Please share a little bit about
your professional background.
After graduating college, I worked
with children and families in
schools; shelters for families
facing domestic violence or
homelessness; as well as museum
education programs. I went to
graduate school for Public
Administration and planned to go
into educational administration. I
put my career on hold for a while
to focus on my family.
What inspired you to join the
library profession?
I had stepped away from the
workforce for a few years to be a
stay at home mom. When my
youngest was ready for school, I
wanted to resume working with
children and families, but on a
part-time basis. I came across a
part-time position in the in the
Children’s Room at Greensboro
Central Library. I enjoyed the
work and was able to move into
the full-time Children’s Services
(now Youth Services) position at
my branch a couple years later.
What do you enjoy about your
job? I enjoy working with youth--
exposing little ones to the world
of reading and helping older ones
strengthen their literacy skills. I
also enjoy the special activities
and programs that libraries
present to compliment literacy—
and learning in general.
What are your hobbies or
interest?
I am an avid reader. I love
spending time with my family and
friends. I also could watch HGTV
for hours if no one else is
competing for the television.
Share with us your favorite
library program?
I love doing story time--the sweet
stories and silly songs. We are a
"Family Place Library" and I enjoy
facilitating the Parent-Child
Workshops. I also enjoy exposing
youth to new concepts. We
hosted a S.T.E.M program a few
weeks ago with the North
Carolina Agricultural &
Technology (NC A&T) State
University Engineering Academy
Outreach Program. To see the kids
absorb basic engineering concepts
to assemble robots and fly drones
was so exciting.
What is something you learned in
the last week?
I learned that being patient and
positive with others is a
worthwhile investment
