2. Caffeine Extract From Tea Waste:
Reagents Required:
1. Methylene chloride
2. Na2CO3
3. Distilled water.
Material Required:
1. Tea bags.
2. Beaker (500ml).
3. Separating funnel.
Procedure:
Weigh tea present in tea bags and put content back in the bag.
Add 40ml distilled water and boil for 5mins.
Decant the liquid in beaker and again add 20ml of distilled water
and boil it again for 5mins.
Add Na2CO3 in the beaker and dissolve it and make it cool.
Transfer liquid in separating funnel and add 10ml methylene
chloride and shake it.
Collect the organic layer in the beaker. Make it dry and weigh. The
Caffeine.

we think and feel. It is a stimulant that speeds up our breathing,
heart rate, thoughts and actions.

laboratory
Why do we use caffeine?
People use caffeine for various reasons. Many of us enjoy the taste
of popular caffeinated products such as latte and chocolate.
Students sometimes use caffeine tablets to power through long
nights at the study table. Shift workers also use caffeine products
to help adjust their minds and bodies to odd work hours. Some
people use caffeinated energy drinks to improve their endurance
while playing sports or to dance for long periods. Caffeine has
many benefits but, like any drug, there is also risk of harms.
Use of Caffeine:
A variety of everyday foods and beverages contain caffeine,
including chocolate, cocoa, coffee, tea, soft drinks and energy
drinks. It is also used in the making of some pain relievers, cold
medicines and other medications.
