2. Two examples of the weathering process and tell what type of weathering it is. Rusting on an old golf club from a mixture of oxidation of iron and reduction of oxygen. (Chemical weathering.) Paint fading from the sidewalk due to the sun. (Chemical weathering)
3. Evidence of mass wasting and erosional events. Mass Wasting – A landslide coming off of the mountain on Highway 46 on my way to Morro Bay Erosional Event – A fossilized clam, and a HUGE one at that!
4. Document different types of Sedimentary Environments (Marine, Continental, Transitional) Transitional - The breath taking view of the Pismo Beach coastline taken off of my iPhone about two weeks ago. I make a pretty good photographer!
5. Continued.. Marine – I know it’s difficult to tell, but this is a delta we have in Pismo right before you get on the dunes. Regular visitors call it the “river”. It’s a little piece of land that looks like it was dug out, and the end of the road for the “river” is Big Blue (the ocean). Don’t mind the truck stuck in the middle.. Matt isn’t a very good driver.
6. Continued.. Continental – Professor Lawler, meet our Oceano Dunes!! These babies are miles long and get up to heights of over 100 feet. They’re quite a sight to see if you’ve never been there yourself and I must admit, they do make for a perfect source of fun!
7. Locate within your area examples of the practical use of geology. The Laton Bridge located in Laton, CA. It’s right next to the Laton Park and is built over a big and beautiful Kings River. The Friant Dam in Friant, CA. It’s a concrete gravity dam built in the upper San Joaquin Valley. It’s location makes up Lake Millerton up near Madera (a city about 15 miles north of Fresno!).
