3. BERKLEE’S DIVERSITY
STATEMENT
“ We view diversity holistically, understanding that the definition is
constantly evolving. Our definition of diversity includes race, color,
gender identity, nationality, ethnicity, class, religion, ability, age, and
sexual orientation. We also know that a diversity of ideas,
approaches, disciplines, and learning and musical styles are
essential to inclusion and equity. The integration of myriad cultural
values and perspectives into what we do at all levels, from teaching
to decision-making, is critical. ”
4. THE MISSION
Objectives
To define and refine the individual talents of our students by
providing a broad range of major programs offered by a
distinguished faculty, and to prepare them for careers in music
that reflect the diversity of expression and opportunities that
define music today.
To enable our students to employ their musical education in a
global society by providing a coherent liberal arts curriculum that
informs their thinking about issues that have shaped our time.
To encourage our students to appreciate and apply music's
enormous force for the enrichment of society and intercultural
understanding.
5. MISSION CONT.
To cultivate a supportive learning environment by actively promoting
a climate of respect for personal and cultural differences, and by
offering a range of services and activities to support the needs of the
student musicians who come to us from around the world.
To maintain the vitality of our college community by encouraging and
supporting continuing professional development for all of its
members.
To provide an environment in which all know that they are full and
valued members of the community.
To value ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional
life by establishing a community that values integrity in all
relationships.
To retain our leadership position in music education and to ensure
that our curriculum remains relevant by pledging to value academic
freedom and innovation.
6. DO OTHER DEPARTMENTS INCLUDE
THE MISSION IN THEIR LITERATURE?
Student Services offices such as Financial Aid and the Bursars
Office do not include the mission in their web pages at all. Not
only that, but they do not mention diversity either.

9. FRONT DESK EMPLOYEE JOB
DESCRIPTION
Official Job Description that Student
Employment was using prior to this year
looked like this….
10.
11. They then asked our current
Student Supervisor to rewrite the
job description, and that is now
the one that they use. That
description looks like this…
12. Do you wish to do something to give back to the school that has shaped you
into the amazing musician that you are today? You’ve spent some time here,
and know some of the general operations of the college. Put that knowledge to
good use to help your fellow students and faculty members by being part of the
Front Desk Family!
Here at the Front Desk we help anyone from students and teachers to
parents and the occasional curious visitor. Be prepared to answer any and all
questions regarding the daily operations of Berklee, as well as directing people
to the facilities or resources they are looking for. If you enjoy helping others,
are outgoing, and don’t mind the occasional challenging customer, then this
job just is for you!
If you have ever signed out a piano or percussion practice room, then
you are familiar with some of our biggest responsibilities. Here at the Front
Desk, we assign and monitor the practice facilities in addition to signing
students up to use multipurpose classrooms. Giving out practice rooms on top
of providing information to students and answering phone calls can get a little
hectic. Having a good work ethic, along with great social and organizational
skills are crucial to offering the best service possible.
All in all the Front Desk Family is exactly what it is, a Family. If you
want to be on the front line of the Berklee campus happenings then the Front
Desk Student Assistant is the job for you!
13. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT…
The new 142 Lobby and the plans for 150 entrance are making
the institution more accessible to students with a variety of
disabilities.
There is not much art work on display, but the physical
environment is not offensive to anyone as far as I can see.
