Earthquake
 Earthquakes are the shaking, rolling or
sudden shock of the earth’s surface.
 They are the Earth's natural means of
releasing stress.
 Earthquakes can be felt over large areas
although they usually last less than one
minute.
 Earthquakes cannot be predicted, although
scientists are working on it.
Three layers of earth…
The inside of earth is made up of 3 main
layers of earth known as:
1)Core: The innermost part of the earth is
known as core
2)Mantle: The central region of the earth
between the core and crust.
3)Crust: The outermost layer of earth is
called crust.
EARTH’S INTERIOR
FOCUS
The place where the energy is
released . It is also known as
hypocenter.
EPICENTRE
The point on the earth surface
vertically above the focus. Given a
geographic location
Focus and Epicenter
Why do they occur?
Earthquakes occur when the moving plates of the
earth’s crust :
Slide past one another
Collide with one another
EFFECTS OF EARTHQUAKE
 Loss of life and Property
 Ground shaking
 Fire
 Tsunami
 Landslides
 Sometimes rivers change the course
ADVANTAGE OF
EARTHQUAKE
 Knowledge about earths interior
 Formation of soils
 New landforms
 Natural lakes are formed
ADVANTAGE OF
EARTHQUAKE
 Without earthquake in the world, the size of the energy which is
generated by the magma would increase.
 Thermal water resources, mineral resources, water resources, such
as healing waters, actually happens the result of an eartquake.
 DURING AN EARTHQUAKE:
 DROP, COVER AND HOLD ON!
 Stay indoors until the shaking stops.
 Stay away from windows.
 If you’re in bed, hold on and stay there, protecting your
head with a pillow.
 If you’re outdoors, find a clear spot away from buildings,
trees and power lines. Then, drop to the ground.
 If you’re in a car, slow down and drive to a safe place. Stay
in the car until the shaking stops.
Earthquake brings a new life to the world…
Should be noted that every birth is painful and
is the starting point of a new life !!!
