Methods of collecting Data
Data collection is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables
of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated
research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. The data collection
component of research is common to all fields of study including physical and social
sciences, humanities, business, etc. Data Collection is an important aspect of any
type of research study as inaccurate data collection can impact the results of a study
and ultimately lead to invalid results.
Here are two new methods of collecting data:-
1- Census: A census is a study that obtains data from every member of a
population. In most studies, a census is not practical, because of the cost and/or time
required.
Advantages :
a) Final data can be very accurate.
b) less chances of missing out data that can be important is there.
Disadvantages :
a) it can be expensive and time consuming
b) it’s hard to collect data from a large number of people
2- Experiment: An experiment is a controlled study in which the researcher
attempts to understand cause-and-effect relationships.
Advantages:
a) Relations between data can be easily distinguished by the researcher .
2. 3- Social media channels :
In the new world , the social media caught the attention of all society levels , it includes
many websites , phone applications, and computer programs( software )
Advantages :
a) an easy available way to collect data
b) it can provide a wide variety of data
Disadvantages :
a) the data available can be inaccurate
b) it can provide information through unprofessional channels or sources .
