2. Where is the Westminster Palace?
The Westminster Palace is in central London.
What is it?
Is a Gothic style building where the House Commons and the House of
Lords meet. But on the past, was a headquarter and a royal residence.
3. The History:
The Palace was built next to the river Thames. The site was an strategic
importance to the King Canute. In October of 1834, the Palace was
destroyed by a fire. The Westminster wall, the Chapel of St. Mary
Undercroft in the Crypt and the Jewel Tower survived the fire.
4. How is the Palace now?
After the fire, the Parliament said about building a new home. Some
designers submitted lots of designs, but the winners were Augustus
Welby Pugin and Charles Barry. During the Blitz, the Palace was hit by
bombs. So after that, the Palace was destroyed again. In 2022, they will
begin repairing the palace.
