2. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Define rotating equipment
2. Classify rotating equipment
3. List types of rotating equipment
3. DEFINITION
Rotating equipment are any piece of
equipment that rotates for the purpose of
moving products such as solids, liquids and
gases.
4. DRIVEN
DRIVER
TRANSMISSION DEVICE
AUXILARY EQUIPMENT
Rotating equipment is a system, there are many
parts.
These parts can be classified into 4 basic function
classifications of rotating equipment.
Classifications of rotating
equipment
5. DRIVEN
Equipment that are driven by another piece of
equipment.
This equipment cannot rotate by itself. It needs
rotational torque in order to work to move
products.
6. DRIVER
Equipment that provides the rotational torque
Make the driven equipment to rotate and do
work.
Driver provide rotational power to the driven
equipment.
7. TRANSMISSION DEVICES
Both the driven and the driver are two
separate piece of equipment within the rotating
equipment systems.
Transmission device provides the connection
between the driver and the driven.
It also reduces the rotational speed of the
driver to match the requirements of the driven
equipment.
8. AUXILARY EQUIPMENT
Auxiliary equipment provides the ‘support’ that
enables the rotating equipment system to
perform its job.
In order for the whole rotating equipment
system to operate efficiently and reliably
without any breakdowns.
10. Both pumps and compressors move fluid from
one energy level to another.
Pump moves an incompressible fluid - liquid
like water.
Compressor moves a compressible fluid - gas
like air.
