JESSICAANDERSONFieldlabassignment

 1. 1. Field Lab Assignment.
Part One.
Jessica Lynn Anderson
2. 2. White Granite. (Igneous Rock.)

The rock I found is mostly white with dark (looks like black) specs. I found this in front of main gate at NAS Lemoore. It wouldn’t scratch with a nail and it sparkled in the sunlight.

Pegmatite.
This rock I found in a field outside of Lemoore. The field itself looked to be a farm of some sort. This rock has pink spots, as well as, grey, black, and tan-ish. It, also, has a full side of crystals.
3. 3. Basalt. (Igneous)
This rock I found in the yards of most neighborhoods near Lemoore/Hanford area. It is gray and dull looking. When I cracked it in half, it had smooth edges.
4. 4. Slate. (Metamorphic)
This rock I found near Coronado, CA. It is dark grey and looks, almost, silky in the sunlight.
5. 5. Limestone. (Sedimentary)
I found this rock downtown San Diego in front of a Mexican Restaurant. It is grey with a “hint” of black on the bottom side of the rock. It is extremely smooth.
6. 6. Field Lab Assignment.
Part Two.
Jessica Lynn Anderson
7. 7. Fault.
This is located just outside of Salinas, California.
8. 8. Chemical Weathering.
(This picture isn’t the best to show it.) The rust on the bridge, which is over a part of Lake Tahoe is an example of Chemical Weathering.
9. 9. This is just outside of Carson City, Nevada. The road is an example of Mechanical Weathering. It is worn down from cars and snow storms.
Mechanical Weathering.
10. 10. Erosion.
This is a picture of the mountains just East of Lake Tahoe. The falling rocks on the right side of the road are an example of erosion. The abnormal amount of snow in the past year has negatively affect the beautiful mountains.
11. 11. This is a river called Little Spokane River, which is located in Spokane, WA. My dad owns a piece of the river since his land is up against it. This is an example of Continental Sedimentary Environments, because the river flooded this past winter and ruined the surrounding areas.
Sedimentary Environment.
12. 12. Sedimentary Environment.
This was taken at my favorite place in the world…Newport Beach, California, which is an example of Marine Sedimentary Environment, as well as, all of the beaches in the world.
13. 13. This was, also, taken at Newport Beach, California. This is a picture of a Transitional Sedimentary Environment, because it shows “the transition between marine and continental environments.”
(Pg. 220 Tarbuck; Lutgens; Tasa.)
Sedimentary Environments.
14. 14. Practical use of geology.
Coronado Bridge, California.
