1. The 12th Course on Advanced Strategic Studies for Senior Ibero-American officers starts at the
CESEDEN
Spain, February 20, 2013 - The Defense Secretary of State opened the 12th edition of one of the most
relevant international activities of the Ministry.
The course, in which the Armed Forces contribute to the training and consolidation of a true Ibero-
American community, will be held at the CESEDEN (Spanish Center for National Defense Studies) from
January 28th to March 15th in cooperation with the Portuguese National Defense Institute (IDN) and will
gather 40 Ibero-American officers and the Spanish Armed Forces and Guardia Civil, who have assumed
or could assume in the future positions of responsibility in their respective countries.
The final objective of this course is for students to share a few working weeks with conferences, forums,
communications, visits to different Units, and study trips in which, apart from addressing relevant
defense issues, it will facilitate mutual knowledge and the understanding of different viewpoints and
interpretations on the current reality. Traditionally, students and teachers are received in audience by
H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias.
This course starts the program of international courses that the Ministry of Defense intends to carry out
this year in the CESEDEN to further strengthen ties with the Armed Forces of those countries which are
located in strategic areas of interest for Spain. Thus, the 7th edition of the National Defense Course for
Senior Afghan Officers will be held in May this year. Also, during the second semester of 2013, two more
courses will be held: the Second National Defense Course for Senior Asian-Pacific Officers and the 1st for
North African and Middle East Senior Officers.
