ENG/221 Version 3
1. What is the most common form of written communication in your workplace or in a workplace
you are familiar with? Is expository or technical writing the most common form of written
communication in this workplace? Who is responsible for most of the technical writing in this
workplace?
I used to work at government owned apartments doing maintence work. My boss in the office
used to write memo’s to everyone who lives in the complex, to inform them of what is going to be
done this week by the employees. This is a form of technical writing.
2. What are some common issues you have seen with written communication in the workplace?
Most of the people there were middle eastern and do not understand the English language. So it
is hard to explain what is going to be done on the property. So we usually had to call in a
translator.
3. How can an organization benefit from well written communication?
Well written documents can be a huge aspect in a workplace. Being able to communicate
well will help out drastically. Not communicating well can resolve in bad performance by
employees because they may not know what is what.
4. How do written communication skills differ from verbal communication skills? What are the
challenges a skilled verbal communicator might face when creating technical writing?
Written communication uses appropriate word usage and uses the correct way to speak the
English language. Not having these skills can resolve in poor communication. Verbal
communication means knowing the significance of the tone, body language, and facial
expressions. When not communicating, you lose a method for emphasizing your message.
