Cultural Identity In Basketball, Basketball And Basketball
What is cultural identity? How does one develop a cultural identity? I believe a person's cultural identity is determined by the people that surround
you and the things that you do. So, what is my cultural identity? My own cultural identity is based around many of the experiences I have had and
the people I've met. If you asked people what best describes me, they would probably say I'm a sports jock. My parents have had influence on all
aspects of my life. My friends have had a huge impact on who I am.. The combination of these three things I cherish, has shaped me and my cultural
identity.
Sports have had significant effect on me as a person and my cultural identity. Iplay both basketball and baseball. Both sports have given me
opportunity to grow as a player and a person. I feel like basketball represents me because to succeed in it, it takes hard–work, dedication, and a little bit
of skill. I try to apply those three things in everything I do. Basketball has always kept me driven to accomplish my goals. It has always given me
an escape from all the pressures of the world. Basketball has quickly become one of the main hobbies in my life. Most of my free time consists of
playing basketball, talking about it, or playing a basketball video game. Not only has basketball influenced my interests, it has also impacted the way I
act and treat others. When I first started basketball, I would argue with referees, trash talk the opposing players, and butt heads with my coach. Now,

The Influence Of Basketball
Barbara is an old lady with loose skin and is very wrinkly. She is also very friendly, loves to play, and watching Basketball. One day she was thinking
that she needed to do more exercise. One day while Barbara was playing bingo with her friends she started thinking about her favorite basketball team
the Lakers.
She then exclaimed to her friends " I'm out, gonna go play some B–Ball today." Then dramatically walks out while a woman was screaming
"BINGO!!!!!!!" Barbara heads to the arcade where she can help practice her shooting. After few minutes of continually missing she finally got the hang
of things and was able to make most of her shots.
She left to the park to play someone there. She sees some people playing that were white, tall, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the seven foot giant marched down the court Barabar followed in an attempt to steal the ball. She gave a quick burst of energy and managed to
steal the ball from his hands. She goes for the layup and makes it.
It was winners ball so she got the ball again. She checkmates it and runs to the 3 point line and shoots. She makes it and starts doing her victory dance
that kind of looked like the chicken dance.
It was 4–0 now the guy was scared because Barbara was dribbling between the legs. She drives in and dunks it. After that the guy forfeited and
congratulated Barbara.
Her friends came out of the bushes and started screaming "Old people rule!!!!" The people on the basketball court started chanting with the elderly
agreeing with them not even trying to argue. Someone captured the whole game on film and uploaded it on the internet. Weeks later they contacted
Barbara and took her to a show to her ask how she's in such good shape. She answered "I just walk and play B–Ball." The audience starts clapping and
the host of the show shows the film.
Barbara returns home after the show and goes to sleep. In the morning when she went back she went to her bingo game then to the basketball court.
She continued going as much as she could. Her quote was "Ball is life not

Strength One – Fitness Component: Agility
In my chosen activity of Basketball, I have identified agility as my main strength.
Agility is the ability for a player to move and change direction quickly.
As a point guard, I have to be changing direction all the time all around the court. This means I need to be able to run around the court to create
space, or even to get into space myself. I go through different phases in a game where I need to change direction quickly in order to lose the defender.
Having great agility allows me to support teammates that are in trouble, this could be from being trapped by defenders in a double team, ... Show more

They had players that were supposedly unfit so it was easy to get away from them and create space. Our ball movement as a team was outstanding,
when creating space on the court, I found that there were more of my teammates wide open to take a shot which leads us to more opportunities to
score. My extra speed and great level of agility helps to get to the basket a lot easier. Being a lot faster than the opposition was crucial to manoeuvre
around the court without worrying about defenders tracking me, I was able to be wide open for a free jump shot. Using agility, I caused defenders to
run into each other which caused a mix–up to occur defence this lead to more shots and opportunities to

The Core Of Basketball
The core of our body is more than just abdominals. The core also consists of the muscles around hips, back, and chest. In the game of basketball,
developing a strong core is necessary to reduce risk of injury, perform basic functions of the sport, increase balance and stability, and stabilize spine
and pelvis. The fundamentals of basketball include passing (overhead, chest, and bounce passing). Other fundamentals include shooting, dribbling,
pivoting, screening, defense, and cutting. Basketball is sport that relatively uses the entire body and large muscles groups simultaneously. Therefore,
core training requires more than what people like to call "ab exercises" such as crunches and sit–ups. A strong core is developed by exercising various

Basketball and Soccer
America is a country that loves sports. Two of America's most popular sports are basketball and soccer. Many children participate in the sports every
year. Similarities are abundant between the two. Both sports require team work. Also the main purpose of both is to put a ball into a netted goal.
However, there are some very important key differences. Soccer is played on a field that is much larger and there is a goalie that constantly defends
the goal. While basketball is played on a smaller hardwood court with fewer players active at once. Furthermore, soccer is low scoring and more
strategic when compared to basketball, which has final scores in the hundreds. All in all, many similarities there are huge differences between ... Show

Sexism In Basketball
Even from the start of the game of basketball it was seen as a male sport. The creator of basketball Dr. James Naismith, a physical education instructor
at the YMCA College in Springfield, Massachusetts, formed the sport in 1891 as a way to condition outdoor athletes during the winter months. Not
until a year later did a gymnastics instructor Senda Berenson Abbott adapt Dr.James Naismith's basketball rules for women.
Basketball is one of the biggest sports in America. It is also popular around the worlds. Men's basketball, in particular, is given much more preference
in American society. Many would argue that the comparison of the two simply boils down to sexism in sports, where people downgrade the strength
and athletic ability of women in our society according to typical gender roles. However, there may be more confounding factors that are generally
overlooked.
Men's college basketball teams are able to be transported on planes and dine on steak, while a women's team from the same college, travels in a van
and eats fast food? It's not fair, but this occurs often nowadays even with laws passed preventing this type of discrimination. Today there are some
problems in high schools that give a disadvantage to the girls such as, insufficient scholarships for girls, not enough coaching ... Show more content on

equity in athletics, but it originally had nothing to do with sports. It was a part of a larger legislative act passed to avoid any type of discrimination in

Kinesics In Basketball
Examining and Developing Conscious Kinesics in Basketball There is a substantial amount of qualities that go into becoming a complete basketball
player. Perhaps the most important quality to possess, in order to be a great player, is the ability to understand and improve the use and recognition of
kinesics. According to Dr. Gretchen N, Foley, author of NonverbalCommunication in Psychotherapy, about 65 percent of communication is nonverbal.
This means most of peoples emotions are shown through their actions. These actions are classified by body language, eye contact, gestures, and facial
expressions. Therefore, the game of basketball is full of nonverbal communication. Speaking from experience, kinesics is seen throughout pre–game,
in–game, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As talked about before, kinesics is a skill that can be improved upon. In fact, an experiment was conducted by Natalie Sebanz, a graduate of
Radboud University Nijmegen, showed that after one subject saw numerous pass fakes and actual passes they were able to determine when they
were going to receive the ball or be duped. The study showed that people have different postural cues when faking or actually passing, similar to a
poker players tell (Sebanz 1). Players work on dribbling, shooting, passing, among other actions without realizing the kinesics behind them. When
players are working on crossovers, hesitations, spin moves, and behind the back dribbles, they are practicing deception. Kids growing up watching
their favorite NBA players pull off some of these miraculous moves are not appreciating them for the deceit behind them, instead they are consumed
by the appeal factor of the move. However, dribble moves are not the only way that defenders are deceived. Other ways to swindle an opponent are
by changing speeds, ball fakes, and using or not using eye contact. Furthermore, coaches and players establish plays with gestures during the course of
a basketball game so they can deceive the competition and communicate without using words. Not only the players and coaches, but the referees have
their own gestures to inform the scorers table and crowd of a foul call. As the game progresses, these actions become more strenuous on the

Evolution Of Basketball
The Evolution of Basketball Imagine, that in 1896, the first ever professional basketball is being played on the third floor of Masonic Temple Hall in
New Jersey, that was held in a banquet hall, which was enclosed with sharp and dangerous chicken wire that you could easily be cut with. The game of
basketball, as you can tell, has developed a great margin over time. As far as the ball and net itself, to the rules and way the game is played, there
were many different causes for changes that had positive effects, as well as some that may have had some negative effects. ... Show more content on

Rule changes are enforced by the NBA ( National Basketball Association ) and are mainly made to improve the way the game is played, such as
keeping it more fast paced, or to improve player safety and fairness. An example of this is the rule change for a jump ball after every made basket.
The reason for this was that people wanted to keep the game fast paced, and this rule was slowing the game down considerably. It was slowing the
game down because once your team scored, the game would be stopped, and you would have to set up at the middle of the court again to execute
the jump ball. All in all, the slowness of the game would be less interesting to viewers than an upbeat fast paced game. And if the viewers and
players lost interest in the game, the popularity and hype would slowly die down. This is why the NBA enforced the rule that when the a team
scores, the opposite team has to inbound the ball from the baseline that the basket was just scored on, to make sure the game had no more
unnecessary stoppage of plays (Evolution of the Game Basketball). Another example of this is the rule of amount of players allowed on each team
on the court at once. When the game was originally created, There was no limit to the amount of players allowed on the court at once. Some
competitive teams would have 50 players on the court at once! As you can assume, this was absolute chaos. The "respective" amount of players
was 9 on each team are allowed on the court, but there was no specific "rule" enforcing this. It was more the less like good basketball edicate. Not
only was this chaos, it was at the same time unfair. Since the teams did not have to have the same amount of players on the court, one team could be
playing with 20 and the other with four. Teams would be blowing out opponent after opponent because frankly they did not care how many players
they had. If they needed 100 players they would bring

Basketball : The Success Of High School Basketball
There are many high school basketball phenoms that are scouted by pro teams even when they are in high school. A select few in the past have
gone straight to the NBA out of high school and had a lot of success, while some players go to college all four years to develop their skills at the next
level. However, there are athletes that will waste one year at the college level just so they could get to the NBA. Why would you waste one year of
your life when you could have already been in the NBA a year earlier? Basketball players should either go to college all four years and enhance their
skills and get a solid education. If not, skip college and go straight to the NBA, rather than wasting a year of your life, and possibly a classroom seat
for a person who wanted to get an education. Kwame Brown was consistently rated as the "best high school player" in his class, which also included
high school standouts Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. He was the high school player of the year as a senior in Georgia. Brown finished his high
school career at the historic Glynn Academy as the school's all–time leading rebounder and shot–blocker , and also finished second all–time as a scorer
and he was named to the 2001 McDonald's All–American Team. Everyone just assumed that Brown was going to be the next "big thing" coming out
of high school. "Due to Brown's incredible size at just 18 years old (6'10, 240 lbs.), Brown was widely seen as a "can't miss" prospect"(Beaulieu). He

Basketball And Basketball : Basketball Vs. Basketball
Basketball is the best sport in the nation. It was created by a Canadian man named James Naismith and he was a PE teacher. The first basketball
goals were peach baskets and they played in cages made of chicken wire and mesh. At the beginning of basketball, they used soccer balls before actual
basketballs were created. They also did not dribble a lot at the beginning of basketball, they would catch the ball and take a couple of steps to slow
down or stop. Since then the game of basketball has changed greatly, no one is no longer playing in cages with wires, and the game requires a lot of
athleticism and ability. The game is very entertaining and fast–paced. When watching basketball you have to stay engaged in the game or you just

In basketball, you don't really have to try that hard in practice to the point where somebody has to get hurt. Basketball and Football both cause
concussions, concussions are very dangerous because you could pass out, get brain damage, and you wouldn't be able to play for a couple of
weeks. Concussions are caused by very hard contact or somebody call fall on your head. If a person gets a concussion they won't be able to run for
some time. A good treatment for a concussion is to get a lot of rest and don't try to do anything that will make it worst. Most of the time the players
don't rest they be too quick to try to get back to what they were doing that when they do come back then they probably are out once again.
Basketball has as many injuries as football and they both be having injuries that are very serious and could end someone's career. When basketball
was first created they used to get injured a lot during the intense games. Most of the time it doesn't end their careers because they are having a lot of
money to do physical therapy to get back to playing on the court. Sometimes it's best for them to just stay out for the amount of time that they are
supposed to so that they will have the right amount of time to heal and won't get injured quickly and will most likely play better then they played
before the injury. Most of the time they have to train a lot to

Physics of Basketball
Physics takes part in our everyday lives without us even recognizing it. In simple every day functions like when we walk, how our vehicles function
properly, and even how we play sports. We go on each day with no recognition of physics until it is pointed out to us. The concept of physics is the
study of fundamental structures and interactions in the physical universe. We learn physics to get a better understanding of the universe and the
objects in it (Ostdiek). Now, that I have given you a brief description of what physics is and why we learn it, I am going to tell you how physics applies
to shooting a basketball.
Shooting a basketball is a simple concept. All you do is align your feet towards the goal, put the ball in place, and then shoot; easy right? Not exactly,
just because you do these steps does not mean you will get a perfect shot every time and make the basket.
First, were going to start with setting the shot up with a dribble, most players can shoot off of the dribble. When dribbling a basketball a shooter
releases the ball towards the floor with a force that makes the ball come back into their palm. When the force of the ball goes toward the floor with
different speeds it causes the ball to have a different velocity which can make the ball come back into the dribblers hand much quicker. We can also
look at dribbling through energy. When a shooter is holding the basketball it has potential energy. Upon the balls release to the floor, the potential
energy is

Basketball : My Life, And Physical Benefits Of Basketball
Basketball is a game that requires not only skill, but also strategy and hustle. If you cannot handle the pressure, with defenders all up in your face and
the fans screaming at the top of their lungs, then it is not a game for you. I love basketball because it benefits me physically, mentally, and socially.
From practice to the game itself, to the traveling time, each aspect of being involved on a team is an opportunity to improve and enhance my life. The
many benefits that it provides are far–reaching and I believe that they not only affect my present life but will impact my future, as well.
Something that basketball has given me is a variety of physical benefits. One of these benefits is building endurance. Sometimes a basketball game
can seem like running a marathon, sprinting up and down the court so many times. This requires a lot of endurance if I don't want to be left
behind, panting like a dog on the other end of the court. In order to be able to do this, there is much conditioning work done in practice. In addition
to being able to help with endurance, this same type of training also helps me to be quick. Speed is just as necessary as endurance in basketball. The
natural consequences of the activities we do in order to achieve speed and endurance have other benefits, as well. Being in good physical shape gives
me more energy so I can accomplish more tasks. Practicing dribbling and shooting has helped to improve my coordination and balance, which not only

Inequality In Basketball
Gender Inequality in Basketball
Argumentative Essay
In 1871, Dr. James Naismith invented basketball as an activity for his male students at a YMCA school in Massachusetts. A year later, Senda
Berenson who is a physical education teacher organized the first women basketball team at Smith College. The rules of the sport for men were more
complex than those of the women. It was adapted to women and later recognized as netball. The first time that female athletes were given a chance to
play a full court basketball game was in the year 1971 because they were considered vigorous enough to perform the activity. A year after the first full
court women's basketball game, President Nixon signed Title IX of Educational Amendment (US Sports Academy, 2008). Title IX states that no
person should be prohibited from activities and discriminated for their sexual category. There is also a Philippine act similar to this, which is the

The factors that make the game more exciting are the reaction of the live audience and watching the popular athletes that play the sport. There is
abundance of money in the advertisement of men's basketball that will lead to high television ratings and a high percentage of attendance in their
games (Silverman, 2015). For this reason critics believe that men's basketball is more exciting to watch because of the popular players, the live
audience and also the high quality of advertising and screening. Though the previous argument is valid, there is a lack of funding in women's
basketball that serves as a hindrance to acquire recognition (Bailey, 2013). If women's basketball advertising are given the same amount of money that
is given to men, their games will be more exciting because there will be more live viewers and higher quality

Basketball Monologue
I have played basketball for as long as I can remember, but I never had a true love for the sport. I played basketball as a pastime; something I had to
take part in since my only other hobbies, playing video games and eating, slowly turned me into an obese ten year old child. Being out of shape,
having knee pains so excruciating I could barely manage to walk after just an hour of practice, and not having many fundamental skills such as the
ability to dribble and shoot, I did not think continuing to play throughout middle school, or even high school would be a possibility. My parents gave
me numerous opportunities to quit, and I heavily considered it the majority of the time. There was something inside of me, however, like a little voice
telling me "don't quit, you are not a quitter, you can't quit". I listened to that voice for who knows what reason, and my decision to continue playing led
to more struggle on the court. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

if by miracle, everything changed as I entered my junior year in high school. My knee pains had nearly disappeared, I shed most of the extra weight I
had, I even developed my shooting and dribbling to the point where my peers began to notice the drastic "transformation" I went through. That season,
I lead my team in points, rebounds, and blocks per game and made it to the semi–finals of the state championship tournament, the furthest the program

The Basketball Type Game Of Basketball Essay
From New York to London, to Paris, to Beijing. From Sarajevo to Dafar to Buenos Aires to L.A. and everywhere in between the game of Basketball is
played. It's played in the city parks of New York and the dusty plains of Africa, and the expensive designed courts of the NBA. The game is played
wherever someone can get a ball, and a mounted ring–like object. Unlike other sports that require multiple people and a lot of equipment, Basketball
only requires a Ball and the willingness to play. Through this speech you will learn about the history of basketball, rules of basketball, and how to play
the basic fundamentals of the game.
First off, the history of basketball. There's a myth that the first basketball type game was more than 500 years ago, by early Olmec people of
ancient Mexico .The Aztec, and Mayan cultures also had a game similar to basketball, only instead of a rubber ball they used the decapitated skulls
of their conquered foes. But the game we know today was first played on January 20th, 1892 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Canadian Doctor James
Naismith invented the game for the YMCA to play during the winter months. Naismith wrote simple rules for the game, and nailed up two peach
baskets for hoops, most of original Naismith rules are still in place today. The First game consisted of 18 players, or nine to a team which was
standard to the baseball teams of today. Since Naismith or the YMCA didn't have the money to design a new ball they used a soccer ball. The

Is Basketball A Better Basketball Player?
"Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen" this is a famous quote by the best basketball player ever. This
is a meaningful quote showing that you get what you work for and earn. If someone works hard and puts in the work needed you will be rewarded,
but others who just complain and about stuff and say they are getting any progress, they will not be harvesting the full reward. As for myself, I put in
the work and tried hard to become a better basketball player and it has paid off. Basketball has yet to fail me.
I have been to quite a few basketball camps throughout my career, one of best ones I have been to is called 'Snow Valley'. One coach at 'Snow Valley'

asked if he could watch him. Mr. Jordan agreed to the deal. The 'Snow Valley' coach has never seen someone work as hard as he watched Mr. Jordan

pushed you hard continuously and tried their best to make you the best you can be. This is the camp where I learned how hard I had to work to be
the kind of player I wanted to be. And I was completely fine with working hard, honestly I would rather work hard than give a half effort at something.
That is when I learned that the harder I work then, I will be

Basketball Monologue
When I first started playing basketball I only tried it out cause my dad said it would be fun for a kid my age to start playing basketball. I was about
11 when I first started playing and like everyone when they first try something new they terrible in it, so when i would go to my practices and my
games I would always say i'm a terrible player and shouldn't set foot on another court. My dad started noticing this in my games when i would seem
afraid to touch the ball and even dribble or shoot and i will never forget what he told me he said, "Sebastian If you don't want to play anymore just
tell me, but If you want to improve and give it another try I'll support you." With just a few little words my dad has told me throughout my whole life I

Basketball And Basketball : My Life Of Basketball
Taking a retrospective look at my life history, as a child I recall having all this energy and being very hands on. As a child, we did not have much to
play with. So, anything that I was able to lay my hands on was a big payoff. My mother bought us a basketball where she thought me how to shoot the
basketball. At the time, we did not have the money to pay for a basketball goal. My mother said that she had an idea. So, my mother said, "let's go to
the store when we get back you will play." We went to the store and we came back with a milk crate where we cut the bottom of it out and we hung
it on the telephone pole in front of our house. For me this was a challenge even though I had a lot of energy and was super motivated to play. It
was hard shooting the basketball in the milk crate. I believe shooting the basketball in the milk crate helped in many different ways. Thanks to
great idea my mother came up with, to this day basketball is my life. It a tradition that I pass on to my kids. Basketball was a tool for me as it was
a sport that my mother taught me to keep me out of trouble. Basketball taught me team work as well as communicating with others as well as
working with other. Basketball is an activity I consistently enjoy engaging in with my friends and family. I have three boys and one girl and they
all love basketball. Basketball has taken over our house. Our three boys play basketball for the school, so we as a family attend to all the games.
Basketball for me is not only a hobby its where I release stress. For example, playing basketball with other team mates gives me a chance to get rid of
all negative energy that has piled up throughout the week.
Nature and nurture shaping one's character. Nature and nurture affect one's character in countless ways. In my daily life, I've come across people on
the basketball court as well as interacted with some at work that have a different idea about how to approach issues in life. Taking in to consideration
nurture there are some parents that believe their children should grow up and be leaders and to demonstrate it in their lives. Features like this are
acquired when you grow up with and associate with people.

Why Basketball Helps You : Basketball
Why basketball helps you
Basketball is a well–known sport that is played almost everywhere: at school, home, parks, and other places. Basketball is the easiest sport to play,
and enjoy with friends. Basketball can help you reach your goals mentally by making you more aware of your surroundings and helping you be more
alert of school assignment, other work outside of school, and physically by staying in shape by going to the gym and working out or by just running.
Some explanations of how basketball helps you is: it gets your mind off things, it helps you stay in shape, and it's a great sport since you are spending
more time with your friends. Our life works like basketball, if we keep reaching for our goals and accomplish them you already scored a basket.
Playing basketball helps burn calories, build endurance, improve balance and coordination, develop concentration and self–discipline, and build up
muscles. When you are a playing a game of basketball you are running, jumping, and doing a lot of movements which can burn a lot of calories in
about an hour. Building endurance can help your heart, by moving around on the court to get the ball, which causes your heart rate to be up.
Improving balance and coordination is all about how to set your body when shooting a free throw and quickly eyeing the basket. Developing
concentration and self–discipline are both joined to one because in a basketball game, there are rules to follow which can affect you and the team.
That's why you

Is Basketball A State Basketball Game?
Have you ever been to a State basketball game? Here let me explain to you what state basketball is like. First of all you walk into the gym, it's huge!
You see hundreds of people, you've never see this many people in one room before. All you can smell is popcorn and hotdogs, which already excited
you because who doesn't love food? There is extremely loud "pump up" music playing, you can't even hear what the person next to you is saying. It is
by far one of the best experiences you will ever have. When I was in 5th grade I lived in Hayes Center, Ne. It was my first year living there. I had just
started doing common sports like volleyball and basketball. At that age I really loved volleyball I was even the student manager for the high school
girls. I went to every game because my dad was the principle, including football, volleyball, and basketball, girls and boys. That year the boys'
basketball team was on fire! They were winning every game by at least twenty points! They made it to district finals and this was one of the only
games they had that was close. Everyone went to this game to support the boys: the students did a blackout to show some pride. By fourth quarter
Hayes Center was up, they had been training for this all year. They did all they could and worked their hardest in this game, and it paid off they won
and man it to state! Since my dad was the principle and supervisor I got to stay at the hotel with the basketball team. It was the first day I couldn't wait to

When the Game Was Born
Dr. James Naismith was a canadian physical education instructor. He invented the game of basketball in 1891 while working at the YMCA. The
first game ever played was on December 21st, 1891. The equipment used in the first game was a far cry from what is used today. A peach basket was
used as the hoop, and the a soccer ball became the first basketball. The YMCA had a big role in spreading the game around the country. American
soldiers also introduced basketball to any country that they went to during World War I and World War II. Professional basketball did not become
popular until after the second World War. The first NBA game was played on November 1st, 1946. It was between the Toronto

"I was running" a famous line in the movie Forrest Gump mad by Tom Hanks, this is the mindset that the player on your team has to have to
accomplish one of the major aspects of muscular fitness which is muscular endurance. In the game of basketball, there are four quarters, many time
during the fourth, the importance of endurance training comes to light. A player that is in peak physical condition often run at the same speed and
have the same munverableity that they had in the first quarter. There are two types of endurance in the area of physical fitness Low–Intensity and
High–Intensity which both need in the sport of basketball. High–Intensity endurance much greater in the game of basketball due to the fact that it uses
high power movement repetitively when playing the game. While low endurance cardio is often overlooked when the final seconds of the game is on
the line, this attribute is often highlighted. An area such as the anaerobic threshold and lactate threshold have to both be increased while training in

Imagine there are less than ten seconds left in the game and you are down two points. You are in front of a large crowd. Many of the spectators are
people you know, adding to the pressure of the moment. Your mind cannot think straight as adrenaline is rushing through you. People are screaming
words which you cannot make out. You dribble up the ball, your thoughts are surging through your mind at the worst possible time. Not knowing what
to do, you stop dribbling well behind the three–point line. You heave up a deep shot, with two kids charging at you with their hands up, nearly
blocking the ball. However, none of that matters as you just nailed the game winning shot to win the championship game. The crowd erupts for you.

love the game, I am good at the game (which always helps you enjoy it more), and I have won two state championships in basketball. Having rarely
lost a basketball game over the last few years, I have enjoyed the game a lot more because it is never fun to lose. Currently, I am playing basketball

My Personal Experiences Of Basketball And Basketball
My history with sport started at a young age; by three years old, my father already had me swinging a baseball bat. Yet, for me personally, the
earliest memories I have of sports were watching my older brother play basketball on the hoop in our front yard. Before I knew it, I was out on the
basketball court at 5, playing in games with my father, brother and neighbors. At 6 when I first started kindergarten, my parents signed me for a winter
YMCA basketball league where I began to shine. Being one of the few kids on the team that could dribble the ball and actually take shots, I played
the point guard position and was constantly given the ball. Seeing my success in the basketball league, my parents wanted me to play little league
next, with the hope that it would be as successful as basketball. Evidently, my parent's intuition about my athletic ability was correct. In little league,
I was one of the few kids who could throw the ball across the diamond. Naturally, as I was one of the few kids that could field, I was relegated to
second base and occasionally shortstop. While I may have felt that I was one of the best hitters on the team at the time, reflection on my past reminds
me that I always had trouble with swinging the bat. Much to my parent's dismay, baseball was not the same as basketball for me; I was unable to
dominate without any resistance. Yet, not all hope was lost. As a pitcher, I showed great promise. Even though I was not the tallest kid or the strongest

Basketball has been a major reason in shaping me into who I am today. This sport has greatly affected my life in helping me develop skills and
fundamentals that apply in the real world. The dynamics in the game directly relates to what takes place in life. Looking back on my journey, I would
not trade it in for anything. From my time playing on the streets, to playing on the hardwood, there were many lessons that I still carry with me today.
Growing up as a kid I was really never the sporty type of guy. I was always outside on my bike shredding dirt hills. When I wasn't riding my bike, I
would be exploring near the creek and sometimes get wet due to the water splashing against the surface. If I wasn't doing either, I'd be hanging out with

I will never forget the day our team won the state championship, and I was the MVP. Our team was getting blown out by the rival team by 20 points
at the half. To make matters worse, our star point guard went down with a season ending knee injury. Once the coach had used our final timeout, he
had a talk with the team in hopes of rallying our squad back into the game. As my teammates and I were heading back on the court, coach stopped me
and gave me words of advice.
"Listen son, this is your moment," he said
"Yes sir." I replied.
"Go out there and be great. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take," he said as he gave me a nod to go out andplay.
The whistle blew and all I could think about was hoisting the shiny championship trophy. So what do I do? I went out there and played my
hardest. My blood was rushing all throughout my body. The tears falling out of my eye sockets. The sweat pouring down my neck like a waterfall.
I had brought the game back into reach. It was a back and forth battle and I had managed to bring the back within 1. With no timeouts left, we had to
run the length of the court. I received the inbound and managed to deliver the final dagger to win the game. All i could hear was the crowd chanting

Basketball : The Game Of Basketball
The game of basketball started in December 1891. Basketball was founded by a Canadian born instructor named James Naismith at the Young Men's
Christian Association training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The YMCA developed rules for the game which were later used in high schools,
colleges, and settlement houses. The game grew bigger and popular in a lot of areas. Particularly in urban areas, where games were sponsored by
schools, social clubs, churches, and companies. Colleges sponsored tournaments to attract players to their school. The best players around the world
would attend these tournaments and invitational meetings in hope to earn scholarships or enter semipro leagues around American cities. Not only did
men play the game of basketball but women, particularly in the south, received similar opportunities to play basketball for sponsored teams.
Throughout the 20 centaury, basketball was a primary sport in inner–city playgrounds and urban recreational communities. College basketball was the
main form of organized basketball beginning in the 1930s. The American basketball league began in the 1920s. As professional as the ABL was, it
could not compete with college basketball. However the American basketball league changed the college basketball world. One of the main places
basketball was played was at the Madison Square Garden. The first ABL elite program was the Boston Celtics. In the 1920s they won as much as 90
percent of their games. The game of basketball

Defense In Basketball
I'm going to talk about the difference between offence and defense in basketball. Let's start with the basics; defense would be when your team
doesn't have possession of the ball, and your job as a defender would be to not allow the opponent to score, but you have to do it without fouling, but
still adding as much pressure as possible. Now offense is when you do have control of the ball. Your goal as aplayer is to get as many points as possible
doing whatever it takes no matter what. When guarding an offensive player who is one pass away from the ball, you should be in denial. Denying
your man the ball, keeps him from scoring. Play the passing lane and stay between the player you're guarding and the ball. You can never lose your

Basketball And Basketball : The Invention Of Basketball
Basketball In the 1920's the World War 1 was occurring, and people needed activities to keep them on the positive side. "The invention of basketball
wasn't an accident. It was a development to meet a need." –James Naismith. Basketball was just the right sport. It was a recent invention in 1891, and
in the now it has become a college and professional sport. Many professionals didn't go to college and didn't even compete in high school. That
means that the men who went to play professional were not very experienced, so it was pretty rough. They were still the real pioneers of pro
basketball. They made sure that they kept the score pretty close, so that way the fans would come back to see a interesting game. The games are
largely disorganized, but it brought crowds of people to the cages or arenas. Basketball was a second tier sport, which meant that it would only be
watched if football and hockey weren't on. Many people don't see the game as an fun game to watch quite yet. Another reason for the low
attendance, was tickets were one to two dollars per game, so many people could not afford to attend a game. Do you know how to play? This is
what basketball looks like right now. There are six to nine players on each side of the court and their goal is to put the basketball inside the brown
bucket more times than their opponent. There is no shoulding, tripping, striking, and talking in any way. You heard that right, there is no talking
allowed between players, and they were only allowed to use signs with their hands. Throwing underhand, shot put, or throwing it with your back
to the basketball counted as a point. There was no running with the ball allowed in this sport, and instead he/she shall dribble with one or two
hands. Do you know what the "cages" are? It is a wired cage, that is played inside by the players. The goal of the cage is to protect the players, and
make the game faster and keep the ball in play. This may seem a little complicated for the first timers, but this invention may be the most unique game
around. Many people wondered if this game would ever be a real thing, but it turned out being a minor league hit in many arenas, gyms, and armories.
It gave a chance for people to play what

The Importance Of Basketball
I've always loved the game but just never really cared for it, if that makes sense. The game of basketball and other sports, such as: football, floor
hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and everything else was just a bunch of things that i'm great at doing so I took the time effort to put in daily to
trying to be the best at everything. I feel like without me really trying and practicing and working out all the time i just feel like it payed off in the end.
Because little did i know that when you play so many other a better basketball play sports it only makes you better in so many other different ways,
like football can make you a better basketball player, and playing baseball can make you a better hockey player. It's always the little things that
count and matter the most when you're not expecting it. I never knew that growing up with all the talent that i had can take me very far in life and
it took me too long to realize that. I'm not upset with myself but i do think back on the times were I trotted around when i should've been working
my hardest when nobody was around, and i just wish that time can go back. In life a lot of things happen that you can never go back into time and
fix it, but there is one thing that you can do, you can make up for it and work 10x harder no matter what your doing always want to compete and want to
be number 1 at everything that you do. It was hard to really understand what i could do with my talent, and how far I can take it. As a kid i

Baseball And Basketball : The Success Of Baseball And...
Baseball and basketball are two coveted sports in the United States. March Madness is a month long celebration of NCAA Division 1 Men's
Basketball. Every year, fans create brackets to, optimistically, win money and a championship. The Little League World Series promotes youths to
reach a peak of success at age twelve while the whole world watches. In discussing success, everyone has a similar definition. Success could be how
much money someone makes, how fulfilling their life is, or athletic greatness. In terms of Mickey Mantle and Michael Jordan, their successes were,
ultimately similar. Athletically gifted, both men reached the highest level of play and achieved Hall of Fame status. Every so often SportsCenter and
ESPN will run specials, and magazines will publish articles celebrating their careers. Although both men are in the category of elite, athletically gifted
professionals, their strategies for play ranged from constructive to destructive.
Distributive question: What are the commonalities between Michael Jordan and Mickey Mantle in how they approached their careers?
(1) As youths, athletes are exposed to different skill sets, therefore, a player sets goals to better their game. Jordan was cut from the varsity basketball
team his sophomore high school season. Immediately after the tryout, Jordan made a constructive goal to make the varsity team the following year, in
which he accomplished. Jordan continued to set goals throughout his career: "[Jordan] approached

Basketball : The History And History Of Basketball
We can all agree that basketball is almost becoming popular around the world. So many people play this sport but do people know how basketball
started and how it evolute throughout the years since basketball was borned? So like every other sports and creations, there has to be a inventor and
in basketball there was a man by the name of Dr. James Naismith. "Created in 1891 in a Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA gymnasium has grown into
a game played worldwide by more than 300 million people"(historybits.com). So this game has been out for a very long period of time with many
changing of the rules in basketball throughout the history. When it was first played in the late 1800s, there were different rules and even different
looking basketball. As for the rules, originally there would be 10 people on the court but it first started with 18 people on the court which after
couple of years it changed to only 10 people. Substitution was also different and the rule for this was at first no one can enter until the next game.
"The rule was changed in 1920 to allow a player to re–enter the game one time. In 1934, the rule was expanded to allow players to re–enter the game
twice, and, in 1945 the rule was finally changed to permit players to return to the game an unlimited number of times"(hooptactics.com). The first
basketball looked very alike a football but round. The backboards were made out of straight wood and the baskets were made out of peach baskets or
square boxes. There was only

Basketball Identity
What is an identity, an interest or a talent that defines me in an essential way? As a little kid who's only thought was to have fun, all I cared about at
first was playing video games and watching cartoons, but that wasn't my interest as it became boring to me. Needing something new in my life, one
day, my cousins came over to my house asking if they could watch something on the TV, I said "sure," so they turned on the TV and put on a
documentary. At first, I was disinterested and wanted to go back to my usual habits, but I stayed and watched, I realized thatthe documentary
contained the answer to my question and that answer was basketball as it became an identity that defined me in an essential way because it changed
how I felt, how I thought, and how I lived. Out of all the things in the world, basketball became my guidance, it spoke to me in a way where it wasn't
just an interest, but a window of discovering who I am, what I love, and what I want to become. In that window of time I would watch every basketball
game and practice my skills as a player. Watching NBA players give their hearts out to the game of basketball brought me joy as well as the confidence
and determination to play and improve my skills to be just like them. My favorite player was Kobe Bryant because he would play every game at the
highest level he could play at and he had a killer work ethic that a person would only dream of having. I would set an alarm at 10 a.m. to wake up and

Cultural Identity In Basketball, Basketball And Basketball

  • 1. Cultural Identity In Basketball, Basketball And Basketball What is cultural identity? How does one develop a cultural identity? I believe a person's cultural identity is determined by the people that surround you and the things that you do. So, what is my cultural identity? My own cultural identity is based around many of the experiences I have had and the people I've met. If you asked people what best describes me, they would probably say I'm a sports jock. My parents have had influence on all aspects of my life. My friends have had a huge impact on who I am.. The combination of these three things I cherish, has shaped me and my cultural identity. Sports have had significant effect on me as a person and my cultural identity. Iplay both basketball and baseball. Both sports have given me opportunity to grow as a player and a person. I feel like basketball represents me because to succeed in it, it takes hard–work, dedication, and a little bit of skill. I try to apply those three things in everything I do. Basketball has always kept me driven to accomplish my goals. It has always given me an escape from all the pressures of the world. Basketball has quickly become one of the main hobbies in my life. Most of my free time consists of playing basketball, talking about it, or playing a basketball video game. Not only has basketball influenced my interests, it has also impacted the way I act and treat others. When I first started basketball, I would argue with referees, trash talk the opposing players, and butt heads with my coach. Now, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Influence Of Basketball Barbara is an old lady with loose skin and is very wrinkly. She is also very friendly, loves to play, and watching Basketball. One day she was thinking that she needed to do more exercise. One day while Barbara was playing bingo with her friends she started thinking about her favorite basketball team the Lakers. She then exclaimed to her friends " I'm out, gonna go play some B–Ball today." Then dramatically walks out while a woman was screaming "BINGO!!!!!!!" Barbara heads to the arcade where she can help practice her shooting. After few minutes of continually missing she finally got the hang of things and was able to make most of her shots. She left to the park to play someone there. She sees some people playing that were white, tall, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She goes for the layup and makes it. It was winners ball so she got the ball again. She checkmates it and runs to the 3 point line and shoots. She makes it and starts doing her victory dance that kind of looked like the chicken dance. It was 4–0 now the guy was scared because Barbara was dribbling between the legs. She drives in and dunks it. After that the guy forfeited and congratulated Barbara. Her friends came out of the bushes and started screaming "Old people rule!!!!" The people on the basketball court started chanting with the elderly agreeing with them not even trying to argue. Someone captured the whole game on film and uploaded it on the internet. Weeks later they contacted Barbara and took her to a show to her ask how she's in such good shape. She answered "I just walk and play B–Ball." The audience starts clapping and the host of the show shows the film. Barbara returns home after the show and goes to sleep. In the morning when she went back she went to her bingo game then to the basketball court. She continued going as much as she could. Her quote was "Ball is life not

Activity: Basketball Brent Granario GCSE Physical Education: Coursework Chosen Activity: Basketball Analysis Section: Strength One – Fitness Component: Agility In my chosen activity of Basketball, I have identified agility as my main strength. Agility is the ability for a player to move and change direction quickly. As a point guard, I have to be changing direction all the time all around the court. This means I need to be able to run around the court to create space, or even to get into space myself. I go through different phases in a game where I need to change direction quickly in order to lose the defender. Having great agility allows me to support teammates that are in trouble, this could be from being trapped by defenders in a double team, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our ball movement as a team was outstanding, when creating space on the court, I found that there were more of my teammates wide open to take a shot which leads us to more opportunities to score. My extra speed and great level of agility helps to get to the basket a lot easier. Being a lot faster than the opposition was crucial to manoeuvre around the court without worrying about defenders tracking me, I was able to be wide open for a free jump shot. • 5. The Core Of Basketball The core of our body is more than just abdominals. The core also consists of the muscles around hips, back, and chest. In the game of basketball, developing a strong core is necessary to reduce risk of injury, perform basic functions of the sport, increase balance and stability, and stabilize spine and pelvis. The fundamentals of basketball include passing (overhead, chest, and bounce passing). Other fundamentals include shooting, dribbling, pivoting, screening, defense, and cutting. I was on a traveling basketball team in 5th–6th grade which was a transition from leaving rec sports to traveling with my friends. This is when competing against competitive teams from different towns started. In 6th grade, I was asked to play on a traveling volleyball team with a group of older girls. Similarities are abundant between the two. Both sports require team work. Also the main purpose of both is to put a ball into a netted goal. However, there are some very important key differences. Soccer is played on a field that is much larger and there is a goalie that constantly defends the goal. While basketball is played on a smaller hardwood court with fewer players active at once. Furthermore, soccer is low scoring and more strategic when compared to basketball, which has final scores in the hundreds. All in all, many similarities there are huge differences between ... • 8. Sexism In Basketball Even from the start of the game of basketball it was seen as a male sport. The creator of basketball Dr. James Naismith, a physical education instructor at the YMCA College in Springfield, Massachusetts, formed the sport in 1891 as a way to condition outdoor athletes during the winter months. Not until a year later did a gymnastics instructor Senda Berenson Abbott adapt Dr.James Naismith's basketball rules for women. Basketball is one of the biggest sports in America. It is also popular around the worlds. Men's basketball, in particular, is given much more preference in American society. Many would argue that the comparison of the two simply boils down to sexism in sports, where people downgrade the strength and athletic ability of women in our society according to typical gender roles. However, there may be more confounding factors that are generally overlooked. Men's college basketball teams are able to be transported on planes and dine on steak, while a women's team from the same college, travels in a van and eats fast food? • 9. Kinesics In Basketball Examining and Developing Conscious Kinesics in Basketball There is a substantial amount of qualities that go into becoming a complete basketball player. Perhaps the most important quality to possess, in order to be a great player, is the ability to understand and improve the use and recognition of kinesics. According to Dr. Gretchen N, Foley, author of NonverbalCommunication in Psychotherapy, about 65 percent of communication is nonverbal. This means most of peoples emotions are shown through their actions. These actions are classified by body language, eye contact, gestures, and facial expressions. Therefore, the game of basketball is full of nonverbal communication. Speaking from experience, kinesics is seen throughout pre–game, in–game, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As talked about before, kinesics is a skill that can be improved upon. In fact, an experiment was conducted by Natalie Sebanz, a graduate of Radboud University Nijmegen, showed that after one subject saw numerous pass fakes and actual passes they were able to determine when they were going to receive the ball or be duped. The study showed that people have different postural cues when faking or actually passing, similar to a poker players tell (Sebanz 1). Players work on dribbling, shooting, passing, among other actions without realizing the kinesics behind them. When players are working on crossovers, hesitations, spin moves, and behind the back dribbles, they are practicing deception. Kids growing up watching their favorite NBA players pull off some of these miraculous moves are not appreciating them for the deceit behind them, instead they are consumed by the appeal factor of the move. However, dribble moves are not the only way that defenders are deceived. Other ways to swindle an opponent are by changing speeds, ball fakes, and using or not using eye contact. Furthermore, coaches and players establish plays with gestures during the course of a basketball game so they can deceive the competition and communicate without using words. Not only the players and coaches, but the referees have their own gestures to inform the scorers table and crowd of a foul call. As the game progresses, these actions become more strenuous on the ... • 10. Evolution Of Basketball The Evolution of Basketball Imagine, that in 1896, the first ever professional basketball is being played on the third floor of Masonic Temple Hall in New Jersey, that was held in a banquet hall, which was enclosed with sharp and dangerous chicken wire that you could easily be cut with. The game of basketball, as you can tell, has developed a great margin over time. As far as the ball and net itself, to the rules and way the game is played, there were many different causes for changes that had positive effects, as well as some that may have had some negative effects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rule changes are enforced by the NBA ( National Basketball Association ) and are mainly made to improve the way the game is played, such as keeping it more fast paced, or to improve player safety and fairness. An example of this is the rule change for a jump ball after every made basket. The reason for this was that people wanted to keep the game fast paced, and this rule was slowing the game down considerably. It was slowing the game down because once your team scored, the game would be stopped, and you would have to set up at the middle of the court again to execute the jump ball. All in all, the slowness of the game would be less interesting to viewers than an upbeat fast paced game. And if the viewers and players lost interest in the game, the popularity and hype would slowly die down. This is why the NBA enforced the rule that when the a team scores, the opposite team has to inbound the ball from the baseline that the basket was just scored on, to make sure the game had no more unnecessary stoppage of plays (Evolution of the Game Basketball). Another example of this is the rule of amount of players allowed on each team on the court at once. When the game was originally created, There was no limit to the amount of players allowed on the court at once. Some competitive teams would have 50 players on the court at once! As you can assume, this was absolute chaos. The "respective" amount of players was 9 on each team are allowed on the court, but there was no specific "rule" enforcing this. It was more the less like good basketball edicate. Not only was this chaos, it was at the same time unfair. Since the teams did not have to have the same amount of players on the court, one team could be playing with 20 and the other with four. Teams would be blowing out opponent after opponent because frankly they did not care how many players they had. If they needed 100 players they would bring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Basketball : The Success Of High School Basketball There are many high school basketball phenoms that are scouted by pro teams even when they are in high school. A select few in the past have gone straight to the NBA out of high school and had a lot of success, while some players go to college all four years to develop their skills at the next level. However, there are athletes that will waste one year at the college level just so they could get to the NBA. Why would you waste one year of your life when you could have already been in the NBA a year earlier? Basketball players should either go to college all four years and enhance their skills and get a solid education. If not, skip college and go straight to the NBA, rather than wasting a year of your life, and possibly a classroom seat for a person who wanted to get an education. Kwame Brown was consistently rated as the "best high school player" in his class, which also included high school standouts Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. He was the high school player of the year as a senior in Georgia. Brown finished his high school career at the historic Glynn Academy as the school's all–time leading rebounder and shot–blocker , and also finished second all–time as a scorer and he was named to the 2001 McDonald's All–American Team. Everyone just assumed that Brown was going to be the next "big thing" coming out of high school. • 14. Physics of Basketball Physics takes part in our everyday lives without us even recognizing it. In simple every day functions like when we walk, how our vehicles function properly, and even how we play sports. We go on each day with no recognition of physics until it is pointed out to us. The concept of physics is the study of fundamental structures and interactions in the physical universe. We learn physics to get a better understanding of the universe and the objects in it (Ostdiek). Now, that I have given you a brief description of what physics is and why we learn it, I am going to tell you how physics applies to shooting a basketball. Shooting a basketball is a simple concept. All you do is align your feet towards the goal, put the ball in place, and then shoot; easy right? Not exactly, just because you do these steps does not mean you will get a perfect shot every time and make the basket. First, were going to start with setting the shot up with a dribble, most players can shoot off of the dribble. When dribbling a basketball a shooter releases the ball towards the floor with a force that makes the ball come back into their palm. When the force of the ball goes toward the floor with different speeds it causes the ball to have a different velocity which can make the ball come back into the dribblers hand much quicker. We can also look at dribbling through energy. When a shooter is holding the basketball it has potential energy. Upon the balls release to the floor, the potential energy is ... I love basketball because it benefits me physically, mentally, and socially. From practice to the game itself, to the traveling time, each aspect of being involved on a team is an opportunity to improve and enhance my life. The many benefits that it provides are far–reaching and I believe that they not only affect my present life but will impact my future, as well. Something that basketball has given me is a variety of physical benefits. One of these benefits is building endurance. Sometimes a basketball game can seem like running a marathon, sprinting up and down the court so many times. This requires a lot of endurance if I don't want to be left behind, panting like a dog on the other end of the court. In order to be able to do this, there is much conditioning work done in practice. In addition to being able to help with endurance, this same type of training also helps me to be quick. Speed is just as necessary as endurance in basketball. The natural consequences of the activities we do in order to achieve speed and endurance have other benefits, as well. Inequality In Basketball Gender Inequality in Basketball Argumentative Essay In 1871, Dr. James Naismith invented basketball as an activity for his male students at a YMCA school in Massachusetts. A year later, Senda Berenson who is a physical education teacher organized the first women basketball team at Smith College. The rules of the sport for men were more complex than those of the women. It was adapted to women and later recognized as netball. The first time that female athletes were given a chance to play a full court basketball game was in the year 1971 because they were considered vigorous enough to perform the activity. A year after the first full court women's basketball game, President Nixon signed Title IX of Educational Amendment (US Sports Academy, 2008). For this reason critics believe that men's basketball is more exciting to watch because of the popular players, the live audience and also the high quality of advertising and screening. I played basketball as a pastime; something I had to take part in since my only other hobbies, playing video games and eating, slowly turned me into an obese ten year old child. Being out of shape, having knee pains so excruciating I could barely manage to walk after just an hour of practice, and not having many fundamental skills such as the ability to dribble and shoot, I did not think continuing to play throughout middle school, or even high school would be a possibility. My parents gave me numerous opportunities to quit, and I heavily considered it the majority of the time. My knee pains had nearly disappeared, I shed most of the extra weight I had, I even developed my shooting and dribbling to the point where my peers began to notice the drastic "transformation" I went through. • 23. Is Basketball A Better Basketball Player? "Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen" this is a famous quote by the best basketball player ever. This is a meaningful quote showing that you get what you work for and earn. If someone works hard and puts in the work needed you will be rewarded, but others who just complain and about stuff and say they are getting any progress, they will not be harvesting the full reward. As for myself, I put in the work and tried hard to become a better basketball player and it has paid off. Basketball has yet to fail me. I have been to quite a few basketball camps throughout my career, one of best ones I have been to is called 'Snow Valley'. One coach at 'Snow Valley' once told us a story when Michael Jordan asked if he could use a in the gym weight room. The gym owner and coach agreed that it would be okay but asked if he could watch him. Mr. Jordan agreed to the deal. The 'Snow Valley' coach has never seen someone work as hard as he watched Mr. Jordan work for forty–five minutes. The camp lasts a week and there are college coaches and players there to make you better. At this camp the coaches pushed you hard continuously and tried their best to make you the best you can be. This is the camp where I learned how hard I had to work to be the kind of player I wanted to be. And I was completely fine with working hard, honestly I would rather work hard than give a half effort at something. That is when I learned that the harder I work then, I will be ... As a child, we did not have much to play with. So, anything that I was able to lay my hands on was a big payoff. My mother bought us a basketball where she thought me how to shoot the basketball. At the time, we did not have the money to pay for a basketball goal. My mother said that she had an idea. So, my mother said, "let's go to the store when we get back you will play." We went to the store and we came back with a milk crate where we cut the bottom of it out and we hung it on the telephone pole in front of our house. For me this was a challenge even though I had a lot of energy and was super motivated to play. It was hard shooting the basketball in the milk crate. I believe shooting the basketball in the milk crate helped in many different ways. Thanks to great idea my mother came up with, to this day basketball is my life. It a tradition that I pass on to my kids. Basketball was a tool for me as it was a sport that my mother taught me to keep me out of trouble. Basketball taught me team work as well as communicating with others as well as working with other. Basketball is an activity I consistently enjoy engaging in with my friends and family. • 31. My Personal Experiences Of Basketball And Basketball My history with sport started at a young age; by three years old, my father already had me swinging a baseball bat. Yet, for me personally, the earliest memories I have of sports were watching my older brother play basketball on the hoop in our front yard. Before I knew it, I was out on the basketball court at 5, playing in games with my father, brother and neighbors. At 6 when I first started kindergarten, my parents signed me for a winter YMCA basketball league where I began to shine. Being one of the few kids on the team that could dribble the ball and actually take shots, I played the point guard position and was constantly given the ball. Seeing my success in the basketball league, my parents wanted me to play little league next, with the hope that it would be as successful as basketball. Evidently, my parent's intuition about my athletic ability was correct. In little league, I was one of the few kids who could throw the ball across the diamond. Naturally, as I was one of the few kids that could field, I was relegated to second base and occasionally shortstop. While I may have felt that I was one of the best hitters on the team at the time, reflection on my past reminds me that I always had trouble with swinging the bat. Much to my parent's dismay, baseball was not the same as basketball for me; I was unable to dominate without any resistance. Yet, not all hope was lost. As a pitcher, I showed great promise. Now offense is when you do have control of the ball. Your goal as aplayer is to get as many points as possible doing whatever it takes no matter what. • 36. Basketball And Basketball : The Invention Of Basketball Basketball In the 1920's the World War 1 was occurring, and people needed activities to keep them on the positive side. "The invention of basketball wasn't an accident. It was a development to meet a need." –James Naismith. Basketball was just the right sport. It was a recent invention in 1891, and in the now it has become a college and professional sport. Many professionals didn't go to college and didn't even compete in high school. That means that the men who went to play professional were not very experienced, so it was pretty rough. They were still the real pioneers of pro basketball. They made sure that they kept the score pretty close, so that way the fans would come back to see a interesting game. The games are largely disorganized, but it brought crowds of people to the cages or arenas. Basketball was a second tier sport, which meant that it would only be watched if football and hockey weren't on. Many people don't see the game as an fun game to watch quite yet. Another reason for the low attendance, was tickets were one to two dollars per game, so many people could not afford to attend a game. Do you know how to play? This is what basketball looks like right now. There are six to nine players on each side of the court and their goal is to put the basketball inside the brown bucket more times than their opponent. There is no shoulding, tripping, striking, and talking in any way. You heard that right, there is no talking allowed between players, and they were only allowed to use signs with their hands. Throwing underhand, shot put, or throwing it with your back to the basketball counted as a point. There was no running with the ball allowed in this sport, and instead he/she shall dribble with one or two hands. Do you know what the "cages" are? It is a wired cage, that is played inside by the players. The goal of the cage is to protect the players, and make the game faster and keep the ball in play. This may seem a little complicated for the first timers, but this invention may be the most unique game around. Many people wondered if this game would ever be a real thing, but it turned out being a minor league hit in many arenas, gyms, and armories. It gave a chance for people to play what ... Needing something new in my life, one day, my cousins came over to my house asking if they could watch something on the TV, I said "sure," so they turned on the TV and put on a documentary.
