The On Base Tank Reported At Command Ops
Arriving on base Tank reported to Command Ops. They recalled him from leave for a mission in Syria. From his platoon, the eight–man team selected
consisted of sniper units also Arabic language qualified people with Tank in command. They are going in by way of a HALO jump at night. At the
briefing, they learned they were going to support, the Northern Storm Brigade. They are an Islamist FSA unit that controls an important border
crossing between Syria and Turkey. There had been deadly clashes between the Northern Storm Brigade and the IslДЃmic State of Iraq and the Levant
(ISIL) after the Jihadist group stormed their positions. Their mission was to light up specific ISIS targets for Air Ops. The secondary was to kill or
capture any and all insurgents. To carry out their mission, their leave, the military cut short due to the requirements of the service. The C–130 wasn't a
second late, and they were airborne at 0300 hours. With a flying time of 15 hours, they would be over the drop zone by 0100 hours Syrian time.
Climbing to cruising altitude took a while. They had lots of time for a last–minute check of the gear, so they settled in for the long flight. Closing in on
the drop zone, Brooks called out. "Lock and load." The last inspection of their chutes and harnesses went off without a hitch. The aft door of the C–130
began to open. Every eye was on the jump light, which would soon turn green. Every ear listened to the harnessed Jumpmaster standing near the door.

Civil War Narrative Essay
Inside the camouflaged tent, four men stood around a large table. The only illumination coming from an overhead lamp shining down on a map
covered with red, green and grey blocks. Listening intently to the headsets they each wore they would occasionally reach out with thin poles they each
held and move one or more of the green and red blocks, maneuvering them around the larger grey blocks that indicated one of the nearby city's
buildings.
Striding into the tent a young officer glanced over the map, swore and strode back out, barking orders into the heavy downpour to the assembled troops.
After a few moments of gentle silence, the officer re–entered the tent, this time with several other officers in tow.
"Status?" asked one of the senior officers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

back and arm, onto the map and as he began to lose consciousness and stopped hearing as two soldiers busted into the tents to see the horror. The
officer spat out his last words telling the soldiers to "watch their backs" as he faded away. A few days later the military had stopped the virus and

Persuasive Essay On Gun Control
Those who long for a gun on every citizen would encourage an enforced "polite" society precisely because guns would complete everyone to tamp
down eccentric behavior, and refrain from actions that might seem threatening. Gun control advocates assert that by undermining our ability to arm,
we allow complete government despotism a greater chance of reality. By being armed, we can stand up to a regime of control. If they were to take
our guns aways then we wouldn't be able to protect ourselves from danger or those who are not that intelligent whom try to hurt us in the wrong
ways. A world without guns is one in which the most aggressive men can do more or less than anything they want. It is a world in which a man with
a knife can rape and murder a woman in the presence of a dozen witnesses, and none will find the courage to intervene. If she just had a gun to protect
herself things like this wouldn't happen. Even in the hands of innocent people, guns can esclat a crime situation unnecessarily; due to the insane nature
of attacks, robberies, etc. Guns pose a monumental challenge to freedom, and particular, the liberty that is the hallmark of any democracy worthy of
the name that is, freedom of speech. Freedom of speech and expression can only exist with the knowledge that nonviolence will be the response. "The
fact is, the widespread availability of guns is a significant, but often overlooked, cause of persistent inequality in the United States. Focusing on the
relationship between guns and inequality will allow gun control advocates to argue that restricting firearm access is an essential step towards achieving
social justice and economic empowerment"(Schuman..). But then again guns aren't the problem it's the people, guns don't kill people, people kill people.
The U.S has the highest gun ownership rate in the world; there are 89 guns to every 100 americans, compared to in England and Wales and the
murder figures themselves are astounding for Brits, used to around 550 murders per year. In 2011 there were 12,664 murders in the U.S of those,
8,583 were caused by firearms. Most of those were caused by illegal firearms bought on the black market by "bad" people. But the problem is deciding

Villers-Bretonneux Battle Analysis
2. Introduction
This was a vital, ferocious, do–or–die attack, and as long as the night advance lasted, no quarter was shown (Australian government, 2015). The second
battle of Villers–Bretonneux was a battle situated in the town of Villers–Bretonneux in the Picardy region of Northern France. It took place on the 24th
and 25th of April 1918 exactly 3 years after the Gallipoli landings.
3. The purpose of the battle
The purpose of the battle was to take back the town of Villers–Bretonneux after the Germans broke British lines to take the town in the morning of the
24th of April. The town was seen as a strategic position for attacking the major town of Amiens.

Analysis Of The Poem ' I Hell And Back '
Audie Murphy, one of the most well–recognized and most decorated soldiers of the United States Army of World War II, participated in two battles
which earned him respect and awards. The first, his efforts in taking Yellow Beach of southern France, earned him the Distinguished Service Cross.
The second, in a battle outside of Holtzwihr, France, earned him the Medal of Honor. Not only are these events well documented for official records,
they appear in his "autobiography" To Hell and Back, ghostwritten by David "Spec" McClure with Murphy providing details, along with various
sources which include family scrapbooks, the accounts of soldiers who served with Murphy which they gave for his medal citations, and a recently
published History of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This account, so far, squares with an account by Staff Sergeant Norman Hollen, also of Company B. Not mentioned in Hollen's account was Murphy's
killing of two Germans who he stumbled across before finding the light machine–gun, a fact which both Smith's and Graham's accounts mention .
The accounts do seem to differ in that Murphy describes machine gun fire being responsible for Tipton's death while Hollen suggests it was a sniper .
Graham supports Murphy's assertion of machine gun fire being the cause of Tipton's death, as he places the blame not on a sniper in the house, but on
the machine gun nest which Murphy storms . Meanwhile, David Smith, writer of The Price of Valor, sides with Hollen, claiming a single sniper shot
was responsible for Tipton's death. Two schools of thought appeared in the literature about what occurred and there seems no way of reconciling them.
However, Smith claims that Murphy said that it was a sniper, not a machine gun, contradicting the narrative of To Hell and Back.
Murphy's and Graham's accounts seem to show that he did not use his carbine, while Hollen and Smith both claim that Murphy killed the two
Germans who had approached with the flag of surrender with his carbine. Murphy, Smith, and Graham all agree that Murphy carried a German
machine gun which he had captured "like a BAR" and fired it from the hip as he proceeded up the hill. This detail wasn't mentioned by Hollen, who

U.S. Marine Corps Weapons: 1940s and Today A lot of men see the differences in generations within the military, but few can see that early military
formed everything in to the way the military is today. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the Marine infantryman's basic weapons of
the 1940s and today, to include the rifle, machine guns and anti–tank weapons. In the 1940s every U.S. Marine was issued and carried with him where
ever he went, a 9.5 lb, 43.5 inches, M1 Garand. The body of the weapon was made from a solid piece of wood and the barrel was fabricated from a

The M249 fires a 5.56x45 millimeter round that can fire up to 850 rounds per minute from a 100 round linked drum and can accurately engage a
target out to 1,000 yards. Just like its 1940s counterpart it is used on the front lines for its light weight and maneuverability. The M249 will soon be
replaced with the M27. The medium weight machine gun that is in use today is the M240G which weighs in at 25.6 lbs at 49.7 inch's. The M240G
can fire up to 950 rounds per minute from a 100 round linked drum and can accurately engage and eliminate a target out to 1,800 yards. The M240G,
just like the M1919, fires a 7.62x51 millimeter and was placed on the front lines and in aircrafts for its high caliber and its high rate of fire. Lastly the
heavy machine gun that we use today is the same that was used in the 1940s, the M2. There have been very few changes, such as parts made out of
lighter medals. The last class of weapons to cover is the main anti–tank weapons. During the 1940s the main anti–tank weapon is also one of the most
famous weapons that were on the battle field, the M9, also known as the Bazooka. The M9 weighed in at 14.3 lbs unloaded at 61 inches. The
warhead itself weighed in at 3.5 lbs and was a 57 millimeter caliber and consisted of a 1 lb shape charge that could penetrate up to 4 inches of armor.
The warhead was only accurate out to 120 yards, which is getting close to a tank for a shot, but could be fired out to 500 yards. As the M9 was long in

All Quiet On The Western Front Analysis
In the novel All Quiet On The Western Front written by Erich Remarque, the protagonist Paul deal's with the new ways of fighting in world war 1 as
this war introduced multiple new ways to bring death and violence. He needs to adapt to living in the trenches, machine gun fire, and the constant
fear of a shell landing on him. This novel portrays the ways in which living styles and weapons in war changed warfare for the worst, drastically
increasing the brutality. During world war one, the soldiers would have to fight on the battlefield and needed to find a way to stay there without
immediately dying. The military found that digging up a system of ditches in the ground would keep the soldiers alive long enough to fight. These
ditches, named trenches, changed the men inside of them. The men would live in some of the cruelest conditions within a base than any other previous
war. Men within the trench had to deal with a foot disease known as trench–foot along with constant splinters, which both caused major damage to feet.
When Paul's within the trench heading to the hospital area, he says "My thoughts become confused. This atmosphere of carbolic and gangrene clogs
the lungs, it is a thick gruel, it suffocates" (Remarque 2.37). This line says how living condition's inside trenches made soldiers miserable with multiple
uncomfortable smells and other influences. The living conditions of the trench show how world war one had changed warfare for the worst through the

Essay on Weapons Used in World War II
World War II is one of the most recognized battles in the history of the world. The battle originated with Germany's invasion of Poland. This sparked
the beginning of the war, though the United States was not yet involved. The U.S. came into the picture after the attack on Pearl Harbor on the
morning of December 7, 1941. Though Japan was the more "direct opponent", the United States Army Rangers, Marine Corps., and every other branch
of military took on Japan and Germany.
Fighting on the Frontlines One of the more famous battles in the war was the Invasion of Normandy, France by the Allied forces, also known as
"Operation Overlord". The arriving troops came ashore to heavy gun fire that wiped out a good portion of the soldiers that ... Show more content on

This weapon was typically on a tripod to steady the bouncing that came with automatic fire. One of the more unpredictable attacks came from the
Arisaka Bolt–Action Rifle. Rifles were recognized in WWII for their long range and accuracy. This gun could be used with or without a scope. When
scoped, range was greatly increased, as the shooter could see farther distances and put a round down range with precision. Though this wasn't the
primary weapon for most of the soldiers, it was favored by snipers for its precision at long ranges.
Weapons of Destruction
American soldiers were using fairly new weapons compared to previous conflicts. The fully automatic assault rifle was new addition to the American
arsenal. A prime example of the sheer power and deadliness of an automatic rifle is the M1918BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). This gun was the
first of it's kind for American forces. Though it was a bit heavy, it had stopping power. It blasted the .30–06 Springfield round down range at 2,822 f/s.
Although the iron sights weren't all that great, the aperture view did the job quite well for targets that were a little ways out. Due to the success of
this weapon, Browning set out to create a better, stronger version of it for heavier combat. The M1919 Browning Heavy Machinegun was deployed.
This monster of a gun was usable without a bipod, but heavy and hard to aim without. With a 600 round per minute rate of fire from a direct feed belt,
the Browning was one of the

The Basic Pistol Qualification Course
1. The basic pistol qualification course is not an accurate indication of firearms proficiency for the experienced shooter. The basic pistol qualification
course has to be repeated if members allow their qualification to lapse. Qualifying on the basic pistol course repeatedly is a time consuming and costly
evolution. The basic pistol qualification should be removed from the firearms re–qualification standard.
2. Coast Guard policy currently requires that any pistol qualified members who have allowed their qualification to lapse, or failed to re–qualify on
Practical Pistol Course (PPC), must re–qualify on the basic pistol course before attempting to qualify on the PPC course. A lapse of qualification is
identified as not qualifying on the PPC course within 365 days of previous qualification. Failure to qualify on the Sig Saur P226DAK service pistol
may be attributed to many factors. Members can fail to qualify for a number of reasons: Lack of familiarization with the weapon system due to limited
opportunities to practice with the P226DAK is the leading factor. Many members will only fire with this weapons system during biannual weapons
qualification. Weapon costs and rental availability atgun shops and shooting ranges in the members area make more practice and familiarity difficult
at best, and nonexistent at worst. Members may also fail to qualify on the PPC course due to the many steps of the PPC course, and again, lack of
practice in the various steps of the

A Report On My Mortar Platoon
It was a rainy morning in mid–October. My mortar platoon was able to do a week's worth of dismounted patrols tasked with clearing compounds of
interest of IED factories, weapons caches, and drug stockpiles (mainly marijuana). The patrol from the previous day ended with an hour's worth of
small arms and several IEDs. I knew that today would most likely be the same. At around 0600 we mounted in our MRAPs and Strykers and also
picked up the Sappers and EOD. Before leaving FOB Zangabad we linked up with the ANA that we were doing a joint patrol with and then left our
start point. We drove north on RTE Quebec and made a right onto RTE Hyena near checkpoint 17, which was an ANA checkpoint. My convoy

The rain started to come down extremely heavy so we strong pointed inside a building for roughly 30 minutes. As soon as we began to step off
again one of the ANA shot into the sky right next to us. We yelled at him and got him to stop but he would not tell us why he did it. The other
ANA began joking and just saying he was an idiot and we started moving again. I remember jumping a small stream and one of the sappers fell onto
his back and was rolling side to side saying "I can't get up ugh". All the ANA were pointing and laughing and so were we. We were all having a
pretty good time up until now, joking around and what not. Continuing on we are about to leave the compound to walk alongside a mud wall that
ran north and south. We turn south and start walking down and an ANA soldier looks at me and says "RPG good" and shoots a random building
with his RPG. Baffled we all just keep moving forward and then one explosion goes off. A few seconds after another. I look out just in front of me
and see a potpourri of dirt, rocks, and body parts with some hitting me in the face. Machine gun fire starts to our 11 o'clock position and more to our 2
o'clock. It's about 100–200 meters away. We use the mud wall as quick cover and start returning fire. We start taking more fire from our 1230
position and I head 4 enemy 100 meters. I started laying down whatever fire I could but ultimately I couldn't see anyone. Every time I popped my head
up a whiz went right by my head. At this point

Gun Control Is A Decent Answer For The United States
Throughout the years there have been numerous of debate confrontations about regardless of whether weapon control is a decent answer for the United
States. Therefore, two extremely particular sides have shaped: one for gun control and one against it. As of late, the pro weapon control side has
contended that the numerous school shootings were halfway an aftereffect of our nation 's negligible firearm control. To numerous this might appear
like a sensible contention, however in actuality it is an over–speculation; there are numerous different variables that have impact in horrendous
occasions like school shootings. Those against firearm control have contended that weapon control laws are an infringement of subject 's protected
rights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those supporting firearm control contend that in the event that we confine weapons then murder and wrongdoing rates will drop. Be that as it may,
until we tackle the disdain on the planet there will dependably be wrongdoing and murdering. Hoodlums will discover different weapons or figure out
how to get firearms wrongfully. Contemplates demonstrate that in ranges with more weapon laws, wrongdoing is higher. Until we can begin getting
serious about the individuals who perpetrate violations, firearm laws can do nothing to offer assistance. It is not the weapon that executes, but rather
the individual pulling the trigger. Samuel Jackson said, "I don't think it's about more gun control, I grew up in the south with guns everywhere and we
never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren't taught the value of life."
The individuals who advocate weapon control have contended that 66% of murders are conferred with a gun (Zimring 1978). Be that as it may, even
with weapon control, manslaughters would assuredly proceed with in light of human instinct (Zimring 1978). Killers would simply swing to another
weapon and we would see more manslaughters conferred with blades, tomahawks, clubs, or different weapons (Zimring 1978). In the event that
somebody needs to execute sufficiently gravely for all intents and purposes anything can be transformed into a weapon. This can be demonstrated by
insights that

Through the portrayal of consequences caused by the MG, Goodison then injects factual information regarding the aftermath of the "parade ground

components, the episode itself projects an immense yet highly accurate visual of the Battle of Mons. With the use of testimonials by soldiers who
experienced the Battle of Mons, the film dramatizes the battlefield while accurately preserving the historical events. The movie begins with an
introduction of Maurice Dease, Lieutenant of the machine gun section for the Royal Fusiliers and the main characters in it. It shows the ongoing
preparation for the German assault on the Nimy bridge, until the German fleet marched in a parade–like fashion towards the British, inflicting heavy

infuriated they would feel to find out that I murdered their son. Living in the trenches is extremely horrible, even though I have only been in it for two
days. Although, it is clever that these trenches, that are created by digging in the mud, are designed to protect us from machine gun fire. They are
muddy, and when it rains, the mud can slowly trickle onto my outfit. These trenches are rat infested, and the filthy rats always steal the last morsels of
food that we have. We use the backside of our shovel to smash and kill the filthy rats. When I first smashed a rat, blood oozed out of the rat and its
body was twisted. Nobody could bear to watch that horrendous sight anymore. I immediately ran away; it was the first living thing that I had killed in
my entire life. I felt happy but remorseful at the same time. Here in the Western Front, clouds always block the rays of the vivid sunshine; the

The Sniper-Personal Narrative
The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay developed in darkness, but for the dim light of the moon that shone through fleecy clouds,
casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets and the dark waters of the Liffey. Around the beleaguered Four Courts the heavy guns

The Battle Of The Somme And Waterloo
Sarah Cooper
HIST 101–001

In "The Face of Battle," John Keegan analyzed the experiences of the individuals involved in the battles of the Somme and Waterloo; he thoroughly
examined the advancements of industrialization in warfare and battle strategy between 1815 and 1916. The industrialization of modern warfare during
the battle of the Somme, while progressive, was very much still in its experimental stages. While the inventions during this time period were later
evolved into much more useful products, it seems as though the organized warfare in Waterloo was much more effective; the soldier's mediocre
training for the Somme was obvious in the chaotic events that occurred. While each battle was disastrous in their own ways, industrialization certainly
improved means of warfare and the experience that the soldiers had.
The warfare in Waterloo consisted primarily of rifles, swords, cavalry, andartillery; these weapons were most effective close range which resulted in
the French and British being in close proximity to one another. With immense amounts of training, a variety of battle tactics and formations, the square
was ultimately the most effective. However, despite being located a short distance away from the enemy, thick, black smoke obstructed the soldiers'
vision on both sides of the battlefield, creating a less than optimal battle conditions. Due to the lack of effectiveness of their weapons, success in
Waterloo often depended on the experience of the

Norton's original version was just a cylindrical bullet with a hollow base on one end.(historynet.com) After the original invention of Norton there were
various other type of minie balls that were created to improve on the previous versions. The first improvement came from a man named William
Greener a man from London who in 1836 created a more oval shaped bullet with a flat bottom.(Historynet.com) In 1849 two French army captains,
Claude–E'Tienne Minie and Henri–Gustave Delvigne, created the more well know shape of the minie ball made from soft led with four rings that
would work with the rifled that had a riffled barrel that they made.(Historynet.com) The name for the Minie ball comes from one of the creators of the
official minie ball Claude–E'tienne Minie. Lastly before its use in the civil war James Burton adapted it with a hollow base for easier use in mass
production and less cost. The impact the previous versions of the minie ball had on wars prior to the Civil shows how much influence the design has.
It went through many steps to become its final product during the civil war, the design was improved so much that it become one of the reasons so
many people ended up being killed instead of being just injured. The design let the rifle be loaded much faster, shoot farther, and be more deadly.

Gun Laws And Practices Regulate Gun Control
Guns have always been a major problem in the United States of America. The Second Amendment to the Constitution gives us the right to "bear
arms," which makes everyone feel they need to have a gun, and that can lead to dangerous situations for people in the US. It is very easy to get
yourself a gun. It costs less than an iPhone to get. The problem I am trying to get at is that there are inevitably going to be gun–use violations, and
people can use the Second Amendment to get guns way too easily. My essay will deal with how we can create laws and practices to regulate guns,
how we can stop guns from getting into the wrong hands, and also how we can prevent mass shootings.
This is all one big picture. There is a slippery slope, where one problem leads to another. I feel that most people don't understand what the Second
Amendment means to other people. Many people think, "I have to carry a gun on me at all times" or, "Since I have the right to, I am going to buy
assault rifles and machine guns for the hell of it. See the Second Amendment." But nowhere in the Second Amendment does it state that you have a
right to bear arms to protect your home, or if you feel you are in danger.
It is so easy to obtain almost any gun. I mean, someone could easily buy a machine gun or assault rifle. A simple background check and it is yours. And
unfortunately, these mass shootings do occur as a result. These shooters can be homegrown terrorists, or tied to terrorist organizations overseas.

per 100,000 people. The U.S. has a murder rate of 4.7 per 100,000 people and it is not getting any better. A ban on assault rifles would have a
positive effect on the murder rate. Assault rifles are known to be the most dangerous firearm in the world because of its rapid fire capability and its
deadly range and damage. That is what makes it such a unique and interesting weapon that should not be taken lightly. The government has been
working on some bills but they are not putting enough work into making it happen. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is in charge of the processes of the
ban, is suggesting is that the government passes a bill that will limit the capacity of ammunition in a magazine and ban assault weapons that are too
dangerous for public use. The safety of U.S. citizens is vital and banning assault rifles will help make the United States a safer place.
Assault rifles are defined as one of the most dangerous firearms. The government is working to try to solve the assault weapons crisis, a problem is
what they need to ban and what do they need to limit. There is a large debate on what is classified as an assault weapon – some argue that it is a weapon
that is fully–automatic.

Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay
George Mason, a co–author of the Bill of Rights, said "To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them" If this is true, why
would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S? Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776. Many
people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at
schools, but this is not the case. Outlawing guns is not the answer for effectively reducing gun crime.
According to Wikipedia, a firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon that launches one or more projectiles often driven by the action of an
explosive force. The first firearms were invented in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Murder by knives was first, followed by clubs, then strangulation. It seems that by banning guns, people used other ways to kill. On the other hand,
Switzerland's gun policy is very different than other nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault rifle
when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving everyone a high–powered, fully automatic firearm.
Another hot–topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select–fire guns (capable of semi–automatic or fully automatic fire),which
have the ability to shoot rounds as long as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have banned owning
assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and aren't practical for hunting or self–defense, whereas other firearms fill
that position well. In some cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low–capacity clip may not suffice.
Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49%
according to Pew Research. The media is to blame for sensationalizing shootings and with the internet's influence an argument that got out of hand can
be seen as an all out battle. The Second

This lack of food coupled with a poisoned environment ultimately lead to rapidly spreading diseases popping up globally along with mass starvation

"With the loss of such a large chunk of the world population, militaries returned to slash and burn methods as they retreated, further damaging the

John Basilon Leadership Essay
For our legacy leader paper I have been assigned to select a leader who has had a positive impact on my growth as a leader and a Military Intelligence
professional; as well as discuss the legacy that I would like to leave behind. In this paper I will discuss lessons that I have learned from the story of
John Basilone. John Basilone was a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp who earned the Medal of Honor during World War Two. He
was a leader who left a resonating impression in the Marine Corp and the American people during a time of great turmoil; and while not a military
intelligence soldier his story has left an impression on me as a leader in today's Army. On the 25th of October 1942 John Basilone and his Platoon
were engaged in a battle at Guadalcanal that had already endured for two days. At midnight the Japanese began an attack in which hundreds of Japanese
infantrymen rushed the remaining American lines. Sergeant Basilone, who was an experienced machine gunner was in charge of two heavy machine gun
sections, quickly organized his formation and began to manage the fight. There are numerous accounts of the actions he took on the battlefield that day
including running through gunfire and grenade bursts to resupply his men with ammunition and operating the machine gun himself. Eventually during
a small break in the fighting, Sergeant Basilone managed to reorganize his machine guns and remaining men into an improved defensive position which

The Technological Advancements Of World War II
William Pollard once said, "Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be
sufficient tomorrow." Maybe the generals of World War 1 (WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and
rifles and machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the time of technological innovations and
changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I will write about are machine guns, planes and tanks.
On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a
machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army defending a
position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as
reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated that
around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in
the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of WW1 significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a
weapon used in all areas of the world ever since these first guns were used in WW1.

Arms Trafficking: Gun Running
Arms trafficking also known as "Gun running," is the means in which small arms are illegally transported into a wide range of different countries.
Ranging from the US, China, Afghanistan, Africa all over the country this illegal activity takes place to support anything from civil unrest, a
revolution, even full blown war. Most of the weapons are stock piles from past wars that are sold on the black market to whoever has the deepest
pockets. There are also often times on the black market where people put up jobs to transport illegal weapons from point A to point B that are sold to
the lowest bidder. These weapons range from small arms (revolvers and self–loading pistols, rifles and carbines, submachine guns, assault rifles, and

The Battle Of The War
Continuously throughout the battles of World War One, machine guns played crucial defensive roles due to their immense firepower, notably during
the pivotal Battle of the Somme. One of the first countries to implement the power of the machine gun semi–effectively was Germany. Germany,
knowing the immense firepower of such a weapon, increased the amount of machine guns used. In contrast, Britain almost completely denied the
machine gun, using results from previous wars to deduce that the machine gun was ineffective. France, one of Britain's allies on the Western Front, was
just recently introduced to the machine gun. The French military's reaction to the introduction of the gun was one that underestimated the power of the

The French army had recently been introduced to machine guns because they were behind in terms of industrialization and warfare. The French had
fallen behind in warfare, as Germany was focused on further progression in military advancements and Britain was waging war in South Africa.
Everyone else seemed to be progressing because they needed to, unlike France. The French reaction to machine guns was that they were weapons that
would make no difference at all. They thought this because the British, who were also their allies, held low expectations towards machine guns, and the
French weren't accustomed to modern industrial warfare.
The British didn 't really see the effectiveness of the machine gun due to the results and conclusions derived from the South African War. From 1899 to
1902, Britain deployed multiple machine guns and Pom Pom guns to be watched over and observed in terms of effectivity. An immense lack of tactics
greatly tainted these observations and thus also tainted the impressions of the machine gun's power. This was due to the machine gun not having tactics
to help it excel in warfare and thus it fell behind its brothers, the light machine guns and muskets. As a result, numerous British generals, during the
time of World War One, dismissed the use of machine guns, as they were ineffective during the previous wars. The South African War was waged in

Necessary Restrictions of Assault Weapons
Necessary Restrictions of Assault Weapons It seems that gunmen can walk freely in schools at present. Too many murders with assault rifles and
pistols happened in campus. The Americans laying down under gunfire are not troopers patrolling in Middle East threating by terrorism, but children
having classes and playing with friends in campus. Every police officer and nurse cannot forget the tears left on faces of who can never see the sun of
tomorrow and even celebrate their 10–year birthdays. Arguments about an old topic of limiting guns and weapons are now rising again; but this time,
parents turn to be main supporting force of such prohibition. Emphasizing the right of owning weapons, which is protected by US Constitution, or at
least, an amendment, some people are still the resisting power against any forms of restriction of firearms. However, even ignoring the fact that
related laws are actually outdated, some actions seem to be necessary for protecting children away from malice of weapon keepers. Therefore, the
restrictions of assault weapons should be considered to put onto the agenda due to the excessive power of assault weapons, the obsolete background
check system helping proliferation of firearms, and erroneous interpretation of constitution of private arms by opponents. First of all, such laws were
legislated for self–defense purposes of US citizens, but high–power assault weapons tend to be excessive for this concept. When a supposed criminal

More and more frequently, we are saddened by the news of mass shootings. Whether it takes place in a school or public area, these shootings are both
disastrous and mortifying. Families begin to feel anger and sadness, and demand immediate justice. Although these terrible events continue to happen,
there have been no significant steps taken towards the reduction in the number of weapons; specifically assault rifles. This leads one to question do
we need to ban the right to possess such weapons? If the possession of these weapons is not made illegal, we run the risk of another attack. While
there is no questioning the severity of these mass shootings, a ban on assault rifles is not the answer because they are not the cause of such events,...

The bill definitely has good intentions, but the fact of the matter is that these shootings are anomalies. Since 2006, there have only been six cases in
which ten or more people were killed in a given shooting (USA Today). Therefore, these are not common events. At less than once per year for the
last seven years, it is something that might even go unnoticed had there not been a great deal of news coverage following such events. To add to that,
out of the 231 mass killings in the United States in the last seven years, only a mere thirty–two of these cases have been due to guns (USA Today). This
means that there are many more important issues than assault rifles when it comes to the prevention of mass shootings. One of the main issues with
mass shootings is not the guns but the people who wield the guns. In the United States, less than six percent of people are considered to have
"serious" mental disorders (National Institute of Mental Health). Less than one percent of that number would even be at the risk of committing as
catastrophic a crime as a mass shooting. This is the type of person who would do such a thing. Again, this is not common at all. We are talking about a
handful of people in the whole country, yet news coverage and popular opinion makes it out to be a common event. Seung–Hui Cho, the Virginia Tech

form of armed combat. Technology is a major deciding factor in war, along with the battle tactics used, terrain, experience and professionalism of the
opposing forces. By 1961 both the United States and Vietnam had developed a broad array of guns and weapons to fight off one another. Coupled
with battle tactics this provides a deadly and extremely hostile environment. In the beginning of the war the weapon of choice for the support troops

The M–16 is infamous for its accuracy on the battlefield especially at longer ranges. Both assault rifles share the same 5.56mm projectiles, which
provides significant stopping power. The M–203 grenade launcher was a muzzle–loaded grenade that fit under the barrel of assault rifles such as the
M–16. The 40mm grenade was used to provide additional fire support in a gunfight. The high explosive had a range of 400m and a blast radius of 5m.
Before the M–203, infantry used a weapon called the M–79 grenade launcher. Which largely resembled a sawn off shotgun. The M–79 was designed to
take up the gap between maximum hand grenade distance, and minimum mortar fire distance. It could fire an array of projectiles which included darts,
buck shots, smoke, gas and flares. The M–79 was ideal in Vietnam terrain. Although the M–16 was very easy to use in the field, some of the U.S.

Weapons of the American Civil War
Amongst the most lasting of factors stemming from the Civil War are the weapons that were developed. Before the Civil War, the weapons used were
highly unreliable, and were not advanced enough to provide the needed defense for a young nation such as our own. Innovative minds created many
interesting ways to demolish their enemies without ever having to fire a shot or go into full combat through different types of bombs that were in
disguise. Among the advancements in the Civil War were the torpedo, the carbinerifle, the minie` ball, several models of rifle–muskets, rocket

A few years of development and a patent later, the minie` ball was ready for combat. In the 1850's, James H. Burton, a master of arms, made a few
alterations such as slightly lengthening the bullet and thinning the walls of the hollow base. These alterations made the minie` ball much easier and
cheaper to mass–produce; this is what was used by the blue and gray's out on the battlefields.
The Union soldiers were more likely to carry the U.S. Model 1861 Springfield Rifle–Musket than any other weapon. These guns were not the easiest or
most convenient weapons even if they were the most common. The Model 1861 was a .58 caliber gun, was 58.5 inches long, and weighed in at a
heavy 9.25 pounds. This rifle was nicknamed "The Widow Maker." This nickname was made with great thanks to the minie` bullet which was an
integral part of this rifle–musket. The combination of the rifle–musket and the minie` bullet forever changed the face of warfare; thus because for the
first time ever, men could aim at a distant target, and have a decent chance of hitting it. This luxury allowed the gun–bearers to hide in a safe place, yet

Just then an armoured car came across the bridge and moved slowly up the street. It stopped on the opposite side of the street, fifty yards ahead. The
sniper could hear the dull roar of the motor. His heart beat faster. It was an enemy car. He wanted to fire, but he knew it was useless. His bullets would

Then round the corner of a side street came an old woman, her head covered by a tattered shawl. She began to talk to the man in the turret of the car.
She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. An informer.
The turret opened. A man's head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle and fired. The head fell heavily on the

Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper dropped his rifle with a curse. The rifle clattered to the roof. The sniper thought the
noise would wake the dead. He stooped to pick the rifle up.

look that that risen zombie is no longer a living member of the human society. Its movement is generally slow with very poor skills and coordination.
Its walk is clumsy and unbalanced. This is caused in part by the cellular decay of their nerves and tissue, and also the poor functioning of the portion
of the brain that controls functions. Without control of their circulatory and other systems, the body begins to decay quite fast. This rapid decay

A Brief Note On The Battle Of Tarawa
THE BATTLE OF TARAWA
Geographical location.
Tarawa is an atoll about 2400 miles Southwest of Hawaii. Betio is its largest islet on 3 miles long and 1/2 miles wide on the west side with an
airfield from east to west, with a lagoon bordering Tarawa to the north with a bordering reef extending offshore around 1,200 yard. The water of the
lagoon was shallower however it was deeper on the south than the north shore which could give a better landing location.
Tarawa 's military importance was in its strategic position as entrance of United States through the Central Pacific toward the Philippines
Preceding the Battle
The Allied forces in the Pacific were victorious at Guadal–canal in early 1943 therefore begun planning for new attacks. Admiral Chester Nimitz
developed plans of campaigning across the Central Pacific forwarded to attacking Japan by moving from one island to another, using each as a base
to attack the next across. Nimitz desired to begin in the Gilbert island , seeking the Marshalls through the Marians whereby conquering these would
make it easy for the forces to bomb Japan on full scale.
Commander Rear Admiral Keiji Shibasaki of the Japanese garrison realized that if they took control over Tarawa in the Gilbert island, it could block
Allied communications and other supplies with Hawaii. The Japanese held the islet from 1941– 1943 in the course of World War 2. The battle is
historically recorded to have started on 20th November to the morning of 23rd November

Technological Advancements During The First World War
"A nation 's ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability." An English inventor who was of great importance in the invention of
the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with him, as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the use
of technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First World War (WW1) have led to much of the technology that
we have today, ranging form the various weapons modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is significant
then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the future. In this way, did the technological innovations in WW1,
such as gas, communications and the machine gun, not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our world is
shaped today?
One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use of gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as
it was thought to be the weapon to break the stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life–endangering
injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas masks, were invented and improved. Gas in the latter parts of
the war was not released from canisters but was fired in gas–filled artillery shells, which led to more accurate and devastating

soldiers remain an essential element of modern armies, both because there are tasks they do best, and because even the richest nations can't afford to
equip millions of soldiers with tanks. This essay details the various classes of weapons carried and used by infantry soldiers, including the multiple
classes of guns.
Pistols are generally not suitable for military fighting. With their very short effective range and little ammunition, they are carried in combat by soldiers
who are not expected to use them as their main fighting weapon, such as airmen, senior officers, non–combatant soldiers, and other military ... Show

A 19th century technology, these rifles were powerful and very accurate weapons, effective to a long range of over half a mile, but since they required
manual reloading after each shot, they were never suitable for combat situations which demanded a rapid rate of fire, and were therefore replaced
during the war by newer weapons. The only combat role where bolt–action rifles are the best even today, are sniper rifles, where their long effective
range and high accuracy are the only things that count. These are bolt–action rifles which are adapted with magnifying telescopic sights, and often also
with additional enhancements such as bipods, cushions, and higher standard production, all in order to maximize the sniper's ability to deliver the few
selective shots that can sometimes affect the battlefield more than a hail of less accurate bullets. Semi–Automatic Rifles were the natural development
from the bolt–action rifle. By simply adding an automatic reloading mechanism, these guns provided the soldier with a significantly faster rate of fire,
not just technically, but also because he could keep his aiming eye on the sights and on the target between shots, making continuous aiming and firing
possible. These quickly became the basic personal weapons of World War 2

The On Base Tank Reported At Command Ops

  • 1. The On Base Tank Reported At Command Ops Arriving on base Tank reported to Command Ops. They recalled him from leave for a mission in Syria. From his platoon, the eight–man team selected consisted of sniper units also Arabic language qualified people with Tank in command. They are going in by way of a HALO jump at night. At the briefing, they learned they were going to support, the Northern Storm Brigade. They are an Islamist FSA unit that controls an important border crossing between Syria and Turkey. There had been deadly clashes between the Northern Storm Brigade and the IslДЃmic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) after the Jihadist group stormed their positions. Their mission was to light up specific ISIS targets for Air Ops. The secondary was to kill or capture any and all insurgents. To carry out their mission, their leave, the military cut short due to the requirements of the service. The C–130 wasn't a second late, and they were airborne at 0300 hours. With a flying time of 15 hours, they would be over the drop zone by 0100 hours Syrian time. Climbing to cruising altitude took a while. They had lots of time for a last–minute check of the gear, so they settled in for the long flight. Closing in on the drop zone, Brooks called out. "Lock and load." The last inspection of their chutes and harnesses went off without a hitch. The aft door of the C–130 began to open. Every eye was on the jump light, which would soon turn green. Every ear listened to the harnessed Jumpmaster standing near the door. Moving closer, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The only illumination coming from an overhead lamp shining down on a map covered with red, green and grey blocks. Listening intently to the headsets they each wore they would occasionally reach out with thin poles they each held and move one or more of the green and red blocks, maneuvering them around the larger grey blocks that indicated one of the nearby city's buildings. Striding into the tent a young officer glanced over the map, swore and strode back out, barking orders into the heavy downpour to the assembled troops. After a few moments of gentle silence, the officer re–entered the tent, this time with several other officers in tow. "Status?" asked one of the senior officers. ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On Gun Control Those who long for a gun on every citizen would encourage an enforced "polite" society precisely because guns would complete everyone to tamp down eccentric behavior, and refrain from actions that might seem threatening. Gun control advocates assert that by undermining our ability to arm, we allow complete government despotism a greater chance of reality. By being armed, we can stand up to a regime of control. If they were to take our guns aways then we wouldn't be able to protect ourselves from danger or those who are not that intelligent whom try to hurt us in the wrong ways. A world without guns is one in which the most aggressive men can do more or less than anything they want. It is a world in which a man with a knife can rape and murder a woman in the presence of a dozen witnesses, and none will find the courage to intervene. If she just had a gun to protect herself things like this wouldn't happen. Even in the hands of innocent people, guns can esclat a crime situation unnecessarily; due to the insane nature of attacks, robberies, etc. Guns pose a monumental challenge to freedom, and particular, the liberty that is the hallmark of any democracy worthy of the name that is, freedom of speech. Freedom of speech and expression can only exist with the knowledge that nonviolence will be the response. "The fact is, the widespread availability of guns is a significant, but often overlooked, cause of persistent inequality in the United States. Focusing on the relationship between guns and inequality will allow gun control advocates to argue that restricting firearm access is an essential step towards achieving social justice and economic empowerment"(Schuman..). But then again guns aren't the problem it's the people, guns don't kill people, people kill people. The U.S has the highest gun ownership rate in the world; there are 89 guns to every 100 americans, compared to in England and Wales and the murder figures themselves are astounding for Brits, used to around 550 murders per year. In 2011 there were 12,664 murders in the U.S of those, 8,583 were caused by firearms. Most of those were caused by illegal firearms bought on the black market by "bad" people. But the problem is deciding who should and should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second battle of Villers–Bretonneux was a battle situated in the town of Villers–Bretonneux in the Picardy region of Northern France. It took place on the 24th and 25th of April 1918 exactly 3 years after the Gallipoli landings. 3. The purpose of the battle The purpose of the battle was to take back the town of Villers–Bretonneux after the Germans broke British lines to take the town in the morning of the 24th of April. • 5. Analysis Of The Poem ' I Hell And Back ' Audie Murphy, one of the most well–recognized and most decorated soldiers of the United States Army of World War II, participated in two battles which earned him respect and awards. The first, his efforts in taking Yellow Beach of southern France, earned him the Distinguished Service Cross. The second, in a battle outside of Holtzwihr, France, earned him the Medal of Honor. Not only are these events well documented for official records, they appear in his "autobiography" To Hell and Back, ghostwritten by David "Spec" McClure with Murphy providing details, along with various sources which include family scrapbooks, the accounts of soldiers who served with Murphy which they gave for his medal citations, and a recently published History of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This account, so far, squares with an account by Staff Sergeant Norman Hollen, also of Company B. Not mentioned in Hollen's account was Murphy's killing of two Germans who he stumbled across before finding the light machine–gun, a fact which both Smith's and Graham's accounts mention . The accounts do seem to differ in that Murphy describes machine gun fire being responsible for Tipton's death while Hollen suggests it was a sniper . Graham supports Murphy's assertion of machine gun fire being the cause of Tipton's death, as he places the blame not on a sniper in the house, but on the machine gun nest which Murphy storms . Meanwhile, David Smith, writer of The Price of Valor, sides with Hollen, claiming a single sniper shot was responsible for Tipton's death. Two schools of thought appeared in the literature about what occurred and there seems no way of reconciling them. However, Smith claims that Murphy said that it was a sniper, not a machine gun, contradicting the narrative of To Hell and Back. Murphy's and Graham's accounts seem to show that he did not use his carbine, while Hollen and Smith both claim that Murphy killed the two Germans who had approached with the flag of surrender with his carbine. Murphy, Smith, and Graham all agree that Murphy carried a German machine gun which he had captured "like a BAR" and fired it from the hip as he proceeded up the hill. Newberry ENG 121 Benjamin Daw 6/11/2012 U.S. Marine Corps Weapons: 1940s and Today A lot of men see the differences in generations within the military, but few can see that early military formed everything in to the way the military is today. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the Marine infantryman's basic weapons of the 1940s and today, to include the rifle, machine guns and anti–tank weapons. In the 1940s every U.S. Marine was issued and carried with him where ever he went, a 9.5 lb, 43.5 inches, M1 Garand. The body of the weapon was made from a solid piece of wood and the barrel was fabricated from a solid piece of medal witch chambered a 7.62x51 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like its 1940s counterpart it is used on the front lines for its light weight and maneuverability. The M249 will soon be replaced with the M27. The medium weight machine gun that is in use today is the M240G which weighs in at 25.6 lbs at 49.7 inch's. The M240G can fire up to 950 rounds per minute from a 100 round linked drum and can accurately engage and eliminate a target out to 1,800 yards. The M240G, just like the M1919, fires a 7.62x51 millimeter and was placed on the front lines and in aircrafts for its high caliber and its high rate of fire. Lastly the heavy machine gun that we use today is the same that was used in the 1940s, the M2. There have been very few changes, such as parts made out of lighter medals. The last class of weapons to cover is the main anti–tank weapons. During the 1940s the main anti–tank weapon is also one of the most famous weapons that were on the battle field, the M9, also known as the Bazooka. The M9 weighed in at 14.3 lbs unloaded at 61 inches. The warhead itself weighed in at 3.5 lbs and was a 57 millimeter caliber and consisted of a 1 lb shape charge that could penetrate up to 4 inches of armor. • 7. All Quiet On The Western Front Analysis In the novel All Quiet On The Western Front written by Erich Remarque, the protagonist Paul deal's with the new ways of fighting in world war 1 as this war introduced multiple new ways to bring death and violence. He needs to adapt to living in the trenches, machine gun fire, and the constant fear of a shell landing on him. This novel portrays the ways in which living styles and weapons in war changed warfare for the worst, drastically increasing the brutality. During world war one, the soldiers would have to fight on the battlefield and needed to find a way to stay there without immediately dying. The military found that digging up a system of ditches in the ground would keep the soldiers alive long enough to fight. These ditches, named trenches, changed the men inside of them. The men would live in some of the cruelest conditions within a base than any other previous war. Men within the trench had to deal with a foot disease known as trench–foot along with constant splinters, which both caused major damage to feet. When Paul's within the trench heading to the hospital area, he says "My thoughts become confused. This atmosphere of carbolic and gangrene clogs the lungs, it is a thick gruel, it suffocates" (Remarque 2.37). This line says how living condition's inside trenches made soldiers miserable with multiple uncomfortable smells and other influences. This sparked the beginning of the war, though the United States was not yet involved. The U.S. came into the picture after the attack on Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. Though Japan was the more "direct opponent", the United States Army Rangers, Marine Corps., and every other branch of military took on Japan and Germany. This weapon was typically on a tripod to steady the bouncing that came with automatic fire. One of the more unpredictable attacks came from the Arisaka Bolt–Action Rifle. Rifles were recognized in WWII for their long range and accuracy. This gun could be used with or without a scope. When scoped, range was greatly increased, as the shooter could see farther distances and put a round down range with precision. Though this wasn't the primary weapon for most of the soldiers, it was favored by snipers for its precision at long ranges. Weapons of Destruction American soldiers were using fairly new weapons compared to previous conflicts. The fully automatic assault rifle was new addition to the American arsenal. A prime example of the sheer power and deadliness of an automatic rifle is the M1918BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). This gun was the first of it's kind for American forces. Though it was a bit heavy, it had stopping power. It blasted the .30–06 Springfield round down range at 2,822 f/s. Although the iron sights weren't all that great, the aperture view did the job quite well for targets that were a little ways out. Due to the success of this weapon, Browning set out to create a better, stronger version of it for heavier combat. The M1919 Browning Heavy Machinegun was deployed. This monster of a gun was usable without a bipod, but heavy and hard to aim without. With a 600 round per minute rate of fire from a direct feed belt, the Browning was one of the ... The basic pistol qualification course has to be repeated if members allow their qualification to lapse. Qualifying on the basic pistol course repeatedly is a time consuming and costly evolution. The basic pistol qualification should be removed from the firearms re–qualification standard. 2. Coast Guard policy currently requires that any pistol qualified members who have allowed their qualification to lapse, or failed to re–qualify on Practical Pistol Course (PPC), must re–qualify on the basic pistol course before attempting to qualify on the PPC course. A lapse of qualification is identified as not qualifying on the PPC course within 365 days of previous qualification. Failure to qualify on the Sig Saur P226DAK service pistol may be attributed to many factors. Members can fail to qualify for a number of reasons: Lack of familiarization with the weapon system due to limited opportunities to practice with the P226DAK is the leading factor. My mortar platoon was able to do a week's worth of dismounted patrols tasked with clearing compounds of interest of IED factories, weapons caches, and drug stockpiles (mainly marijuana). The patrol from the previous day ended with an hour's worth of small arms and several IEDs. I knew that today would most likely be the same. At around 0600 we mounted in our MRAPs and Strykers and also picked up the Sappers and EOD. Before leaving FOB Zangabad we linked up with the ANA that we were doing a joint patrol with and then left our start point. The other ANA began joking and just saying he was an idiot and we started moving again. I remember jumping a small stream and one of the sappers fell onto his back and was rolling side to side saying "I can't get up ugh". All the ANA were pointing and laughing and so were we. We were all having a pretty good time up until now, joking around and what not. Continuing on we are about to leave the compound to walk alongside a mud wall that ran north and south. As of late, the pro weapon control side has contended that the numerous school shootings were halfway an aftereffect of our nation 's negligible firearm control. Be that as it may, until we tackle the disdain on the planet there will dependably be wrongdoing and murdering. Hoodlums will discover different weapons or figure out how to get firearms wrongfully. Contemplates demonstrate that in ranges with more weapon laws, wrongdoing is higher. Until we can begin getting serious about the individuals who perpetrate violations, firearm laws can do nothing to offer assistance. It is not the weapon that executes, but rather the individual pulling the trigger. Samuel Jackson said, "I don't think it's about more gun control, I grew up in the south with guns everywhere and we never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren't taught the value of life." The individuals who advocate weapon control have contended that 66% of murders are conferred with a gun (Zimring 1978). Be that as it may, even with weapon control, manslaughters would assuredly proceed with in light of human instinct (Zimring 1978). Killers would simply swing to another weapon and we would see more manslaughters conferred with blades, tomahawks, clubs, or different weapons (Zimring 1978). With the use of testimonials by soldiers who experienced the Battle of Mons, the film dramatizes the battlefield while accurately preserving the historical events. The movie begins with an introduction of Maurice Dease, Lieutenant of the machine gun section for the Royal Fusiliers and the main characters in it. It shows the ongoing preparation for the German assault on the Nimy bridge, until the German fleet marched in a parade–like fashion towards the British, inflicting heavy German casuality. In historical events, the Germans did march in a parade–like fashion towards the Nimy bridge, thus making that scene accurate. Currently, I am in Northeastern France (the Aisne–Marne Sector) near the towns of Belleau Wood and Chateau–Thierry near the Marne River. Specifically, I am in a waterlogged, rat infested trench. Officially, I am fighting in the Battle of Belleau Wood, and I am a Private in the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment (Marines) lead by Captain Lloyd Williams. This captain will go down into history, he is an exceedingly influential leader. When we saw the French Soldiers retreating and advising us to retreat, he retorted, "Retreat, hell! We just got here!" I wonder, if I met that person's family, how sorrowful and infuriated they would feel to find out that I murdered their son. Living in the trenches is extremely horrible, even though I have only been in it for two days. Although, it is clever that these trenches, that are created by digging in the mud, are designed to protect us from machine gun fire. They are muddy, and when it rains, the mud can slowly trickle onto my outfit. These trenches are rat infested, and the filthy rats always steal the last morsels of food that we have. We use the backside of our shovel to smash and kill the filthy rats. When I first smashed a rat, blood oozed out of the rat and its body was twisted. Nobody could bear to watch that horrendous sight anymore. I immediately ran away; it was the first living thing that I had killed in my entire life. I felt happy but remorseful at the same time. Dublin lay developed in darkness, but for the dim light of the moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets and the dark waters of the Liffey. Around the beleaguered Four Courts the heavy guns roared. Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, spasmodically, like dogs barking on lone farms. He had a wife, and three kids, and his life had been as good as it can be. His life was always interesting, when he knew the sniper had been out. The Battle Of The Somme And Waterloo Sarah Cooper HIST 101–001 830538724 In "The Face of Battle," John Keegan analyzed the experiences of the individuals involved in the battles of the Somme and Waterloo; he thoroughly examined the advancements of industrialization in warfare and battle strategy between 1815 and 1916. The industrialization of modern warfare during the battle of the Somme, while progressive, was very much still in its experimental stages. While the inventions during this time period were later evolved into much more useful products, it seems as though the organized warfare in Waterloo was much more effective; the soldier's mediocre training for the Somme was obvious in the chaotic events that occurred. While each battle was disastrous in their own ways, industrialization certainly improved means of warfare and the experience that the soldiers had. The warfare in Waterloo consisted primarily of rifles, swords, cavalry, andartillery; these weapons were most effective close range which resulted in the French and British being in close proximity to one another. With immense amounts of training, a variety of battle tactics and formations, the square was ultimately the most effective. However, despite being located a short distance away from the enemy, thick, black smoke obstructed the soldiers' vision on both sides of the battlefield, creating a less than optimal battle conditions. • 18. Gun Laws And Practices Regulate Gun Control Guns have always been a major problem in the United States of America. The Second Amendment to the Constitution gives us the right to "bear arms," which makes everyone feel they need to have a gun, and that can lead to dangerous situations for people in the US. It is very easy to get yourself a gun. It costs less than an iPhone to get. The problem I am trying to get at is that there are inevitably going to be gun–use violations, and people can use the Second Amendment to get guns way too easily. My essay will deal with how we can create laws and practices to regulate guns, how we can stop guns from getting into the wrong hands, and also how we can prevent mass shootings. This is all one big picture. There is a slippery slope, where one problem leads to another. I feel that most people don't understand what the Second Amendment means to other people. Many people think, "I have to carry a gun on me at all times" or, "Since I have the right to, I am going to buy assault rifles and machine guns for the hell of it. See the Second Amendment." But nowhere in the Second Amendment does it state that you have a right to bear arms to protect your home, or if you feel you are in danger. It is so easy to obtain almost any gun. I mean, someone could easily buy a machine gun or assault rifle. A simple background check and it is yours. And unfortunately, these mass shootings do occur as a result. These shooters can be homegrown terrorists, or tied to terrorist organizations overseas. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Assault Rifle Ban If the government would take a more rapid pace in a full assault weapon ban, then the murder rate in the country would drop dramatically. The U.S. has one of the highest murder rates for developed countries such as Japan who has a murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people and Britain with a 1.2 per 100,000 people. The U.S. has a murder rate of 4.7 per 100,000 people and it is not getting any better. A ban on assault rifles would have a positive effect on the murder rate. Assault rifles are known to be the most dangerous firearm in the world because of its rapid fire capability and its deadly range and damage. That is what makes it such a unique and interesting weapon that should not be taken lightly. The government has been working on some bills but they are not putting enough work into making it happen. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is in charge of the processes of the ban, is suggesting is that the government passes a bill that will limit the capacity of ammunition in a magazine and ban assault weapons that are too dangerous for public use. The safety of U.S. citizens is vital and banning assault rifles will help make the United States a safer place. Assault rifles are defined as one of the most dangerous firearms. The government is working to try to solve the assault weapons crisis, a problem is what they need to ban and what do they need to limit. Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay George Mason, a co–author of the Bill of Rights, said "To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them" If this is true, why would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S? Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776. Many people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving everyone a high–powered, fully automatic firearm. Another hot–topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select–fire guns (capable of semi–automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have banned owning assault weapons in some sense. In this paper I will discuss lessons that I have learned from the story of John Basilone. John Basilone was a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp who earned the Medal of Honor during World War Two. He was a leader who left a resonating impression in the Marine Corp and the American people during a time of great turmoil; and while not a military intelligence soldier his story has left an impression on me as a leader in today's Army. On the 25th of October 1942 John Basilone and his Platoon were engaged in a battle at Guadalcanal that had already endured for two days. At midnight the Japanese began an attack in which hundreds of Japanese infantrymen rushed the remaining American lines. Sergeant Basilone, who was an experienced machine gunner was in charge of two heavy machine gun sections, quickly organized his formation and began to manage the fight. There are numerous accounts of the actions he took on the battlefield that day including running through gunfire and grenade bursts to resupply his men with ammunition and operating the machine gun himself. Eventually during a small break in the fighting, Sergeant Basilone managed to reorganize his machine guns and remaining men into an improved defensive position which ultimately lead to ... The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient tomorrow." Maybe the generals of World War 1 (WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and rifles and machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the time of technological innovations and changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I will write about are machine guns, planes and tanks. On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of WW1 significant was how it affected the future. One of the first countries to implement the power of the machine gun semi–effectively was Germany. Germany, knowing the immense firepower of such a weapon, increased the amount of machine guns used. In contrast, Britain almost completely denied the machine gun, using results from previous wars to deduce that the machine gun was ineffective. The French had fallen behind in warfare, as Germany was focused on further progression in military advancements and Britain was waging war in South Africa. Everyone else seemed to be progressing because they needed to, unlike France. The French reaction to machine guns was that they were weapons that would make no difference at all. They thought this because the British, who were also their allies, held low expectations towards machine guns, and the French weren't accustomed to modern industrial warfare. The British didn 't really see the effectiveness of the machine gun due to the results and conclusions derived from the South African War. From 1899 to 1902, Britain deployed multiple machine guns and Pom Pom guns to be watched over and observed in terms of effectivity. An immense lack of tactics greatly tainted these observations and thus also tainted the impressions of the machine gun's power. This was due to the machine gun not having tactics to help it excel in warfare and thus it fell behind its brothers, the light machine guns and muskets. Too many murders with assault rifles and pistols happened in campus. Every police officer and nurse cannot forget the tears left on faces of who can never see the sun of tomorrow and even celebrate their 10–year birthdays. Arguments about an old topic of limiting guns and weapons are now rising again; but this time, parents turn to be main supporting force of such prohibition. Emphasizing the right of owning weapons, which is protected by US Constitution, or at least, an amendment, some people are still the resisting power against any forms of restriction of firearms. However, even ignoring the fact that related laws are actually outdated, some actions seem to be necessary for protecting children away from malice of weapon keepers. Therefore, the restrictions of assault weapons should be considered to put onto the agenda due to the excessive power of assault weapons, the obsolete background check system helping proliferation of firearms, and erroneous interpretation of constitution of private arms by opponents. The high explosive had a range of 400m and a blast radius of 5m. Before the M–203, infantry used a weapon called the M–79 grenade launcher. Which largely resembled a sawn off shotgun. The M–79 was designed to take up the gap between maximum hand grenade distance, and minimum mortar fire distance. It could fire an array of projectiles which included darts, buck shots, smoke, gas and flares. The M–79 was ideal in Vietnam terrain. The XM–177E2 or more commonly the "colt commando" or the CAR–15, had telescoping stock for easy handling and could be used more like an SMG instead of an assault rifle which made the CAR–15 a great choice for combat situations where fighting would be extremely close. Although it was popular with Special Forces the CAR–15 saw very limited use with normal battalion units. Infantry used the M–67 recoilless rifle to destroy bunkers. It was a breach–loaded single shot rifle (much like a bazooka and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Weapons of the American Civil War Essay Weapons of the American Civil War Amongst the most lasting of factors stemming from the Civil War are the weapons that were developed. Before the Civil War, the weapons used were highly unreliable, and were not advanced enough to provide the needed defense for a young nation such as our own. Innovative minds created many interesting ways to demolish their enemies without ever having to fire a shot or go into full combat through different types of bombs that were in disguise. Among the advancements in the Civil War were the torpedo, the carbinerifle, the minie` ball, several models of rifle–muskets, rocket launchers, rocket bombs, "Greek Fire," and a wide array of other secret weapons. Torpedoes were quite possibly the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A few years of development and a patent later, the minie` ball was ready for combat. In the 1850's, James H. Burton, a master of arms, made a few alterations such as slightly lengthening the bullet and thinning the walls of the hollow base. These alterations made the minie` ball much easier and cheaper to mass–produce; this is what was used by the blue and gray's out on the battlefields. The Union soldiers were more likely to carry the U.S. Model 1861 Springfield Rifle–Musket than any other weapon. These guns were not the easiest or most convenient weapons even if they were the most common. The Model 1861 was a .58 caliber gun, was 58.5 inches long, and weighed in at a heavy 9.25 pounds. This rifle was nicknamed "The Widow Maker." This nickname was made with great thanks to the minie` bullet which was an integral part of this rifle–musket. The combination of the rifle–musket and the minie` bullet forever changed the face of warfare; thus because for the first time ever, men could aim at a distant target, and have a decent chance of hitting it. This luxury allowed the gun–bearers to hide in a safe place, yet still be able to knock down their target. Colonel George Hanger, an American Revolution officer, wrote in 1814: A soldier's musket if not exceedingly ill–bored (as many are), will strike ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Sniper The Sniper – Original Writing The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay covered in mist and enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon that glazed through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light approaching dawn over the streets and the dark waters of the Lake. Around the deserted Four Courts the heavy guns roared. Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, like dogs barking on lone farms. Republicans and Free Staters were waging civil war. On a rooftop near O'Connell Bridge, a Republican sniper lay watching. Beside him lay his rifle and over his shoulders was slung a pair of field glasses. His face was the face of a student, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He rolled over the roof to a chimney stack in the rear, and slowly drew himself up behind it, until his eyes were level with the top of the parapet. There was nothing to be seen––just the dim outline of the opposite housetop against the blue sky. His enemy was under cover. Just then an armoured car came across the bridge and moved slowly up the street. It stopped on the opposite side of the street, fifty yards ahead. The sniper could hear the dull roar of the motor. His heart beat faster. It was an enemy car. He wanted to fire, but he knew it was useless. His bullets would never pierce the steel that covered the grey monster. The head fell heavily on the turret wall. The woman darted toward the side street. The sniper fired again. The woman whirled round and fell with a shriek into the gutter. Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper dropped his rifle with a curse. The rifle clattered to the roof. The sniper thought the noise would wake the dead. He stooped to pick the rifle up.

Once mutation has occurred, it is easy to tell at first look that that risen zombie is no longer a living member of the human society. Its movement is generally slow with very poor skills and coordination. Its walk is clumsy and unbalanced. This is caused in part by the cellular decay of their nerves and tissue, and also the poor functioning of the portion of the brain that controls functions. • 38. A Brief Note On The Battle Of Tarawa THE BATTLE OF TARAWA Geographical location. Tarawa is an atoll about 2400 miles Southwest of Hawaii. Betio is its largest islet on 3 miles long and 1/2 miles wide on the west side with an airfield from east to west, with a lagoon bordering Tarawa to the north with a bordering reef extending offshore around 1,200 yard. The water of the lagoon was shallower however it was deeper on the south than the north shore which could give a better landing location. Tarawa 's military importance was in its strategic position as entrance of United States through the Central Pacific toward the Philippines Preceding the Battle The Allied forces in the Pacific were victorious at Guadal–canal in early 1943 therefore begun planning for new attacks. • 39. Technological Advancements During The First World War "A nation 's ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability." An English inventor who was of great importance in the invention of the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with him, as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the use of technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First World War (WW1) have led to much of the technology that we have today, ranging form the various weapons modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is significant then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the future. In this way, did the technological innovations in WW1, such as gas, communications and the machine gun, not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our world is shaped today? One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use of gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as it was thought to be the weapon to break the stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life–endangering injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas masks, were invented and improved. Gas in the latter parts of the war was not released from canisters but was fired in gas–filled artillery shells, which led to more accurate and devastating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Ww2 Weapons Essay World War 2 (WWII) was one of the most deadly and destructive events to ever happen in human history. Even with tanks and aircraft, the foot soldiers remain an essential element of modern armies, both because there are tasks they do best, and because even the richest nations can't afford to equip millions of soldiers with tanks. This essay details the various classes of weapons carried and used by infantry soldiers, including the multiple classes of guns. Pistols are generally not suitable for military fighting. With their very short effective range and little ammunition, they are carried in combat by soldiers who are not expected to use them as their main fighting weapon, such as airmen, senior officers, non–combatant soldiers, and other military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A 19th century technology, these rifles were powerful and very accurate weapons, effective to a long range of over half a mile, but since they required manual reloading after each shot, they were never suitable for combat situations which demanded a rapid rate of fire, and were therefore replaced during the war by newer weapons. The only combat role where bolt–action rifles are the best even today, are sniper rifles, where their long effective range and high accuracy are the only things that count. These are bolt–action rifles which are adapted with magnifying telescopic sights, and often also with additional enhancements such as bipods, cushions, and higher standard production, all in order to maximize the sniper's ability to deliver the few selective shots that can sometimes affect the battlefield more than a hail of less accurate bullets. Semi–Automatic Rifles were the natural development from the bolt–action rifle. By simply adding an automatic reloading mechanism, these guns provided the soldier with a significantly faster rate of fire, not just technically, but also because he could keep his aiming eye on the sights and on the target between shots, making continuous aiming and firing possible. These quickly became the basic personal weapons of World War 2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
