2. DANBURIA
Danburia or also knowns as “ TTUNTTUNA “ is a vasque instrument that a lot of people
don’t even know it exists. This instrument is a chordophone. This means, it is composed of
strings and those are the ones that produce the sound. It is a very simple form of box, made
of a wooden sounding box, with strings stretched from end to end. The Pyrenean version of
the instrument numbers 4 to 10 strings but 3 sets of 2 (6 total) is the common arrangement.
3. HISTORY AND IT’S USES
When was the first Danburi built in the Basque Country is still a mystery but according to
some texts, between the XVI and XVII centuries, this instrument was already on Nafarroa
and Lapurdi.
Today we can hear this instrumenton tradicional dances the carnival set of performances
called “ MASKARADA “
