS Budget
Candidate Eligibility

•   All BCom students enrolled in courses in their election year

•   Exchange students not permitted

•   Candidates must declare any plans, confirmed or otherwise,
    in the next year for exchange or co-op placements prior to
    election
Requirements
•Only permitted to run for one position in a given election

•Submit the following by nomination deadline:

  1. An endorsement sheet (available online) with:
     • 40 student signatures - Academic Area Representatives
     • 80 signatures - Representative to SSMU
     • 80 signatures - Executive Council
     • 120 signatures - President
  1. Proof of enrollment
  2. A 150 word write-up stating their platform and/or autobiography
     • Explain 2 to 5 points of campaign platform
  3. A professional photograph
  4. A signed copy of the Candidate’s Agreement agreeing to all its contents
Important Dates – BoD
•   Jan 20: 	 	       Nomination period begins

•   Feb 1: 	 	        Nomination period ends

•   Feb 2:        
   Candidates’ Meeting 4pm

•   Feb 3:
   
       Debates 10am – 2pm

•   Feb 6-9: 		       	    Board of Directors (and President) voting

•   Feb 9: 	 	        Announce election results at 4a7 @6pm
Debates
• Feb    3rd 10am to 2pm

• Present     election platform:
 •   Maximum of 5 minutes for President candidates

 •   Maximum of 2 minutes for all other positions

•Q    & A period following presentations

• Disqualified      if 30 minutes late to debate
Campaign Procedures
•   Campaigning: “An active attempt to advertise one’s candidacy or
    intentions to run in an election, including any form of online, print, or verbal
    communication”

•   Campaigning period: Candidates’ Meeting Feb 2nd - Feb 9th

•   All campaign material must be approved by the Chief Returning Officer

•   The distribution of leaflets is forbidden

•   Classroom speeches: 60 second limit per candidate

    •   Before/after class time, if permitted explicitly by the instructor
Penalties for Infractions
•   In situations where offences or irregularities may have seriously
    skewed the election results, the Elections Committee may declare
    the election invalid and call for a re-election.

•   System of sanctions:

    •   Formal warning

    •   Removal of campaign rights:

        •   right to poster, classroom speeches, online content

    •   A prohibition on campaigning

    •   A disqualification from the election

• ClubsCouncil Rep: Appointed by a majority of MUS Club
 Presidents at first Club Council with incoming Presidents

• HR   Director: Appointed by incoming Exec Council

•   Standardized questions and scoring rubric to ensure to fairness
