2. Who is Saleh Amaidan?
● Saleh is an athlet that was born in Western Sahara.
● He trained in Rabat from 1997 to 2003.
● He is a Saharawi athlete, a specialist in long distance and cross country tests,
runner-up in Africa at 5,000 meters in 1999.
● He was 15 consecutive champion of Western Sahara from 1992 to 2002, both
in cross and on asphalt and 3 times champion of cross of Morocco.
3. His Life
● Until then, Amaidan had always competed under the Moroccan flag. But in
2003, during a race he won in Agde (France), he traveled the last two hundred
meters carrying the Saharawi flag; later, he requested political asylum.
● He resides in France and, although he travels with a French passport, he
cannot participate in international competitions of selections such as the
Olympic Games because the IAAF only recognizes him as a Moroccan athlete.
