2. ITC’s Yesterday
ITC’s were set-up by the Ohio Department of Education in
1979 to provide technology support services to school
districts. Each are required to provide “core services” to
schools including accounting, payroll, support for EMIS
reporting, library automation and curricular resources. In
addition, ITC’s may offer other technology-related services to
schools. There were originally 27 ITC’s and each were
responsible for serving a specific region of the state of Ohio.
3. ITC’s Today
Over time, some ITC’s have voluntarily merged to create
greater financial and operational efficiencies. Today there are
21 ITC’s in the state with no constraints on the regions they
serve, however school districts are often loyal to the ITC that
originated for their region.
