Adverse Consequences Of Drug Storage
Despite having lots of beneficial effects, every drug has side effects. Drugs and
medications are similar to pestisides and pollutants with respect to their potential of
long term storage.
1. Many drugs and toxins mimic natural substances and can enhance, reduce or
block chemical reactions.
2. Retention of toxins in vital organs can lead to impaired function of that organ.
3. Chronic exposure of toxins to body tissues may lead to systemic deficiencies.
4. Drugs may disrupt the endocrine function of white fats causing emotional
problems, fatigue, weight change and inflammation.
5. Many drugs have a potential to remain in our body for an extended time
contributing to the accumulation of synthetic compounds. Cocain and
methamphetamine are examples which may then lead to drug related deaths due
to long time storage.
6. Storage site may act as a reservoir and “soaks up”the drug, resulting in low bio-
availability of drug for later use.
7. Lipophilic drugs (like anesthetic) have to be administerd in high dose so that it
may reach its target site despite being absorbed.
8. Redistribution phenomenon occurs (leakage of drugs from storage to target site)
long after the original dose should have been eliminated, which leads to
prolonged effect of drug or adverse effects.
9. Many researches demonstrate that many stored drugs not only cause adverse
effects for our generation but additional adversaries for atleast two subsequent
generations.
