Portfolio Book 3
1. emergency cargos
These emergency communities are built around the ideas of hope, opportunity, and protection. It is a safe, dry, clean environment
for people (individuals and families) who have lost their jobs or just come across hard times and need shelter while they look for a
job and reassemble their lives. While the community set up does have the potential to feel like a permanent living space, the tenants
are only allowed to stay for a period of 90 days, and use the services provided to get their lives back on track. There is also room for
people with cars to park if they just need to stay the night. The admission cargo containers will include a check in and security desk,
a space where advisors can help people find jobs and bulletins can be posted for housing or support services, a supervised laundry
facility, and storage spaces for certain personal supplies the tenants might need. Near the admission cargos are the kitchen and bath
containers, which are both open and supervised 24 hours a day. The bath/shower trailers are rented and include bathrooms,
showers, and changing areas all in one, there will be one for men and one for women. The kitchen has of a soup kitchen set up, with
an accessible microwave for the tenants to use themselves. The sleeping cargos are separated into two sections for families and
individuals. Each unit is a 20x8 cargo container, and will sleep four, or five for the family units. These units consist of sleeping spaces,
a locker to store personal effects, and seating in the family units. Materials are mostly found or recycled objects, cheap and durable
materials, and donated supplies and food.
