1. Adverbs of frequency
- We use them to answer the question How often…? How often do you go to the cinema? Do you ever go to the cinema in the morning?
-Examples of adverbs of frequency: always -- 100% sometimes -- 50% frequently -- 90% occasionally -- 40% usually seldom -- 30% normally 80% rarely -- 20% generally hardly ever -- 10% often -- 70% never -- 0% NOTE – With never and hardly ever we use an affirmative verb: He never smokes NOT He doesn’t never smoke
2. Adverbs of frequency
POSITION
-Adverbs of frequency go: a) Before all verbs (except verb to be): I always wake up at 9.00 b) After verb to be: They are sometimes late c) But usually, normally, often, sometimes and occasionally can also go at the beginning or at the end of the sentence: Sometimes I feel depressed / Sarah goes by train normally d) If the sentence has more than one verb (e.g. auxiliary verb), we put the adverb between the two verbs: Anne doesn’t usually smoke / Do you usually smoke?
