2. Empty Nesting?!
I am Marie Jacinto from West
Wareham MA, the Gateway
to Cape Cod! My husband,
Doug and I have three
children. The boys are out of
college and on their own. Our
daughter is graduating from
college in May. So what does
one do when the prospect of
an “empty nest” looms on
the horizon? Adopt a puppy!
Our golden doodle, Bodie,
keeps me from being a
“work-aholic”. I could easily
stay at school every day and
find one more thing to do but
knowing that the dog needs
a walk gets me out the door
before the sun goes down!
3. I am a first grade teacher at the John W. Decas School in
Wareham, MA. I have taught all the primary grades, K-3,
enjoying each position in turn. However, when I came to
first grade in 2007, I knew I had found my niche!
I absolutely love first grade and hope to remain in my
current position until retirement. The leaps and bounds
these six year olds make from September to June are
amazing. I enjoy guiding my six year olds as they become
readers and I look forward to learning new ways to help
my students meet with success in all areas of literacy.
This is my first course in the CAGS in Literacy program. I am
excited to begin this new academic adventure. The online
format is familiar to me as the majority of my masters
program was completed online. Boy, has online learning
evolved in nine years!
4. Something I like to do . . .
I enjoy kayaking with my husband, taking hikes with our dog and most
of all, spending time with our children. Reading for pleasure is also a
treasured activity, although I may have to put that on hold for a while!
