1. Frequency:
I would publish my magazine monthly so that it could be more affordable by the audience and they would have
time to read the previous magazine. By selling the magazine monthly it would require less money to make them. It
would also benefit by selling it monthly because people would have to wait for the next month to get the magazine,
they can also have a subscription with us so they can have the magazine delivered to their house when it is
released, this would bring more income from the magazine because it would be delivered to their house instead of
going out and buying it in a shop.
Genre/target audience:
The magazine I will be making is a film magazine. There will be a variety of articles about a romantic comedy
film, which is an ABC1 all genders between the ages of 14-18 which is the primary audience. The secondary
audience is people from any genders from the ages between 20-35 because there are not many people between
these ages that like these types of magazines. This magazine would be good for both males and females
because they would be reading a magazine in which they would be interested in and this would be an easy
readable magazine and easy to understand. I have chosen this type of magazine because it would appeal to the
primary and secondary audience because they could relate to it and they could also learn from it as well and
apply it to real life, they could also use the magazine to just read it. I have chosen this style of magazine because
I would want people to see the stories behind the film and know secret features about the film that no one else
would know. Having that would make the reader feel like they are benefiting from buying the magazine. I would
consider that everything in this magazine would be the most important feature because it wouldn’t be able to sell
issues if each article, actor, etc… didn’t relate and connect with the audience.
Similar magazines:
I would want my magazine to be similar to Empire magazine because they make their magazines very
informative and classy, however they would be my biggest competition as empire is an extremely popular film
magazine. In empire magazines there are many important features such as their articles and images as they
relate and connect with the audience therefore they are popular and sells lots of issues. However they don’t
include the name of actors and I think some readers would want to know who they are. Therefore I would include
that in mine.
Contents:
In my magazine there is going to be articles about the actors and their films, facts
about them, and exclusive clues about the film if they haven’t come out yet. I think
it is a good idea to look at other magazines because you can get inspiration and
see how I can create the best layout that is most popular with the audience. My
magazine will have similar information as other film magazines because we will
be writing similar articles and include similar images and our magazines will have
the same structure.
Ideas:
At this stage I would want my magazine to be similar to the empire magazine.
My cover model will be a boy and he will have half of his face printed large on
the front of the magazine with the eyes being the main focus with the audience
being class ABC1 any genders. The name of my magazine is going to be hive
film, which has a connotation of being unique on my contents page there will
be a collage of images or film posters with a little article next to them and
numbers next to them that show where to find them in the magazine to reed
them in more detail. My feature article will about a actor in a film and it will have
a interview and quotes about what there feeling about the film and who they
worked with, and other facts such as how long it took etc… I also want my
magazine to use quite bright colours and that also represent the theme of the
film such as red and white. I will dress my cover model in a bright t-shirt and
dark genes which would be casual and that would be what most people think
would be worn in a romantic comedy film.
Mood/Values of my magazine:
Once I have finished my magazine I would want it to look classy and
professional because I think that will appeal to the primary audience as they
are older and more mature therefore making it classy and professional will
make the audience buy the magazine therefore it will fulfil its main purpose as
a magazine and will sell many issues as the audience can relate and connect
with it, but I don’t want it to be boring so I would want it to be informative and
entertaining so the reader can feel like they have benefited by buying this
magazine.
Publicity:
I will do subscription deals so the new release that comes out monthly will get
delivered to their door so they don’t have to go out and look for it and buy it, it
will be cheaper and easier for them in the long run, this will also increase the
sales of the magazines. I will also use social media to advertise the magazine
and I will also put out daily posts on instagram or tweet on twitter of what’s
going to be on the next magazine that’s coming out this month.
Unique selling points:
I think my magazine will be different to any other film magazine as I believe it is
going to be more mature, formal and professional, and for the high end market
rather then the other film magazines are quite cheep but the quality of paper for
example is not that good where my magazine will be a good price and the
pages and content will be good as well.
2. Idea:
My idea is a romantic comedy film magazine, the target audience is of people at the age of 14-18. The color scheme
would be red and white because it is the colors of romance. For the article I would do a question and answer interview.
In the interview I will ask these questions: how old are they, what are their interests and hobbies. The article would be a
question and answer interview, the camera shots would be location shots and a few studio shots because it would look
more natural for the magazine. The font would be red and black because that is the color scheme for romance.
3. Location:
Locations that I will use would be pinner park because it has a peaceful environment and it would be easy to get there by walking
and to carry the equipment there, the weather would not be much of a problem because the worst type of weather is rain but
we can just use umbrellas so non of the models would get wet. Another location could be the London eye on central London
because it is a eye conic location and it has many place to take photos at. We would go there by car and put he equipment in the
back of the car. Depending on the weather we could take different types of shots but if it rains we can use umbrellas.
The final place would be in a studio for shots that don’t get effected by the weather or what time of day it is.
Timeframe:
It would take approximately one week to take all of the photos needed for the magazine because these shots have to be taken at
different locations and the weather will not always stay the same, then it would take two days to edit all of the photos because
the photos have to be looked at and decided weather or not to krrp them and then to do any editing that is needed and then to
set up the rest of the magazine would take three days because assembling a magazine takes quite a bit of time.
Organisation:
I will be hireing a editor because we will need someone to edit the photos while everyone else does their roles. i will be doing
the camera shots because i have experience in using a camera and i know exactly what kind of shots i need. i will also have a
person putting together the magazine because they will know how the magazine should look like and what they can do to make
it look good. i will be doing the interviews with the actors because i know what to ask and how long to spend on each question.
4. Audience breakdown:
My primary audience would be people from the ages of 14-18 in the classes of ABC1 because this type of magazine appeals to
people between these ages and being in these classes is because people in these classes have disposable income. my secondary
audience would be people between the ages of 20-35 because these age groups would be the second largest amount which
attracts interested in these types of magazines and they would be in classes C2DE because they don't have that much disposable
income and for both primary and secondary audience the magazine would be for both genders. the audience would take
pleasure from my magazine because I would make it enjoyable and educational and because they would be reading something
that they enjoy.
Props and costumes:
the props that I would use would be a umbrella because they are in many rain scenes in romantic and comedy films. I would also
use flowers because they have appeared in countless romantic films and comedy films. for costumes I would use casual clothes
like jeans, hoodies and t-shirts because in romantic and comedy films they would be wearing casual clothes
Fonts:
The font that I am going to be using is the default font because it is easy to read, it is simple and it easily catches peoples eye.
Resources:
the type of resources that i am going to be using would be a DSLR camera with a prime lenses and a tripod because it can adjust
the lighting to get very different types of shots and I also have access to a photo studio which is also used as a classroom but in it
there is also a white background which can make it easy to edit and remove the background.
5.
6. editors code of practice:
to follow the rules of the editors code of practice I would have to follow article 6.1 by not interviewing children during school
times but I will do it after school times. and to also follow article 6.2 by having permission from their parent or guardian I will
take pictures of the kids to put in my magazine
Overall cost:
The overall cost would be £6,990 because as you can see in the sreenshot of the spred sheet the costs for pre-production is in
total £840, production is in total £3350, equipment and facilities is in total £1150 and post-production is in total £1650.
