4. INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)
• IUI is an artificial insemination.
• In this technique, sperm is directly inserted
into a woman's uterus when she is ovulating.
• IUI is recommended when:
a) The male’s semen sample is slightly below
the normal range.
b) Females with ovulation problems or mild
endometriosis.
c) Couples have unexplained infertility.

5. INTRACYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION
(I.C.S.I)
• ICSI is Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).
• In this technique, sperm is directly injected into
the egg using a micromanipulator.

b) Problems in getting an erection
d) Oddly shaped sperms
c) Extremely low or zero sperm count

6. IN-VITRO FERTILIZATION (IVF)
• IVF refers to the fertilization process that occurs outside the human
body, in a plastic dish in the embryology laboratory.
• IVF is recommended for:

fallopian tube, endometriosis or ovulation problems
c) Male factor infertility, in which sperm count, motility

• It is a process to diagnose the number of

10. LASER ASSISTED HATCHING
• Assisted Hatching facilitates the embryo
hatching process by thinning outer layer of
embryo using a laser beam, which may
increase the chances of pregnancy.
• Assisted Hatching could be considered in:
a) Older women, as they tend to have eggs with
a thicker Zona Pellucida
b) Repeated IVF-trial failure
d) Weak embryo quality in which self-hatching
is not expected

11. P.E.S.A / T.E.S.A
• P.E.S.A. is a technique for retrieving sperm from
the epididymis. No anesthesia is required.
• It is often used in cases where the male
partner has one of the following:
b) primary testicular problems with deficient
sperm production
a) no sperms are found in semen sample and
there are sperms in testis (blocked tube in
male)
• If sperm cannot be found in the epididymis (PESA),
TESA is used to extract sperm from testicular tissue.
It is done under local anesthesia in the OT .

• It is a process to diagnose male infertility
• It is recommended:
a) post sperm analysis
b) When a blockage in the testicles may be
