fairies were paper cutouts, but for years the girls claimed they were real.
6. 1961
Russian cosmonauts , the first to orbit the earth. Later, Nelyubov
(center) was expelled from the program and removed from the group
photo.
7. 1982
National Geographic cover with the Great Pyramid of Giza digitally
moved. National Geographic later apologized for this manipulation.
8. 1994
Newsweek ran the unaltered mugshot of O.J.Simpson, Time was accused
of manipulating the same image.
9. 2000
CBS logo was digitally inserted to cover the NBC logo on display in the
background. This technology is commonly used today.
10. 2003
Winslet considered the retouching “excessive” in this GQ cover photo.
Her legs were reduced by about a third of their original size.
11. 2008
The image on the left was the one that ran on the front page of many
newspapers. It’s an image of an Iranian missile test. The image came from
Sepah News (Iran’s Revolutionary Guards). Afterwards it was revealed that the
image was manipulated.
13. 2012
Le Maghreb (newspaper) published this image of demonstrators in Tunis,
claiming that they did not know that the image had been manipulated to
make the crowd look larger than it was (approximately 8-10,000 people).
