Michigan Department of Corrections Asks Residents to Sign-Up To Receive Local Alerts
Residents across Michigan can now receive real time public safety messages through Nixle
(Lansing, MI) Michigan Department of Corrections has partnered with Nixle to provide residents with real-time
public safety alerts to enhance efforts to keep citizens informed.
“This system will assist with building a communication structure between the Department of Corrections and the
citizens of Michigan,” said Director Heidi Washington. “It will help solve crimes and build safer communities
benefiting all residents in Michigan.”
Nixle will allow the department to share alerts regarding localized emergency situations, training exercises and
other public information with the residents in the communities around the state’s 33 correctional facilities in the
state’s upper and lower peninsulas. Schools, local governments and businesses can also sign up to receive alerts.
All alerts will be targeted geographically and can be sent via Text, Email, Voice, Web, Social Media and the
Nixle Mobile App in an instant. The service is secure, reliable and easy to use.
To Sign Up:
1. Text your ZIPCODE to 888777 from your mobile phone
2. Go to www.michigan.gov/corrections and sign up via the Nixle Widget
Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device. Residents may also customize
their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a User Profile.

Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Blue Alert Network and Google for unmatched reach
