Using thriller film conventions Male Protagonist
An example of where my short film uses thriller film conventions is by the use of a male protagonist.
This is a very common thriller film conventions as shown by examples of thriller films above
This decision to include a male protagonist was also influenced by target audience research
Using thriller film conventions MaleAntagonist
An example of where my short film uses thriller film conventions is by the use of a male antagonist.
This is a very common thriller film conventions as shown by examples of thriller films above
This decision to include a male antagonist was also influenced by target audience research

Props Theory of Characters Types
After studying 100 fariytales, Vladimir Propp developed a character
theory for studying media texts and productions. Prop discovered that
all characters fall into 7 broard character types, all of which can be
found in a variety of different media.
1.
2. The villain: Locked in a constant struggle with the hero, often trying to harm princess.
3.
4. The donor: Gives the hero an object or a piece of information that helps them prepare for what is to
come.
5.
6. The helper: Assists the hero with their quest, often referred to as their 'sidekick'.
7.
8. The princess: Needs assistance from the hero, usually because they are in some form of danger, typically
the princess is the victim within the narrative.
9.
10. The dispatcher: Is the character who sends that hero on their mission or quest.
11.
12. Hero: Reacts to the donor and saves the princess, often resulting in them falling in love with the princess.
13.
14. False hero: May appear good but has an ulterior motive, or attempts to take credit for the hero's actions.

The villain: Locked in a constant struggle with the hero, often trying to harm princess.
The villain in my Thriller film would be Brunning
The helper: Assists the hero with their quest, often referred to as their 'sidekick'.
The Police officer would be the sidekick because he gets John into the prison for his
objective to gather the evidence
Hero: Reacts to the donor and saves the princess, often resulting in them falling in love
with the princess.
The hero in the film would be John because he manages to gather gather the evidence
needed to convict Brunning of his crimes
Theories that apply to no evidence
Using thriller film conventions Enigma
An example of where my short film uses thriller film conventions is by the use Enigma of hiding the real truth about Brunning and
also that the police officer was on John’s side all along and working with him to build his case
This is a very common thriller film conventions as shown byThe imitation game
This decision to include a male antagonist was also influenced by target audience research in order to make the film more interested
and for it to have a more developed and exciting plot that could lead our audience gripped throughout the whole film.
Developing thriller film conventions Homosexuality
An example of where my short film develops thriller film conventions is by the use Homosexuality. This topic is a very
controversial topic and can be dependent of the way a director or producer portrays the character or situation. It is becoming
more widely accepted and is more commonly shown on screen.
In ‘No Evidence’ it is clear that Brunning is a homosexual as he said “I touched the boy”.This also makes him a paedophile.
I can use the example of the imitation game as a film that also includes a homosexual man as AlanTuring is the lead fictional
character who is opening gay man
Challenging thriller film conventions Weapon
‘No Evidence’ challenges Thriller Film conventions with the use of a possible weapon of the razor (pictured above) to shave
Brunning. Weapons are a commonly used convention in thriller films and can range from a number of objects such as
guns, swords or even objects for the protagonist to defeat the antagonist.
Although the razor itself is not used as a weapon to hurt people it can be said it is a weapon as it is used to gather the
evidence to convict Brunning of his crimes and therefore defeating him.
