Fourth Crusade Significance
A Crusade was used by the Europeans to reclaim the Holy Lands that were under the Muslims. They
were considered Holy Wars that were brought on by the Popes. Talking about how the significance
of the first three crusades led to the fall of Constantinople in the fourth crusade. We will have
Jonathan Phillips making a guest appearance talking about his research in his book, The Fourth
Crusade and the Sack of Constantinople.
Story Line Part 1: Start off the documentary with introducing the crusades. For example the first
crusade was mentioned by Pope Urban II in 1095. The first crusade was not actually launched until
1096. We would go into more details and explain why the Pope called for the crusade. We can
explain how we summoned all Christians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nur al–Din's forces had taken over Cairo which caused the Crusaders to flee. After the death of Nur

Arab-Israeli Conflict Essay
During the time of the Mandatory Palestine, the Balfour Declaration signed in 1917, stated that the
government of Great Britain supported the establishment of a "Jewish national home" in Palestine.
This exacerbated tensions between the Arabs living in Mandate Palestine and the Jews who
emigrated there during the Ottoman period. Signed in January 1919, the Faisal–Weizmann
Agreement promoted Arab–Jewish cooperation on the development of a Jewish national homeland
in Palestine and an Arab nation in a large part of the Middle East, though this event had little to no
effect on the conflict.
In 1920, the San Remo conference largely endorsed the 1916 Anglo–French Sykes–Picot
Agreement, allocating to Britain the area of present day Jordan, the ... Show more content on

The British–appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al–Husseini, led opposition to the idea
of turning part of Palestine into a Jewish state.
In search for help in expelling British forces from Palestine, thus removing the enforcer of the
Zionist enterprise, the Grand Mufti sought alliance with the Axis Powers. The response of the
British government was to banish the Mufti (where he spent much of World War II in Germany and
helped form a Muslim SS division in the Balkans), curb Jewish immigration, and reinforce its police
force. The Jewish leadership (Yishuv) "adopted a policy of restraint (havlaga) and static defense in
response to Arab attacks" and criticized the British for "what they regarded as Britain's retreat from
the Balfour Declaration and its conciliation of Arab violence." It was at this time that critics of this
policy broke away from the Hagana (the self–defense organization of the Yishuv) and created the
more right–wing militant Irgun, which would later be led by Menachem Begin in 1943. For a list of

Orientalism is a form of art that was most famous during the nineteenth–century. This type of art
represents nineteenth–century artists' stereotypical assumptions describing Middle East culture.
According to "Orientalism in Nineteenth–Century Art" online article by Jennifer Meagher, "Some of
the first nineteenth–century Orientalist paintings were intended as propaganda in support of French
imperialism, depicting the East as a place of backwardness, lawlessness, or barbarism enlightened
and tamed by French rule." Meagher claims that French leaders wanted to convey and to a certain
extend romanticize their actions when colonizing many Middle Eastern regions. ... Show more

According to the online article "What is Orientalism" by unknown author, Orientalism is "a way of
seeing that imagines, emphasizes, exaggerated and distorts differences of Arab (Middle East)
peoples and cultures as compared to that of Europe and the U.S. It often involves seeing Arab
(Middle East) culture as exotic, backward, uncivilized, and at times dangerous." One example of
artwork that portrays the exotic view of the Middle East culture is The Turkish Bath (1863) by Jean–
Auguste–Dominique Ingres. Although Ingres never visited the East, he used his imagination to
create this painting. In his canvas painting, we see various naked women at a harem enjoying their
bath time. The focal point is a group of six women towards the left side of the painting. Most of the
women are wearing colorful, exotic turbans, and all of them are wearing exotic, luxurious jewelry.
Some of the women are laying down on colorful, vintage designed mats. The women within this
Oriental–styled interior are enjoying different types of activities such as talking to each other,
relaxing, bathing and playing musical instruments. Around the harem are visible symbolic Middle

Kingdom Of Heaven Research Paper
The Unrevealed Truth
In this essay I will be summarizing the myths to the truths, of the movie Kingdom of Heaven to the
real life history facts. Therefore Hollywood changed the facts to myths. I will be focusing on the
longbow creation, relationships, and killing Arabs. In the movie Kingdom of Heaven, the longbow
was used in the time of the movie. Unfortunately the longbow was really invented around 1180
C.E.. Created by the Celts in Wales. Which the longbow was not really used by the English military
until the 1300s. A longbow is a an incredibly strong piece of wood roughly 6 feet tall and 5/8 inch
wide. The longbow started becoming a great, well known weapon. The Hundred Years War was
where the longbow really showed its strength. In some of the war's most decisive battles the
longbow was the weapon that turned the tides. One memorable example: The Battle of Crecy War.
Relationships in the movie Kingdom of Heaven was not one hundred percent accurate. There is
actually no given proof or records of any romance between Sibylla, (Balian alleged wife in the
movie) and Balian. But really, Sibylla and Baldwin, Balian brother, had love interest between each
other. Sibylla was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The End Of The Palestinian Refugee Crisis
The Arab argument is that the Jews purposefully expelled the native Palestinians from Palestine to
make room for a Jewish state. They claim that the Palestinian Arab population was violently
removed from their homes in Palestine by the Israeli army and forced to flee to neighboring Arab
countries. However, historical fact points in the other direction. The start of the Palestinian refugee
crisis was rooted in the divisions within the Arab population and its leadership. In Palestine, there
were several dozen elite families, the 'Ayan, who controlled areas of Palestine. These families ruled
on a strictly local scale and did not communicate with each other, creating what Benny Morris
described as "a highly regional, oligarchic structure." The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This emotional detachment from the land was a major factor in the ease in which the Palestinians
fled their homes for neighboring countries. This dysfunctional society and its pronounced lack of
leadership prompted many Arabs to flee right after the Partition Plan was adopted by the United
nations, before the war. In 1947, Arab morale was low in Palestine. There was a constant fear of
Jewish reprisals for Arab terrorist attacks and the Palestinians did not have faith in their leaders
ability and even willingness to protect them. The Arabs feared being caught in the war and they
feared the prospect of living under Jewish rule. Wealthy Arab families were the in the vanguard of
the Arab flight with Haganah reports of groups of fleeing Arabs on November 30, 1947, the day
immediately following the ratification of the Partition Plan. A few days later, Arabs in Jerusalem,
Jaffa, Tel Aviv and other towns and villages were evacuating their homes. On December 9, 1947, the
Haganah intelligence service reported that "wealthy families were leaving the [coastal] cities –
heading inland. Rich people are emigrating to Syria, Lebanon, and even Cyprus." The number of
Arabs fleeing swelled so rapidly that on January 11, 1948, Elias Sasson, who was the director of the
Arab Division of the Jewish Agency's Political Department, wrote to King Abdullah of Transjordan:
"There is fear and terror everywhere. The flight is

The Debate On Gay Marriage
I. Introduction to Moral Dispute: Gay Marriage Contemporary moral disputes are constantly
ongoing around the world and in the United States. For hundreds of years marriage has been defined
as the legally or formally recognized union of a man and a woman as partners in a relationship. Up
until relatively recently the debate on gay marriage has not been a popular topic. Gay marriage has
been illegal in the US and most countries around the world up until the early 2000s.[1] The debate
on gay marriage has grown with more and more people publicly speaking and giving their opinions
on it, especially in the Unites States.
II. Opposing Views Gay marriage has been largely opposed in the US for years now for several
different reasons that mostly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[3] The strong support of this argument by religious figures, such as the Pope, makes this a strong
argument for the opposing side. However, in more recent years Pope Francis has made a slightly less
opposing statement, when he said "Who am I to judge a gay person?" [4] Showing how times have
certainly changed in regards to view on homosexual people. American historian Harry Jaffa agreed
with this idea that being gay is not natural, he then argues that if people think that this is natural than
many other 'bad' things are also natural. Jaffa believes, "if sodomy is not unnatural, nothing is
unnatural. And if nothing is unnatural, then nothing – including slavery and genocide – is unjust".
[5]Jaffa argues that homosexuality is not natural because the only natural reason for relationships,
according to the bible, is to have children. So, these arguments that homosexuality is unnatural and
deviant (once again based off of the bible and religion) couple with the argument that the purpose
for marriage, as defined by religion and the bible, is to reproduce, and since two men or two women
cannot reproduce they should not be able to wed. An obvious continuation to this argument is the
idea that by legalizing gay marriage it is giving the approval of homosexual

Two men stepped onto a platform in front of hundreds of people; prepared for a battle of dialect,
rhetoric and moral justification. The two adversaries differed in partisanship, political success,
height, methods of Government action, and most of all morality of what is right. Although the
candidates presented polar opposites visions for America, they were similar in their dynamic display
of debating. Both men possessed eloquence in their speeches and disposition. The debates consisted
of seven encounters throughout Illinois. After one–hundred and fifty years, the historical
significance of the debates continues to provoke further debate amongst modern scholars to this day,

Stephen Douglas entered politics as a strong Jacksonian Nationalist that supported the Union.
Douglas joined the Democratic Party and quickly elevated his political position. One of his
achievements occurred when he assisted Henry Clay in passing the Missouri Compromise of 1850.
After four years and continuous rise in political standing, Douglas devised the Kansas–Nebraska
Bill. The Bill opened further territory in the West for expansion. Able to benefit from expanding
railroad transportation, he devised the Bill in a way that promoted Popular Sovereignty. He argued
that slavery should be decided by local territory or state, and congress did not possess the right to
mandate what is right for individual states. Within the Kansas–Nebraska Bill, his Popular
Sovereignty allowed the new territories that lay

What Of This Goldfish Would You Wish
Many different works of literature show us the best and worst parts of all of us, not as individuals
but as a collective "people". Many of these show the relationships we have with each other, and how
they define us. This is evident in the short story "What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?" written
by Etgar Keret, the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, and the poem "Without Title" by
Diane Glancy. All of the works express what our relationships with other people could become.
"What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish" is a short story by Israeli writer, Etgar Keret. This story

more options of sequences for the next installment. Apparently, Reeves wanted to concentrate on the
emotional state of Ceasar's character, particularly on the emotional parting scene of him and

A Comparison Of Saladin And Richard The Lionheart
Why is Saladin and Richard the Lionheart Still remembered after thousands of years?
Saladin and Richard the Lionheart have fought in many ferocious and important battles. Winning
those battles needed quick thinking and cunning battle strategies. Both leaders were well respected
by their men, the trust they had in them led to many great victories. But why are they still
remembered? Many have asked the same question but it's down to one clear factor. When every
muslim leader was reluctant to reconquer Jerusalem Saladin was the only person who stepped up.
Richard's Discipline and his cunning tactics is why he is still remembered till this day. Both leaders
had an enormous and important effect on the present time.
Richard The Lionheart was born on September 8, 1157 at Beaumont Palace, Oxford. He gained his
infamous nickname "Richard the Lionheart" through his experience of leading rebels in Poitou in
1170s against his father, Henry II. During the third crusades he won in the battles of Cyprus, Acre
and Arusf against Saladin. Richard the lionheart was famous for his fighting ability and fought in
many key battles during the Crusades. The battle of Arsuf for example is where he displayed his
brilliant war tactics and the brutal force of his army. After executing the saracens of Acre the
crusader army led by Richard travel south to capture the logistically vital port of Jaffa. By capturing
Jaffa it would give the crusaders an intended launching pad to reclaim Jerusalem. Saladin

As stated earlier the source is written by the PLO and is part of a propaganda leaflet, it is a biased
account from one of the fighting sides; it attempts to discredit the Israelis and so cultivate support
for the Palestinians.
The author was probably not an eyewitness as the source is written in 1984, which is over 30yrs
after the event. Often, secondary sources written after the event can be useful and reliable as they
reflect a wider picture and writers have access to a wider range of sources. Moreover the source was
written by an official spokesman for the PLO, who would have access to a lot of information. Some
of the information in the source can be corroborated through cross reverence to other souces.
However, in this case I think, because of the writer's obvious views, the lapse in time will have
given rise to a myth of error in account: indeed some of the language noted above is very myth–like.
There may also be a question that they were allowed to speak freely; although it was written by the
PLO in Palestine, Israel still had a lot of control over the Palestinian territories.
I think this source is aimed at Arabs and other countries, apart from Israel, to both enrol freedom
fighters and to create hatred of Israel.

King Richard II, 1192: The Battle Of Jaffa
During the third crusade, 1192, when the third crusade was at a temporary halt, a big event
happened in which king Richard I landed in Jaffa . After a big success, king Richard I of England or
also known as the Lionheart lead a Christian army to conquer Jerusalem but were not able to. At this
time, it seemed like the third crusade was close to its ending. King Richard and his army later
arrived in Jaffa, they had to spend lots of time preparing to get there, because it served as the main
entrance to Jerusalem, which king Richard the first and his army wanted to enter so that they could
take over the holy city. They wanted to do this so that they could reclaim the holy land and make all
of the Jews and Muslims become Christian. In the end it turned out to be Lionheart biggest victory.
During the time where Richard and his Christian army arrived at Jaffa, the Jews were being badly
invaded and treated horribly by the Christians. Richard arrived with his very very big army through
Jaffa and into Jerusalem where the Jews (and very few Muslims) had an entire city built out and an
entire economy built as well. Jerusalem had not been as badly affected until the third crusades, when
their entire city was invaded and being hardly fought for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Phillip and Richard's relationship was damaged by the crusade. On his return back to France, King
Philip wanted to use Richard's absence at the crusade, to take back his land in France which was
under English rule but he had sworn an oath halting him from doing so. He tried to break the oath by
going to the Church and providing false documents that King Richard had a secret meeting with
Saladin without the Church's permission. The Church did not believe him and refused to release him
from his oath. This led to King Philip attacking Richard's territories once Richard returned from the
crusade. It led to a seven year war till Richard died in 1199. Richard's brother, John, became the new
king. The Anglo–French war of 1202–14 was another effect of the crusade as it led to more fighting
in the Normandy area and John, King of England fought King Philip II of France for control. The
tension was created due to the not so great relationship between King Richard and King Philip
during the Third Crusade and also the tension between the Church and France. King Philip's victory

Greed In Macbeth
In William shakespeare's play, Macbeth, there is a constant struggle for power that is displayed by
Macbeth. The play demonstrates one of human's strongest nature which seems to be the desire for
power. This play is entirely based on Macbeth's greed for power. As Macbeth gained more power,
his behavior shifts from being a loyal and noble warrior to a power hungry man. He is a prime
example of a character that is struggling to free himself from powers of others or seeks to gain
power over others. Throughout the play, Shakespeare shows how the desire for absolute power can
cause an individual to do evil deeds that lead to their own demise. In the beginning of the play,
Macbeth is depicted as a noble warrior; however, his greed ... Show more content on

They invited the King to their house and Macbeth stabbed him to death that night and framed the
servants, who he then also killed to make sure his evil deeds were kept a secret. The witches'
prophecy became true after Macbeth was crowned king and this caused him to desire for more, but
also paranoid that someone would come and take it away from him. Macbeth's transition from being
good to evil is evident when he was consumed by his lust for more power. He became more
confident after the successful murder of King Duncan and in order for him to stay in power, he must
kill anyone that tried to take his crown and this eventually led to his downfall. Macbeth was so
paranoid about losing his power that he went after Banquo and killed him because he was afraid of
Banquo's son, Fleance, taking his throne. The first instance where Macbeth showed signs of him
going insane was when he saw a vision of Banquo's ghost at the party with the Lords. Macbeth's
hallucinations showed how his guilt was finally catching up to him. He was afraid of Banquo's ghost
because his ghost was the evidence of guilt and fear that Macbeth could lose his crown. He was so
blinded by his lust for power that he did not realize that "the punishment begins almost immediately

Summary Of 'The Little Bird Flew'
And The Little Bird Flew
Winter 1942– Leiser was cold, freezing in fact, as he arose from his bunk bed, a bed overflowing
with other people, some dead and some merely asleep. He sat up among the sea of bodies, forgetting
where he was or what happened, before the memories all came flashing back.
September 1939– Word had just gotten to the Jaffa family's home city of Kovel that the Germans
had begun invading Poland, and Leiser's father, Josef, was on edge. Rumors had spread that the
Nazis intended to take the Jewish citizens of Poland as POWs, and that they had already done so
with a few towns. Fagol, Leiser's mother, thought her husband was silly to believe such rumors.
They began to argue over whether or not to flee the country, and eventually Fagol won out, keeping
the family at home in Kovel. Fagol was more worried about another bombing taking place, and
believed these rumors were just foolishness driven by the surprise of the attacks. To Leiser, the war
seemed distant and his parents bickering unimportant. He hadn't seen any Nazi soldiers, so why
would this have anything to do with them? He continued on with his everyday life, mostly
consisting of his schoolwork, as he was only 14.
Leiser had never been worried whenever his parents argued. His parents had always been very close,
and Josef always loved to call Fagol his "little bird" because she was a beautiful woman, and her
name translates to bird in Yiddish. In fact, they never stayed mad at each other for more than what
seemed like ten minutes. So Leiser was unfazed by their arguments, and thought even less of the
war. However, this carelessness with which they viewed the attacks would come back to hurt them,
as it did so many others during WWII.
1940– Leiser and his family were living in an endless fear. About a year earlier Germany had
invaded taken control over much of Poland, and it seemed the rumors were true. All Jews were
required to patch a star of David onto their clothing and register themselves as Jewish, and they with
the star they stood out in a crowd. Nazi soldiers patrolled Kovel almost every day leaving the town
on edge. For many citizens, the biggest threat was of another bombing. For Leiser and his family, a

protected due to the loss of many soldiers. Due to this another negative effect was that the Egyptians

Defending The Byzantine Empire Essay
Byzantine Emperor Alexius I Comnenus has asked Pope Urban II for assistance in defending the
Byzantine Empire. The Pope has called together the Council of Clermont in France. He is asking for
a military expedition to retake the Holy Lands!
Peter the Hermit, a French Monk, pulled together a small, disorganized army of peasants and
soldiers with the use of his sermons. While Peter was in Constantinople, his army was defeated in
Anatolia by Turkish soldiers. This will be known as the People's Crusade.

Saladin easily recaptured Jerusalem from the Christian armies. Another call went out across Europe
for another Crusade. Emperor Frederick Barbarossa of Germany, King Phillip II of France, and King
Richard I of England stepped forward.
After much fighting, Richard the Lionheart and Saladin have created a peace treaty. According to
this treaty, The Muslim Empire may keep control of Jerusalem but Christian pilgrims had the right
to visit the city. The Crusaders also keep control of their lands north of Jaffa.
After Pope Innocent III called for a new Crusade in 1198, Crusaders led largely by French knights
marched for the Holy Land in 1202 only to be distracted by Venetian lords. These Lords convinced
the Crusaders to attack Constantinople, a Christian city! The Crusaders only managed to take
Constantinople and further weaken the Byzantine Empire.
The final stronghold of Christendom in the Holy Land, Acre, had fallen to the Mamluk Empire after
the 5th, 6th, and 7th Crusades. The only accomplishment during these three was the recapturing of
Jerusalem in after the 6th Crusade but it was later recaptured due to civil war. It seems the Holy

3rd Crusades Dbq
The 3rd Crusade, also known as the King's Crusade, began in the year of 1189 and ended in 1192.
This crusade is considered as one of the most successful crusades. The aim of the 3rd Crusade was
to recapture Jerusalem, commonly regarded as the Holy Land, from the Muslims. Saladin, the ruler
of the Muslims, was the sole enemy in this military campaign.
The Crusade originally began due to a religious passion by both King Henry II of England and King
Philip II of France. They agreed to end their conflicts with each other in order to lead a new crusade.
However, in 1189, Henry died, leaving the role of Leader of the Crusades to his successor, King
Richard I of England. King Richard I of England was also known as Richard the Lion Heart, due to

He did this primarily by imposing a tax upon all the classes, known as the Saladin tithe. He would
also sell the right to official positions, land, and other privileges. Barbarossa was the first to set out
for the Holy Land, leaving in May 1189, with an army of over 20 000. While crossing the Saleph
River on June 10, 1190, Barbarossa drowned in the waters. After his death, most of his army
returned to Germany. On July 4, 1190, Richard and Philip met and set out for the Holy Land. In May
of 1191, Philip of France arrived at the city of Acre. Richard arrived soon after and began to
supervise the construction of weapons to assault the city. The city was captured on July 12, 1191.
Due to disagreement over the ownership of the newly conquered city, Philip, who was in poor
health, left with his army in August, leaving all but 10 000 soldiers behind. Soon after taking control
of Acre, Richard took Jaffa, which was necessary to do before attempting an attack on Jerusalem. In
November of 1191, the Crusaders advanced towards Jerusalem. At this point, Muslim morale in
Jerusalem was so low, that an attack by the Crusaders would

3rd Crusades Research Paper
The Third Crusade was one of many medieval crusades to besiege the Holy Land in the 12th
century. The purpose of the Third Crusade, like all the previous crusades, was to reconquer the Holy
Land, an area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea that included Jerusalem, which
was considered holy by both Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Jerusalem was considered holy and
important to Christians because it was the home of Jesus' ministry. The Third Crusade, led by King
Philip II, Richard I, and German Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, sought to recapture the Holy Land
and Jerusalem from Saladin's Muslim forces and make up for the losses suffered in the Second
Crusade. But, while all these rulers had an impact on the Third Crusades somewhat success, Richard
I (Richard the Lionheart) contributed and impacted the Crusade the most with his exceptional

Before he arrived, Christian forces were in trouble with very little supplies and reinforcements, but
when Richard I and King Phillip arrived, they brought relief to the Christian forces. As soon as
Richard arrived, "he assumed command of the siege works and within days, the Accursed Tower and
the nearby walls were severely damaged," giving the Crusaders an opening into the city but the gap
was still small enough that it would be a blood bath for Crusaders if they stormed through ().
Anticipating this, Richard "offered anyone two gold coins who would carry off a stone from the
damaged wall," then on July 11, Richard's plan succeeded and a massive gap had been opened
(Asbridge 40). Furthermore, the "definitive breach came at the section of the northern defenses
targeted by Richard I," which Richard had focused on with the bribery and siege equipment. Due to
Richard's military skill and leadership he was able to quickly bring the downfall of Acre and win

Lev Shestov's 'Creation From The Void' By Lev Chekhov
In his essay "Creation from the Void", existentialist philosopher Lev Shestov claimed that with
regards to lofty concepts such as love, art, and inspiration, "Chekhov has only to touch them and
they instantly wither and die." While his words may seem a bit radical, they do bear a certain truth.
Even in his early works, Chekhov was at work deconstructing widely held principles and ideologies.
In "Misery", Chekhov does this through his depiction of Iona Potapov, a lonely cab driver whose
son has recently passed away. The story seems set–up to explore ideas relating to death, family, and
society, but trying to find a clear theme hidden in Iona's suffering proves to be a difficult task.
Chekhov tends to raise more questions than he answers. However, this doesn't mean that "Misery" is
lacking in depth. Chekhov just focuses on particular details that capture the complexity and raw
realities of his subject, trusting the reader to find the meaning. In "Misery", one such detail is found
in Iona's name itself, which he shares with a famous Old Testament prophet (referred to as "Jonah"
for distinction). Chekhov's allusion to Jonah introduces a hint of Christian thought into "Misery"
while avoiding its themes, providing him with a platform to deconstruct prominent Christian views
in Russian society and in the works of his literary peers. Chekhov's use of the Jonah allusion is
subtle and cautious. As Julie Sherbinin notes, "Christian legends and iconography do not function in

Social Injustice Was Rampant During Amos 's Time
Social injustice was rampant during Amos's time. Not only within Israel/Judah, but also in the
foreign kingdoms around them. We are first introduced to the sins of Israel's neighbors in Amos
chapters 1 and 2, which the Lord has found unfavorable which include; crushing Gilead in a cruel
manner ( Amos,1:3 New International Version), selling communities into slavery (Amos 1:6, 1:9),
murdering their brothers, killing women and their babies (Amos 1:11, 1:13), and burning the bones
of others (Amos 2:1). Then we are introduced to the sins of Israel and Judah which include;
forgetting the law (Amos 2:4), worshipping other gods (Amos 2:4), selling people into slavery
(Amos 2:6), treat those under them cruelly (Amos 2:7), and women being shared between father and
son (Amos 2:7) When you look at these two lists it is painfully evident to see that God 's people
were very similar to those around them. Already they were becoming a lot like those around them,
failing to keep themselves pure and separate. When we look at these things that the Lord is finding
issue with, we can see just how many have to do with how they are treating those around them. By
showing his disapproval of these actions, God is showing us His heart on these matters. We can see
that God not only cares about what His people are doing but How His people are treating those
around them and the way that it reflects Him and what it says about His relationship between them
and Him. This speaks to the fact that God wanted

Both of them ignored the sacred agreement to protect his lands while he was on God's business. The
first suggestions that Richard may have been gay appeared in 1948. Yet John Gillingham,
distinguished author of three biographies of Richard, does not believe that he was gay. He says the
notion arose because Richard ignored for many years his betrothed, Alys, sister of Philippe of
France, who lived at his mother's court. When he finally married Berengaria of Navarre, they lived
apart and had no children. It was a dynastic marriage, designed to protect his southern borders
against the counts of Toulouse. When Berengaria died she had never visited England, although her

chroniclers suggested that Richard was 6ft 5in , with flaming red hair, a sort of taller version of
Prince Harry. But he also seems to have had a talent for composing and singing ballads. His
grandfather was the first troubadour, and more or less invented the chanson de geste (song of heroic

Augustus, we will both be fighting for Christianity. I hired a cartographer, to draw a map of mine

The President Of The United States
The morning of March 4, 1801, the outgoing President of the United States John Adams left
Washington D.C. before sunrise, the morning his successor was to be sworn into office. Criticized
for being a poor loser for not staying to welcoming the incoming President of the United States, this
quiet event in the stillness of the morning was one of the most profound events in political history
and an example of the uniqueness of the American system of government. The peaceful transfer of
power. Jaffa (CP 72) explains that the decision to rule based on a free election by a whole people
was a foreign idea before the American Revolution. He knows of no example before the election in

Adam's Federalists vacated the White House without incident, Jefferson's Republicans took power.
Former government employees were not harassed or persecuted by their successors. Historically one

The Reasons Of The Crusades
The Crusades were a series of military campaigns sanctioned by various Popes during the
MiddleAges. The first Crusade began in 1095, the second Crusade began in 1147, and the third c
Crusade began in 1189. The Crusades were religious idealistic wars against the Muslims in the Near
East.
The first Crusade started in 1095, when Jerusalem fell under the control of the Muslims. The
Byzantine Emperor Alexios I felt endangered by the Muslim invaders and pleaded for military
support. At the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban II beckoned the Christians to join the Byzantine
Empire and recapture Jerusalem. "Exaggerating the anti–Christian acts of the Muslims, Urban
exhorted Christendom to go to war for the Sepulchre, promising that the journey would count as full
penance and that the homes of the absent ones would be protected by a truce."1 Pope Urban II
spurred many people, ranging from the ordinary citizens to the elite military, to fight for Jerusalem.
Hugh of Vermandois, Godfrey, Raymond, and Bohemond were the leaders of the main armies that
marched toward Constantinople. When these Crusader armies arrived in Constantinople they had
little food and supplies. Alexios I offered to trade food and supplies with the men only if they swore
an oath of fealty. Raymond did not swear to the oath but did promise not to harm the Byzantine
Empire.

Salrayard The Lionheart : Saladin And Richard The Lionheart
Saladin and Richard The Lionheart.
But why are they still
remembered? Many have asked the same question, but it's down to one clear factor.
He gained his
infamous nickname "Richard the Lionheart" through his experience of leading rebels in Poitou in
the 1170s against his father, Henry II. During the third crusades he won in the battles of Cyprus,
Acre and Arsuf against Saladin. Richard the lion heart was famous for his fighting ability and fought
in many key battles during the Crusades. The battle of Arsuf for example is where he displayed his
brilliant war tactics and the brutal force of his army. After executing the Saracens of Acre the

Macbeth Hypocrisy Quotes
"The mind I sway by, and the heart I bear, / Shall never sag with doubt, nor shake with fear" (V. iii.
9–10 Shakespeare). This quote by Macbeth is a hypocrisy to the way he lived his life and attained
his power. Macbeth was often uncertain of the courses he should take to shape his destiny as well as
of the actions he had taken that construct his past. Through regret, corruption, lies, and the never–
ending desire to ensure power, Macbeth became insane and blinded to reality by greed and fear.
However, Macbeth did not start out a ruthlessly evil and morally corrupted man. It should be noted
that decisions corrupted Macbeth and transcended him from an honorable and well–respected man
to a feared and hated tyrant; not fate. One might argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Macbeth's conversion to evil is destiny's puppeteering of him in order to reach a new synthesis. The
renowned philosopher, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, used the example of a pendulum swinging.
It goes from one extreme direction, drastically to another extreme, and then finds solace in between
the two extremes. Such is so in Macbeth. "Most sacrilegious murther hath broke ope / The Lord's
anointed temple, and stole thence / The life o' th' building" (II. iii. 57–59). King Duncan is viewed as
heavenly, if not angelic; proof of his beloved and highly honored standing. Macbeth, however, is the
opposite of Duncan. He is referred to as "black Macbeth" (IV. iii. 52) as well as a "Great tyranny"
(IV. iii. 32). Therefore, the murder of Duncan and the rise to power by Macbeth falls within the will
of history, or fate. "Hegel regards history as an intelligible process moving towards a specific
condition" (Little). The process, in Macbeth's instance, is his life, and the condition is that Banquo's
descendants will be heirs to the throne. One might argue that nothing Macbeth could have done
would have changed the end result of his actions, and therefore any actions he takes are not his fault
but the fault of destiny. "Hegel finds reason in history; but it is a latent reason, and one that can only
be comprehended when the fullness of history's work is finished" (Little). Macbeth could not
possibly have foreseen his murders coming back to hurt him, when their sole purpose was to keep
him secure. Macbeth had a justifiable reason for doing what he did. Janet Landman, author of an
academic paper on regret, says "thinkers–from the ancient Greek philsophers [sic] to modern
cognitive scientists–have emphasized the role of reason in human thought and action" (Landman).
Macbeth used a twisted form of reasoning when making his decisions. Therefore, one might say he
maintained his sanity and did not spiral into a

Fourth Crusade Significance

  • 1. Fourth Crusade Significance A Crusade was used by the Europeans to reclaim the Holy Lands that were under the Muslims. They were considered Holy Wars that were brought on by the Popes. Talking about how the significance of the first three crusades led to the fall of Constantinople in the fourth crusade. We will have Jonathan Phillips making a guest appearance talking about his research in his book, The Fourth Crusade and the Sack of Constantinople. Story Line Part 1: Start off the documentary with introducing the crusades. For example the first crusade was mentioned by Pope Urban II in 1095. The first crusade was not actually launched until 1096. We would go into more details and explain why the Pope called for the crusade. We can explain how we summoned all Christians ... • 3. Arab-Israeli Conflict Essay During the time of the Mandatory Palestine, the Balfour Declaration signed in 1917, stated that the government of Great Britain supported the establishment of a "Jewish national home" in Palestine. This exacerbated tensions between the Arabs living in Mandate Palestine and the Jews who emigrated there during the Ottoman period. Signed in January 1919, the Faisal–Weizmann Agreement promoted Arab–Jewish cooperation on the development of a Jewish national homeland in Palestine and an Arab nation in a large part of the Middle East, though this event had little to no effect on the conflict. In 1920, the San Remo conference largely endorsed the 1916 Anglo–French Sykes–Picot Agreement, allocating to Britain the area of present day Jordan, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The British–appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al–Husseini, led opposition to the idea of turning part of Palestine into a Jewish state. In search for help in expelling British forces from Palestine, thus removing the enforcer of the Zionist enterprise, the Grand Mufti sought alliance with the Axis Powers. The response of the British government was to banish the Mufti (where he spent much of World War II in Germany and helped form a Muslim SS division in the Balkans), curb Jewish immigration, and reinforce its police force. The Jewish leadership (Yishuv) "adopted a policy of restraint (havlaga) and static defense in response to Arab attacks" and criticized the British for "what they regarded as Britain's retreat from the Balfour Declaration and its conciliation of Arab violence." It was at this time that critics of this policy broke away from the Hagana (the self–defense organization of the Yishuv) and created the more right–wing militant Irgun, which would later be led by Menachem Begin in 1943. • 5. Napoleon Bonaparte Visit The Plague-Stricken In Jaffa ' Orientalism is a form of art that was most famous during the nineteenth–century. This type of art represents nineteenth–century artists' stereotypical assumptions describing Middle East culture. According to "Orientalism in Nineteenth–Century Art" online article by Jennifer Meagher, "Some of the first nineteenth–century Orientalist paintings were intended as propaganda in support of French imperialism, depicting the East as a place of backwardness, lawlessness, or barbarism enlightened and tamed by French rule." Meagher claims that French leaders wanted to convey and to a certain extend romanticize their actions when colonizing many Middle Eastern regions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the online article "What is Orientalism" by unknown author, Orientalism is "a way of seeing that imagines, emphasizes, exaggerated and distorts differences of Arab (Middle East) peoples and cultures as compared to that of Europe and the U.S. It often involves seeing Arab (Middle East) culture as exotic, backward, uncivilized, and at times dangerous." One example of artwork that portrays the exotic view of the Middle East culture is The Turkish Bath (1863) by Jean– Auguste–Dominique Ingres. Although Ingres never visited the East, he used his imagination to create this painting. In his canvas painting, we see various naked women at a harem enjoying their bath time. The focal point is a group of six women towards the left side of the painting. Most of the women are wearing colorful, exotic turbans, and all of them are wearing exotic, luxurious jewelry. Some of the women are laying down on colorful, vintage designed mats. The women within this Oriental–styled interior are enjoying different types of activities such as talking to each other, relaxing, bathing and playing musical instruments. Around the harem are visible symbolic Middle Eastern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Kingdom Of Heaven Research Paper The Unrevealed Truth In this essay I will be summarizing the myths to the truths, of the movie Kingdom of Heaven to the real life history facts. Therefore Hollywood changed the facts to myths. I will be focusing on the longbow creation, relationships, and killing Arabs. In the movie Kingdom of Heaven, the longbow was used in the time of the movie. Unfortunately the longbow was really invented around 1180 C.E.. Created by the Celts in Wales. Which the longbow was not really used by the English military until the 1300s. A longbow is a an incredibly strong piece of wood roughly 6 feet tall and 5/8 inch wide. The longbow started becoming a great, well known weapon. The Hundred Years War was where the longbow really showed its strength. In some of the war's most decisive battles the longbow was the weapon that turned the tides. One memorable example: The Battle of Crecy War. Relationships in the movie Kingdom of Heaven was not one hundred percent accurate. • 9. The End Of The Palestinian Refugee Crisis The Arab argument is that the Jews purposefully expelled the native Palestinians from Palestine to make room for a Jewish state. They claim that the Palestinian Arab population was violently removed from their homes in Palestine by the Israeli army and forced to flee to neighboring Arab countries. However, historical fact points in the other direction. The start of the Palestinian refugee crisis was rooted in the divisions within the Arab population and its leadership. In Palestine, there were several dozen elite families, the 'Ayan, who controlled areas of Palestine. These families ruled on a strictly local scale and did not communicate with each other, creating what Benny Morris described as "a highly regional, oligarchic structure." The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This emotional detachment from the land was a major factor in the ease in which the Palestinians fled their homes for neighboring countries. This dysfunctional society and its pronounced lack of leadership prompted many Arabs to flee right after the Partition Plan was adopted by the United nations, before the war. In 1947, Arab morale was low in Palestine. There was a constant fear of Jewish reprisals for Arab terrorist attacks and the Palestinians did not have faith in their leaders ability and even willingness to protect them. The Arabs feared being caught in the war and they feared the prospect of living under Jewish rule. Wealthy Arab families were the in the vanguard of the Arab flight with Haganah reports of groups of fleeing Arabs on November 30, 1947, the day immediately following the ratification of the Partition Plan. A few days later, Arabs in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Tel Aviv and other towns and villages were evacuating their homes. On December 9, 1947, the Haganah intelligence service reported that "wealthy families were leaving the [coastal] cities – heading inland. Rich people are emigrating to Syria, Lebanon, and even Cyprus." The number of Arabs fleeing swelled so rapidly that on January 11, 1948, Elias Sasson, who was the director of the Arab Division of the Jewish Agency's Political Department, wrote to King Abdullah of Transjordan: "There is fear and terror everywhere. • 11. The Debate On Gay Marriage I. Introduction to Moral Dispute: Gay Marriage Contemporary moral disputes are constantly ongoing around the world and in the United States. For hundreds of years marriage has been defined as the legally or formally recognized union of a man and a woman as partners in a relationship. Up until relatively recently the debate on gay marriage has not been a popular topic. Gay marriage has been illegal in the US and most countries around the world up until the early 2000s.[1] The debate on gay marriage has grown with more and more people publicly speaking and giving their opinions on it, especially in the Unites States. II. Opposing Views Gay marriage has been largely opposed in the US for years now for several different reasons that mostly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [3] The strong support of this argument by religious figures, such as the Pope, makes this a strong argument for the opposing side. However, in more recent years Pope Francis has made a slightly less opposing statement, when he said "Who am I to judge a gay person?" [4] Showing how times have certainly changed in regards to view on homosexual people. American historian Harry Jaffa agreed with this idea that being gay is not natural, he then argues that if people think that this is natural than many other 'bad' things are also natural. Jaffa believes, "if sodomy is not unnatural, nothing is unnatural. And if nothing is unnatural, then nothing – including slavery and genocide – is unjust". [5]Jaffa argues that homosexuality is not natural because the only natural reason for relationships, according to the bible, is to have children. So, these arguments that homosexuality is unnatural and deviant (once again based off of the bible and religion) couple with the argument that the purpose for marriage, as defined by religion and the bible, is to reproduce, and since two men or two women cannot reproduce they should not be able to wed. An obvious continuation to this argument is the idea that by legalizing gay marriage it is giving the approval of homosexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two adversaries differed in partisanship, political success, height, methods of Government action, and most of all morality of what is right. Although the candidates presented polar opposites visions for America, they were similar in their dynamic display of debating. Both men possessed eloquence in their speeches and disposition. The debates consisted of seven encounters throughout Illinois. After one–hundred and fifty years, the historical significance of the debates continues to provoke further debate amongst modern scholars to this day, in turn, solidifying their importance in American History. Jaffa refers to revisionist James Randall's theories of Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, and then Drugmand, 2 presents a formulated and concrete argument to question Randall's theories. Stephen Douglas entered politics as a strong Jacksonian Nationalist that supported the Union. Douglas joined the Democratic Party and quickly elevated his political position. One of his achievements occurred when he assisted Henry Clay in passing the Missouri Compromise of 1850. After four years and continuous rise in political standing, Douglas devised the Kansas–Nebraska Bill. The Bill opened further territory in the West for expansion. Able to benefit from expanding railroad transportation, he devised the Bill in a way that promoted Popular Sovereignty. Many of these show the relationships we have with each other, and how they define us. This is evident in the short story "What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?" written by Etgar Keret, the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, and the poem "Without Title" by Diane Glancy. All of the works express what our relationships with other people could become. "What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish" is a short story by Israeli writer, Etgar Keret. • 23. A Comparison Of Saladin And Richard The Lionheart Why is Saladin and Richard the Lionheart Still remembered after thousands of years? Saladin and Richard the Lionheart have fought in many ferocious and important battles. Winning those battles needed quick thinking and cunning battle strategies. Both leaders were well respected by their men, the trust they had in them led to many great victories. But why are they still remembered? Many have asked the same question but it's down to one clear factor. When every muslim leader was reluctant to reconquer Jerusalem Saladin was the only person who stepped up. Richard's Discipline and his cunning tactics is why he is still remembered till this day. Both leaders had an enormous and important effect on the present time. Richard The Lionheart was born on September 8, 1157 at Beaumont Palace, Oxford. He gained his infamous nickname "Richard the Lionheart" through his experience of leading rebels in Poitou in 1170s against his father, Henry II. During the third crusades he won in the battles of Cyprus, Acre and Arusf against Saladin. Richard the lionheart was famous for his fighting ability and fought in many key battles during the Crusades. The battle of Arsuf for example is where he displayed his brilliant war tactics and the brutal force of his army. As stated earlier the source is written by the PLO and is part of a propaganda leaflet, it is a biased account from one of the fighting sides; it attempts to discredit the Israelis and so cultivate support for the Palestinians. The author was probably not an eyewitness as the source is written in 1984, which is over 30yrs after the event. Often, secondary sources written after the event can be useful and reliable as they reflect a wider picture and writers have access to a wider range of sources. Moreover the source was written by an official spokesman for the PLO, who would have access to a lot of information. Some of the information in the source can be corroborated through cross reverence to other souces. However, in this case I think, because of the writer's obvious views, the lapse in time will have given rise to a myth of error in account: indeed some of the language noted above is very myth–like. There may also be a question that they were allowed to speak freely; although it was written by the PLO in Palestine, Israel still had a lot of control over the Palestinian territories. After a big success, king Richard I of England or also known as the Lionheart lead a Christian army to conquer Jerusalem but were not able to. At this time, it seemed like the third crusade was close to its ending. King Richard and his army later arrived in Jaffa, they had to spend lots of time preparing to get there, because it served as the main entrance to Jerusalem, which king Richard the first and his army wanted to enter so that they could take over the holy city. They wanted to do this so that they could reclaim the holy land and make all of the Jews and Muslims become Christian. In the end it turned out to be Lionheart biggest victory. During the time where Richard and his Christian army arrived at Jaffa, the Jews were being badly invaded and treated horribly by the Christians. Richard arrived with his very very big army through Jaffa and into Jerusalem where the Jews (and very few Muslims) had an entire city built out and an entire economy built as well. On his return back to France, King Philip wanted to use Richard's absence at the crusade, to take back his land in France which was under English rule but he had sworn an oath halting him from doing so. He tried to break the oath by going to the Church and providing false documents that King Richard had a secret meeting with Saladin without the Church's permission. The Church did not believe him and refused to release him from his oath. This led to King Philip attacking Richard's territories once Richard returned from the crusade. It led to a seven year war till Richard died in 1199. Richard's brother, John, became the new king. The Anglo–French war of 1202–14 was another effect of the crusade as it led to more fighting in the Normandy area and John, King of England fought King Philip II of France for control. The tension was created due to the not so great relationship between King Richard and King Philip during the Third Crusade and also the tension between the Church and France. • 31. Greed In Macbeth In William shakespeare's play, Macbeth, there is a constant struggle for power that is displayed by Macbeth. The play demonstrates one of human's strongest nature which seems to be the desire for power. This play is entirely based on Macbeth's greed for power. As Macbeth gained more power, his behavior shifts from being a loyal and noble warrior to a power hungry man. He is a prime example of a character that is struggling to free himself from powers of others or seeks to gain power over others. Throughout the play, Shakespeare shows how the desire for absolute power can cause an individual to do evil deeds that lead to their own demise. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is depicted as a noble warrior; however, his greed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They invited the King to their house and Macbeth stabbed him to death that night and framed the servants, who he then also killed to make sure his evil deeds were kept a secret. The witches' prophecy became true after Macbeth was crowned king and this caused him to desire for more, but also paranoid that someone would come and take it away from him. Macbeth's transition from being good to evil is evident when he was consumed by his lust for more power. He became more confident after the successful murder of King Duncan and in order for him to stay in power, he must kill anyone that tried to take his crown and this eventually led to his downfall. Macbeth was so paranoid about losing his power that he went after Banquo and killed him because he was afraid of Banquo's son, Fleance, taking his throne. The first instance where Macbeth showed signs of him going insane was when he saw a vision of Banquo's ghost at the party with the Lords. Macbeth's hallucinations showed how his guilt was finally catching up to him. He was afraid of Banquo's ghost because his ghost was the evidence of guilt and fear that Macbeth could lose his crown. He was so blinded by his lust for power that he did not realize that "the punishment begins almost immediately with the punishment" (Jaffa, 2007). Summary Of 'The Little Bird Flew' And The Little Bird Flew Winter 1942– Leiser was cold, freezing in fact, as he arose from his bunk bed, a bed overflowing with other people, some dead and some merely asleep. He sat up among the sea of bodies, forgetting where he was or what happened, before the memories all came flashing back. September 1939– Word had just gotten to the Jaffa family's home city of Kovel that the Germans had begun invading Poland, and Leiser's father, Josef, was on edge. Rumors had spread that the Nazis intended to take the Jewish citizens of Poland as POWs, and that they had already done so with a few towns. Fagol, Leiser's mother, thought her husband was silly to believe such rumors. They began to argue over whether or not to flee the country, and eventually Fagol won out, keeping the family at home in Kovel. Fagol was more worried about another bombing taking place, and believed these rumors were just foolishness driven by the surprise of the attacks. To Leiser, the war seemed distant and his parents bickering unimportant. He hadn't seen any Nazi soldiers, so why would this have anything to do with them? He continued on with his everyday life, mostly consisting of his schoolwork, as he was only 14. Leiser had never been worried whenever his parents argued. His parents had always been very close, and Josef always loved to call Fagol his "little bird" because she was a beautiful woman, and her name translates to bird in Yiddish. In fact, they never stayed mad at each other for more than what seemed like ten minutes. So Leiser was unfazed by their arguments, and thought even less of the war. However, this carelessness with which they viewed the attacks would come back to hurt them, as it did so many others during WWII. 1940– Leiser and his family were living in an endless fear. About a year earlier Germany had invaded taken control over much of Poland, and it seemed the rumors were true. All Jews were required to patch a star of David onto their clothing and register themselves as Jewish, and they with the star they stood out in a crowd. Nazi soldiers patrolled Kovel almost every day leaving the town on edge. For many citizens, the biggest threat was of another bombing. For Leiser and his family, a bombing would only begin ... The aim of the 3rd Crusade was to recapture Jerusalem, commonly regarded as the Holy Land, from the Muslims. Saladin, the ruler of the Muslims, was the sole enemy in this military campaign. They agreed to end their conflicts with each other in order to lead a new crusade. • 47. 3rd Crusades Research Paper The Third Crusade was one of many medieval crusades to besiege the Holy Land in the 12th century. The purpose of the Third Crusade, like all the previous crusades, was to reconquer the Holy Land, an area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea that included Jerusalem, which was considered holy by both Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Jerusalem was considered holy and important to Christians because it was the home of Jesus' ministry. The Third Crusade, led by King Philip II, Richard I, and German Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, sought to recapture the Holy Land and Jerusalem from Saladin's Muslim forces and make up for the losses suffered in the Second Crusade. But, while all these rulers had an impact on the Third Crusades somewhat success, Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) contributed and impacted the Crusade the most with his exceptional military skill and ... • 49. Lev Shestov's 'Creation From The Void' By Lev Chekhov In his essay "Creation from the Void", existentialist philosopher Lev Shestov claimed that with regards to lofty concepts such as love, art, and inspiration, "Chekhov has only to touch them and they instantly wither and die." While his words may seem a bit radical, they do bear a certain truth. Even in his early works, Chekhov was at work deconstructing widely held principles and ideologies. In "Misery", Chekhov does this through his depiction of Iona Potapov, a lonely cab driver whose son has recently passed away. The story seems set–up to explore ideas relating to death, family, and society, but trying to find a clear theme hidden in Iona's suffering proves to be a difficult task. Chekhov tends to raise more questions than he answers. However, this doesn't mean that "Misery" is lacking in depth. Chekhov just focuses on particular details that capture the complexity and raw realities of his subject, trusting the reader to find the meaning. In "Misery", one such detail is found in Iona's name itself, which he shares with a famous Old Testament prophet (referred to as "Jonah" for distinction). Chekhov's allusion to Jonah introduces a hint of Christian thought into "Misery" while avoiding its themes, providing him with a platform to deconstruct prominent Christian views in Russian society and in the works of his literary peers. Chekhov's use of the Jonah allusion is subtle and cautious. As Julie Sherbinin notes, "Christian legends and iconography do not function in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Social Injustice Was Rampant During Amos 's Time Social injustice was rampant during Amos's time. Not only within Israel/Judah, but also in the foreign kingdoms around them. We are first introduced to the sins of Israel's neighbors in Amos chapters 1 and 2, which the Lord has found unfavorable which include; crushing Gilead in a cruel manner ( Amos,1:3 New International Version), selling communities into slavery (Amos 1:6, 1:9), murdering their brothers, killing women and their babies (Amos 1:11, 1:13), and burning the bones of others (Amos 2:1). Then we are introduced to the sins of Israel and Judah which include; forgetting the law (Amos 2:4), worshipping other gods (Amos 2:4), selling people into slavery (Amos 2:6), treat those under them cruelly (Amos 2:7), and women being shared between father and son (Amos 2:7) When you look at these two lists it is painfully evident to see that God 's people were very similar to those around them. Already they were becoming a lot like those around them, failing to keep themselves pure and separate. When we look at these things that the Lord is finding issue with, we can see just how many have to do with how they are treating those around them. By showing his disapproval of these actions, God is showing us His heart on these matters. We can see that God not only cares about what His people are doing but How His people are treating those around them and the way that it reflects Him and what it says about His relationship between them and Him. Yet John Gillingham, distinguished author of three biographies of Richard, does not believe that he was gay. He says the notion arose because Richard ignored for many years his betrothed, Alys, sister of Philippe of France, who lived at his mother's court. The first Crusade began in 1095, the second Crusade began in 1147, and the third c Crusade began in 1189. The Crusades were religious idealistic wars against the Muslims in the Near East. The first Crusade started in 1095, when Jerusalem fell under the control of the Muslims. The Byzantine Emperor Alexios I felt endangered by the Muslim invaders and pleaded for military support. At the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban II beckoned the Christians to join the Byzantine Empire and recapture Jerusalem. "Exaggerating the anti–Christian acts of the Muslims, Urban exhorted Christendom to go to war for the Sepulchre, promising that the journey would count as full penance and that the homes of the absent ones would be protected by a truce."1 Pope Urban II spurred many people, ranging from the ordinary citizens to the elite military, to fight for Jerusalem. Hugh of Vermandois, Godfrey, Raymond, and Bohemond were the leaders of the main armies that marched toward Constantinople. When these Crusader armies arrived in Constantinople they had little food and supplies. Alexios I offered to trade food and supplies with the men only if they swore an oath of fealty. Saladin and Richard the Lionheart have fought in many ferocious and important battles. Winning those battles needed quick thinking and cunning battle strategies. Both leaders were well respected by their men, the trust they had in them led to many great victories. But why are they still remembered? Many have asked the same question, but it's down to one clear factor. When every Muslim leader was reluctant to reconquer Jerusalem Saladin was the only person who stepped up. Richard's Discipline and his cunning tactics is why he is still remembered till this day. Both leaders had an enormous and important effect on the present time. • 73. Macbeth Hypocrisy Quotes "The mind I sway by, and the heart I bear, / Shall never sag with doubt, nor shake with fear" (V. iii. 9–10 Shakespeare). This quote by Macbeth is a hypocrisy to the way he lived his life and attained his power. Macbeth was often uncertain of the courses he should take to shape his destiny as well as of the actions he had taken that construct his past. Through regret, corruption, lies, and the never– ending desire to ensure power, Macbeth became insane and blinded to reality by greed and fear. However, Macbeth did not start out a ruthlessly evil and morally corrupted man. It should be noted that decisions corrupted Macbeth and transcended him from an honorable and well–respected man to a feared and hated tyrant; not fate. One might argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macbeth's conversion to evil is destiny's puppeteering of him in order to reach a new synthesis. The renowned philosopher, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, used the example of a pendulum swinging. It goes from one extreme direction, drastically to another extreme, and then finds solace in between the two extremes. Such is so in Macbeth. "Most sacrilegious murther hath broke ope / The Lord's anointed temple, and stole thence / The life o' th' building" (II. iii. 57–59). King Duncan is viewed as heavenly, if not angelic; proof of his beloved and highly honored standing. Macbeth, however, is the opposite of Duncan. He is referred to as "black Macbeth" (IV. iii. 52) as well as a "Great tyranny" (IV. iii. 32). Therefore, the murder of Duncan and the rise to power by Macbeth falls within the will of history, or fate. "Hegel regards history as an intelligible process moving towards a specific condition" (Little). The process, in Macbeth's instance, is his life, and the condition is that Banquo's descendants will be heirs to the throne. One might argue that nothing Macbeth could have done would have changed the end result of his actions, and therefore any actions he takes are not his fault but the fault of destiny. "Hegel finds reason in history; but it is a latent reason, and one that can only be comprehended when the fullness of history's work is finished" (Little). Macbeth could not possibly have foreseen his murders coming back to hurt him, when their sole purpose was to keep him secure. Macbeth had a justifiable reason for doing what he did. Janet Landman, author of an academic paper on regret, says "thinkers–from the ancient Greek philsophers [sic] to modern cognitive scientists–have emphasized the role of reason in human thought and action" (Landman). Macbeth used a twisted form of reasoning when making his decisions. Therefore, one might say he maintained his sanity and did not spiral into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Simon Jaffa's Meddling Kids While I was reading the book Meddling Kids I was able to use the reading strategy of questioning. The question that I have is who really is Simon Jaffa? I think that Simon Jaffa could be someone who worked for the RH Corporation and worked in the mine. I think this because when they were going through the mine they found a dead body and found a driver's license in the dead body's pocket. The detectives thought that it was kinda uncanny that they found this dead body with a driver's license in the pocket. In the book this was what helped me come to think that he was a mine worker "Inside the wallet, there was a driver's license, seven dollars, chewing gum, and a company ID card. Expedited by the RH Corporation" (Cantero, 182). I also think that Simon Jaffa could be a man that was Mr. Wickley's lawyer. I think this because when they were doing some investigating Andy mentioned the name Simon Jaffa to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the predictions that I have is that I predict that the Blyton Summer Detective Club will investigate another case. I think this because they had ascertained more about the Sleepy Lake monster and the Debons which made them think of how much fun they had when they were younger. Also the book helps me predict this because it states "So what? One guard's gone missing, the other talks about an evil clown sabotaging the rides. Sound like our next case" (Cantero 317). Another prediction that I have is I think that the Denoia Debon will find them and get them back for what they did to her. I think this because in the book Denoia said "Crap, Did I miss it" (Cantero 314). Also I predict this because the book states "You...... It won't end like this! I swear, Andy Rodriguez, this has just begun" (Cantero 283). Edgar Cantero did a good job of allowing me to use the reading strategy of predicting he also allowed me to use the reading strategy of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
