The most important aspect of creating an artist, is figuring out the target
audience for the artist. You cannot create an artist without having the right
target audience. An example of a internet business failing was due to the
business not having the right target audience.
The first step of creating a target audience is the demographic.
4. DEMOGRAPHIC?
This is the set objective characteristics that describe a certain group of people.
These types of person will b willing to listen and buy your music.
The characteristic will include age, sex, race, interests, location this might
include education and lifestyle.
The most important characteristic will be age. An example of the appropriate
age is sold to teens, artist like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Chris Brown.
As most music is sold to teens, record companies are excited to sell music to
teens due to the scale of airwaves that hit that type of target audience. But also
they use stereotypical statistics in order to find the right target audience
6. LOCATION
Location is important to promote an artist, certain genres of
music is influenced by the certain areas of music.
Alternative/grunge was created in Seattle, Glam rock and
metal (genre) LA.
This will influence the person/target audience to listen to that
type of music due to the location.
7. AUDIENCE GOALS
Maximising the spread/reach of music. Artist will use gigs,
websites and other promotional products to target to certain
audience types.
Questionnaire to understand or to observe the music industry
to see if there is a space for an audience type.
Communicate with audience. For example websites, blogs,
twitter, tumbler, Instagram etc. Basically social network.
Promote. Airwave time, YouTube, Apple store, Spotify etc.
