  1. 1. What you need to do and know to register for classes next semester
  2. 2. <ul><li>You are responsible for registering yourself for your next semester’s classes </li></ul><ul><li>You will register online through Web Advisor </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>You cannot register until your designated registration time. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>You can view this time on Web Advisor by clicking on “My Registration Appt Time” </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>This is when you can BEGIN to add/drop classes to your spring schedule. You will have until the start of next semester’s classes to make changes to your schedule </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>You have to meet with your academic advisor before you can register </li></ul><ul><ul><li>If you don’t, an advising hold on your record will prevent you from registering </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Other offices can also put holds </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>on your account; make sure to </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>check “View Person Holds / Restrictions” on </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Web Advisor </li></ul></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>You are expected to come to your pre-registration advising meeting prepared </li></ul><ul><li>with your tracking sheet and a list of possible classes for next semester </li></ul><ul><ul><li>You can find your tracking sheet at ; click on your declared major and it should open </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>IDS students will receive a tracking sheet at the meeting. </li></ul></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Review the 2011-2012 University Catalog section on your major and the core curriculum (IDS students should follow their catalog year.) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>You can find it online at </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li> </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>If you have a declared minor, </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>look at those requirements also. </li></ul></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Fill in your tracking sheet with the </li></ul><ul><li>classes you have completed or are </li></ul><ul><li>taking now </li></ul><ul><li>Review the course descriptions for courses you still need to take. See the University Catalog for course descriptions </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Freshman should focus on core curriculum and foundation classes first – If you have your tracking sheet or have looked in the catalog, you can see what I’m talking about. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>IDS students should focus on core and Advanced Study requirements . </li></ul></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>Make a list of what classes (15-18 credits) you </li></ul><ul><li>want or need to take next semester </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Be sure to select alternates also in case you don’t get your first choice of classes </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Make sure to consider if any of your </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>future classes have pre-requisites </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>you need to take now </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Don’t worry if you have questions or are unsure – that’s why we meet; just try your best. </li></ul>
  9. 9. This is the core curriculum at glance. You can use this along with the catalog and your tracking sheet to help you choose classes.
  10. 10. <ul><li>Create and save a preferred schedule on Web Advisor </li></ul><ul><ul><li>This does not save a seat in the class or register </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>you for it, but can help save you time searching </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>at your registration time </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Review your preferred schedule shortly before your registration time and make any necessary changes </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Come up with alternate classes and times in case of full classes or other problems </li></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><li>Double check the “personal restrictions” link on Web Advisor to make sure you have no holds </li></ul><ul><li>Register for classes at your date and time </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Make sure to register for at least 12 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>credit hours to stay full time </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Do not worry if you do not create the </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>“ perfect” schedule; you will have until the </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>start of the next semester to adjust it. </li></ul></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>Double check that your registration went through </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Log-off Web Advisor and then log back in </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Click on the “My class schedule” link </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Select next semester and review your schedule </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Print out a copy for your records </li></ul></ul>
  13. 13. <ul><li>That’s it! You’re done! </li></ul><ul><li>If you’ve followed these steps you </li></ul><ul><li>should be registered for next semester. </li></ul>
