6. One day, in front of Las Casas, the Spanish dismembered,
beheaded, or raped 3000 people. 'Such inhumanities and barbarisms
were committed in my sight,' he says, 'as no age can parallel....' The
Spanish cut off the legs of children who ran from them. They poured
people full of boiling soap. They made bets as to who, with one
sweep of his sword, could cut a person in half. They loosed dogs that
'devoured an Indian like a hog, at first sight, in less than a moment.'
They used nursing infants for dog food."

11. North American Indians: The
rejected ones.
The statue depicts and Indian little girl w a teary eye

holding a piece of paper that says DENIED. The little girl
represents the m assacre that ran ram ped in North
Am erica: seclusion, segregation. The greatest difference
in this m onum from the other m
ent onum ents is that the
little girl would stand alone (w hile in the others, there is
the presence of the colonizer). She represents the
people that w on the m
ere arch of the Trail of Tears, the
Indians that w secluded from the Early Am
ere erican
settlers and the last Indians w w driven out of their
ho ere
lands in the plains. Her DENIED sign represents the fact
that the Indians w denied the right of autonom to

defend their lands legally

Represents the last stand of the Native Indians
In centerpiece of this m onum ent, the sculpture is of a girl
hiding in the forest, in the bushes, only her eyes visible.

their people, all the resisters of colonizer oppression.
The girl is hiding from it, because it proves to her that her
