2. Ancient Rome
• Romans invented a new kind of concrete
which was much stronger then normal
concrete and was used as a main building
material.
• This allowed the romans to start building large
arches and domes instead of rectangular
based structures.
3. Ancient Rome
• All roman cities had at least one thermae,
which is like a big swimming pool which is
used for bathing.
• These baths were not for just bathing but also
for socializing.
• A thermae would have three
different baths( warm, cold,
hot).
4. Ancient Rome(Modern Influence)
• Many structures built today are based on
ancient roman designs such as in banks, and in
government buildings. For example, the
pillars, arches, and domes are parts of famous
buildings such as the Capitol Building, the
Lincoln Memorial, and the White House.
5. Ancient Egypt
• Because wood was scarce the main building
materials Egyptians used was brick made out
of sun-baked mud and stone, mainly
limestone.
6. Ancient Egypt(Pyramids)
• The pyramids are ancient pyramid shaped
structures built in Egypt. There are 138
pyramids discovered as of 2008. Pyramids
were used as tombs and consorts for the
country's pharaohs. The most famous
pyramids are the pyramids of Giza.
7. Mesopotamia
• Their main building material was clay and mud
bricks.
• Since the bricks were sun-dried, they would
eventually brake which forced them to destroy
and rebuild buildings on the same spot over
and over again.
8. Mesopotamia
• Very valuable building materials were
imported from other places. For
example, cedar and diorite.
9. Canada
• The building materials for Canada greatly vary
because of todays technology we can easily
import items from other places around the
globe with the exception of the north.
• This is because it costs a lot of money to
transport anything there.
10. Canada
• Modern Canadian buildings now do not have
their own style.
• This is because of something called the
international style
• This is the style you see in most buildings now;
lots of glass, shiny, tall, and mostly
symmetrical.
