3. FIRST MOTION PICTURE
In 1878, Eadweard Muybridge created the Horse in Motion. This
also proved that when a horse is running, there is a point where all 4
hooves leave the ground.
4. SILENT FILMS
Produced by Thomas Edison but directed
and filmed by Edwin S. Porter, The Great
Train Robbery was the first movie that told a
story in 1903. The film is a classic western
film with four bandits who rob a train and its
passengers and then make their grand escape
only to be killed in a shootout by a posse sent
after them. Type of films like this were black
and white and silent.
5. FIRST MOVIE WITH SOUND
Don Juan(1926) was the first major motion picture (3 hours long)
to have a synchronized sound system of any type throughout the
whole movie. It contained a music and sound effects, but no recorded
dialogue. In other words, it’s a silent film with sound.
The first feature-length movie with dialogue was The Jazz Singer
(1927).
6. FIRST MOVIE WITH COLOR
The first full length movie to use color was The World, The Flesh
And The Devil from 1914 using Kinemacolor.
The Wizard of Oz (1939) used Technicolor. It started out in black
and white then changed into color to give it the “over the rainbow”
effect.
7. TECHNICOLOR
Technicolour was invented by Herbert T. Kalmus in 1917.
Technicolor has been used by Alice in Wonderland (1951),
Cinderella (1950), Dumbo, Popeye, Looney Tunes and many, many
more cartoons and animated movies.
8. FIRST 3D MOVIE
The Power of Love is considered the first 3D movie, made in 1922
The movie industry rarely created 3D movies until 2009, when James Cameron’s
Avatar changed 3D movies. Since then, most movies are 3D. Old movies have also started
to become rereleased in 3D.
Because of his financial trouble, Don Almeda promises his daughter, Maria to Don
Alvarez. But Maria falls in love with Terry O'Neil. O'Neil takes Alvarez's place at a
masked ball. Alvarez, in turn, accuses O'Neil of murder and tries to shoot him, but
wounds Maria instead, because she has thrown herself in front of him. Maria recovers,
and, after proving that Alvarez is a thief and a killer, weds O'Neil.
9. FIRST MOVIE WITH CGI
The first movie to ever use CGI (computer-generated imagery)
was Megadata in 1971.
The first feature length film made entirely with CGI animation
was Toy Story in 1995.
10. 4D MOVIES?!?!?
4D movies are most likely the next big thing.
4D movies are a term that describes an entertainment presentation system
combining a 3-D film with physical effects in the theatre, which occur in
synchronization with the film.
There are 4D cinemas in Hong Kong, as well as Korea.
