2. For nearly four decades, CRY has been relentlessly working for the
underprivileged children in India. Way back in the 1970s when India
was looking for secured jobs and secured lives, Rippan Kaur decided
to set a new benchmark. He along with six of his friends decided to
amend the situation of the underprivileged Indian children. CRY was
literally born from a discussion around a dinner table and since then
has grown by leaps and bounds and has become a name to reckon
with in the development sector.
Rippan used to be an airline purser and was widely driven by the fact
that there was a disparity of privileges in the country. The disparity
between privileged and underprivileged children was clearly
noticeable. During school days, Kapur had joined his school’s social
service club where he used to read to the blind, visit children in

children. Also, when the club adopted a slum, he started a free
dispensary there. In order to raise funds for different activities, the
club started selling milk. That’s how Rippan’s journey towards social
work started. His work towards the club worked like a homework for
CRY.
In 1979, Rippan and his friends decided to not begin from the scratch
i.e. they didn’t want to develop a foundation that worked directly
with the underprivileged children of India. Rather, they wanted to
create a bridge that would connect Indians with social work based
organizations that look for funds to operate.
CRY since then assisted in
deploying good fundraising
methods, and developing
relationships with the
partnered NGOs. No
organization runs smoothly
as it has its own set of
highs and lows and CRY
had its share. But the
foundation has only grown
successfully since its
establishment. Even though
Rippan Kaur passed away
in 1994, the organization
continued to work with the same passion and vigor with his words as
their guiding spirit - “What I can do, I must do.”
The CRY team since the commencement has been wholeheartedly
engaged in the social activities for underprivileged children. The focus
is on creating happy childhoods everywhere. CRY works on issues like
child labor, girl child, malnutrition, poverty, education & illiteracy,

supports projects like Rural Organization for Social Advancement
(ROSA), Salem Peoples’ Trust, Saksham, Sahyog Charitable Trust etc.
The partnerships involve extensive research, communication,
activities and consistent support from all resources. When
people donate to CRY, the money is sincerely used unanimously in
different children’s development activities. Complete transparency is
maintained at every length. Most of the funds for NGO come from
citizens of the country, organizations, and societies.
It is this ceaseless energy why CRY has achieved milestones and has
created a place in peoples’ heart. CRY’s work has not only received
critical acclaim among who’s who in the media but also awards and
recognition. The team has received awards such as Lakshya award
(2012), IPE CSR Corporate Governance Awards for the Best NGO
(2012), Rotary Citizen of Bombay Award (1991-92), Bal Adhikaar
Adhiveshan (1999) and a lot more. Across media like The Huffington
Post, The Better India, and others, CRY has made a place for its own.
Today, you can say CRY has come a long way and is determined to go
more.
Stories of girls being rescued from trafficking, children being enrolled
in schools, infants getting a healthy start to life and similar ones
keep flooding the social media platforms and the website of CRY. The
objective is to eradicate the social evils totally from the niche. While
a bunch of CRY staff and youthful volunteers are engrossed in
different CRY activities, do you see yourself as a part of the family?
You can certainly help. You can donate. Your donation can help in the
fight for child rights protection. Rippan had a dream of India that
garnered happy childhoods. Your small act towards child support can
help in achieving the dream fully. Donate today!
