Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits. To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups. Technology For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did. While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis. Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad. Age and Gender When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same. Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers. Race Affects Attitudes As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

談因果 淨空法師講述 前言 人天福報的基本要件 因果報應是宇宙人生的真諦絕非迷信 佛教是教育建立在孝道的基礎上 文昌帝君陰騭文略說 結語 《附錄》文昌帝君陰騭文 【前言】 今天張居士告訴我一樁事。他說,最近台北學校聯考,許多考生到文昌帝 君神像前祈福,供養具千奇百怪,可知社會上迷信的風氣非常濃厚。這種現象 到底好不好?實在說這是個社會問題。不但學生迷信,受過高等教育的許多知 識分子,口裡雖常說要破除迷信學習科學,可是他們生活表現的依舊是深度迷 信。學生考試要拜文昌帝君,大概文昌帝君是主管教學、考試的。社會大眾, 特別是現在民主制度下,聽說許多參加選舉的,無論選市長或議員,都選黃道 吉日去拜神祈福,希望神明保佑能高票當選。這些舉動都充滿濃厚迷信的色 彩。這種祈福能不能得到效果?給諸位說:「完全不能!」精神、時間、金錢 都浪費掉了,於事無補。 印光大師在清末民初,對這種迷信的習氣就有很深刻的觀察。他老人家恆 順眾生,知道大眾有這些祈求,所以極力提倡「因果」之說,希望大家明瞭因 果的道理與事實,都能「種善因得善果」破除迷信的觀念。於是提倡《了凡四 訓》、《安士全書》、《感應篇彙編》。這三種書當時經大師極力提倡,翻印 的數量超過一切佛的經論,而對社會也產生很好的效果。我們要想幫助社會, 端正風氣,破除迷信,必須繼承老法師的理念,效法老法師的精神,全心全力 藉著現代高科技,普遍對全世界宣揚。 「佛氏門中,有求必應」,如何使我們能真正做到有求必應?祈求,有求 的理論與方法,如理如法的求一定得到圓滿的效果。若是違背理論,不懂方 法,那你的求願是達不到的,這個道理我們一定要透澈了解。

這三部書我過去都曾講過,《了凡四訓》的錄音帶、錄影帶及講記都出來 了。而《文昌帝君陰騭文》是在《安士全書》裡,佔全書分量的二分之一,在 台灣流通的《安士全書》是精裝一本,上下兩卷,也有分成四卷。前面二卷是 《文昌帝君陰騭文》的詳細講解,舉出古今許許多多的公案來證明。原文字數 不多,還不到六百字(五百四十四字),但它的說明及印證非常豐富,有幾十 萬字之多。 另外,《太上感應篇》本文只有一千三百多字,亦不算多,可是它的講解 以及引證也非常豐富,約有二十多萬字。這三部是人生必讀之書,不能缺,這 是印光大師濟世度生的真實功德。 【人天福報的基本要件】 學佛要從那裡學起?一定要從做人學起。人都做不好,怎能作佛、作菩 薩?所以佛在《觀無量壽佛經》教我們修學的基礎─「三福」。「三福」的第 一福,經上講了四句:「孝養父母、奉事師長、慈心不殺、修十善業」,這四 句是人天福,看起來很簡單,義理卻是無盡的深廣。因此若要得人天大福報, 一定要將這四句做到。 前二句是根本,就是「孝親尊師」。我們中國這個民族在歷史上經過五千 年還能存在,是得力於倫常的教化。中國之衰是在近二百年,為何衰弱?把倫 常的教學捨棄了。日本今天非常強盛,是世界所公認的,何以強盛?因為他們 遵循中國古聖先賢的教誨。我到日本參學,對日本人非常崇敬,他們保存了中 國古典文化,直到現在還照做。將中國倫常道德的觀念,應用在工商業,所以 他們的工商業能達到世界一流的標準。倫理的觀念,一直普遍存在日本民間; 而我們中國人已將它捨棄,認為這是古老的舊東西,不要了。殊不知古老的東 西才是真實的,所謂萬古常新!日本人比我們有智慧,他們學習西洋的還能保 持傳統的,吸收傳統與西方的長處,所以他們的國家是世界第一等,這是值得 我們深深反省與學習的。 日本從明治維新之後,學習《了凡四訓》,朝野很認真的研究、實踐,建 立國家社會良好的基礎。而我們對這方面卻疏忽了,所以國力也落在人後。 【因果報應是宇宙人生的真諦絕非迷信】

這三部書,從形式上看都講因果報應,但這是真正的事實,這是宇宙人生 的真諦,決不能忽視,不能說它是迷信。我們對於其中甚深的義趣不了解,隨 便扣上「迷信」的帽子把它捨棄,這是錯誤。今天這些學生們為了考試考中, 去拜文昌帝君,陳設供養,甚至准考證都供養在文昌帝君神像面前,這就能保 證考中?這是迷信。若說禮拜、供養文昌帝君的人,個個都能考中;不拜他 的,都考不中,文昌帝君豈不變成貪官?行賄賂,他就包中;不賄賂、不供 養、不拜他的人,學術成績再好也考不中,這豈不是貪官污吏的作法嗎?所以 這樣的心態是十足的迷信。文昌帝君是正神,就是我們中國古人講的「福德正 神」,若把他看作貪官污吏,看作邪神,看作黑社會的頭目,這個罪過很大, 又怎能得他的保佑? 我們要以怎樣的心態對這些天地鬼神?要用莊敬、正大光明的心態。讀書 的目的是什麼?為的是求智慧、求技能。我們有了智慧技能,就應當為社會大 眾謀幸福,為國家、為群眾貢獻出自己的心力,這樣自然得到這些福德善神的 幫助。換言之,神明幫助你是因為你有能力,有真實的功德,他才幫得上忙。 若沒有這份功德,即使想幫也幫不上,我們要明暸這個道理。 【佛教是教育建立在孝道的基礎上】 供養、祭祀天地鬼神不是迷信,是教育。中國自古至今,政府與民間逢年 過節都知道要祭祀祖宗,這是中國固有文化。祭祖目的何在?《論語》講得很 清楚:「慎終追遠,民德歸厚矣。」我們對於千百年的祖先都還懷念、感恩; 眼前的父母尊長那有不尊重、不感恩之理?這是根本的教學。所以,祠堂決不 能廢除,祭祀也不能廢。國家年年提倡祭孔,孔子是師道,師道是建立在孝道 的基礎上,人如果不孝順父母,怎可能尊敬師長?所以佛家基礎的教學,第一 句是「孝養父母」,第二句才是「奉事師長」,這說明師道建立在孝道的基礎 上。古代帝王有宗廟,百姓有祠堂。從遠古到現代,團結我們的民族,使我們 這個古老民族不被歷史淘汰,而且還有前途,根源就在此。中國的教育與佛法 的教育,都建立在「孝敬」的基礎上。成佛作祖無非是將「孝敬」發揚到極 處。「孝敬」做到究竟圓滿,在佛法裡就叫「成佛」。 【文昌帝君陰騭文略說】

對於天地鬼神,今天特別講文昌帝君。我們供養文昌帝君,應當要學習文 昌帝君。換言之,文昌帝君的《陰騭文》不可不讀,不可不明,不可不遵照奉 行。如果我們熟讀,深解其義,努力奉行,必得神明的佑助,有求必應。能夠 不為個人名利,如理如法去求,發願犧牲奉獻自己,為眾生、為社會、為人群 工作,才能得神明的佑助,得諸佛菩薩的關照,這就是佛門中講的加持保佑。 一、救人之難。濟人之急。憫人之孤。容人之過:我們要學文昌帝君的存 心,他存的是什麼心?是「救人之難、濟人之急、憫人之孤、容人之過、廣行 陰騭、上格蒼穹。」我們是不是這樣做?有沒有存這樣的心?眾生有難,特別 是現代社會,全世界任何一個地區都有災難。災難是怎麼形成?迷信形成的。 迷信從那裡來?從自私自利而來。人的起心動念都為自己,為自己的名聞利 養,這是迷,於是所作所為都是損人利己。而事實的真相是「損人決不利 己」;要想利己,一定要利人。「利他」才是真正的「利己」,這是真理!現 在幾人懂這個道理?幾人知道這個事實真相?平民為自己的身家做損人的事; 乃至於國家主政的人,為了自己國家的利益,往往做出損害其他國家利益的 事。這都是出於自私自利,想法、看法、做法都錯,於是災難就來了。 災難已非常明顯形成,有識之士時刻在提醒大眾。譬如科學家提出警告, 如果今天環保還繼續做不好的話,五十年後地球就不適合人類生存。因為今天 地球上空大氣光化的污染,已快達飽和點;如果達到飽和,上空不能負荷,污 染必定降落地面。它所飄落的地區,不但動物不能生存,連植物都不能生長, 這種災難比原子彈還可怕。原子戰爭人還能控制,這種光化污染,將來落在地 面是沒法抗拒的;唯一的方法就是改善現在污染的環境。污染從那裡來?從飛 機、汽車、工廠排出來的廢氣,但現在非但不可能將這些全部停止,甚且還在 不斷增加中,這怎麼得了!這個事實科學家充分理解,但也無可奈何。災難眼 看就要降臨,這是人類的浩劫。空前的浩劫是人為的,就是破壞地球自然的生 態而產生。所以,科技帶來的方便,我們付出的代價太大了,真是得不償失。 中國人有沒有科技能力,有沒有科技智慧?有!在歷史上,東漢中國人已 經做滑翔的飛行。在《三國誌》裡諸葛亮造木牛、流馬,那是機械化的運輸, 就懂得利用機械的動力。但他們有智慧、有遠見,知道科技發達會帶來人類大 災難,所以他們死後把這些技術全毀滅,不留給後世。這是中國古聖先賢有技 能、有智慧、有慈悲心,對歷史負責。外國人有聰明智慧,但他們沒想的這麼 遠,沒想到以後科技產生的副作用,會對整個人類帶來廣大的災難,這是大家 見到的。

還有一點大家疏忽的,是人心的污染絕不亞於自然生態污染。人心的污染 是什麼?貪瞋癡。佛稱它「三毒」。儒家的教學與佛法的教學,總是教人「看 破、放下」,將三毒煩惱降低,使它的成長緩慢。智慧高的人,不但防止貪瞋 癡三毒的成長,且把三毒消滅,轉三毒為三慧,把三毒煩惱轉變成高度的智 慧,這才真正達到佛法教學的目標。現在我們也將這個教學疏忽,因此貪瞋癡 不斷增長,加速度的增長,普遍到全世界每個國家地區。內有三毒,外有污 染,這個災難還得了!幾人真正覺悟,發大悲心「救人之難」? 「救人之難」要從自己本身做起。大家都搞貪瞋癡,我把貪瞋癡徹底放 下;大家都追個人的名聞利養,我要把名聞利養捨棄。不但要用言語、文字來 宣揚,自己還要做榜樣給人看。為何不走生路,偏偏走死路?所以,今天「救 人之難、濟人之急」的意義比過去更深廣,要有更高的智慧、更好的技術,才 能積極救危,這是文昌帝君的存心。特別是「容人之過」,人非聖賢,孰能無 過?只要能改過自新,我們就應當容納他,幫助他。 二、廣行陰騭。上格蒼穹:「陰騭」就是我們做一切好事不必讓人知道, 不需要讓社會大眾表揚,一表揚所做的功德就報銷了。做種種好事不讓人知 道,這就是「陰德」,又叫「陰功」。現代人做一點好事巴不得社會大眾都知 道、都來表揚他;做壞事又怕人知道,所以他的罪惡就累積在那裡。善的因很 快就報掉,惡的因永遠潛伏在那裡,將來惡報不堪設想。佛菩薩教我們做好事 不要讓人知道;所做的壞事、惡事,趕快希望人家都知道,這叫「發露懺 悔」。你的惡行大家知道了,都責備你,這一責備就報掉。所以,希望我們的 惡業趕快報掉,善業累積在那裡,往後的善報就厚,這才是真正聰明人的作 法。 三、印造經文。創修寺院:文昌帝君教導我們的這些話,全文不超過六百 字,真有心要學、要效法的,應當將它背熟,應當字字句句去研究,深解義 趣,努力奉行。裡面有二句,我特別提醒諸位:「印造經文,創修寺院。」大 家讀這二句,千萬不要以為是提倡迷信,我們要懂得它現代的意義。「印造經 文」,經文都是勸善,都是幫助一切眾生開悟的,應當要大力流通。「寺院」 是講學修持的處所,絕對不是提倡迷信。現在寺院裡做的是什麼,我們不必去 理會。我們要懂得寺院是推行佛陀教育的場所,若裡面經常講經、研究討論, 研究如何將佛的教誨,落實在我們日常生活中、工作裡;處事待人接物都不違 背覺正淨的方向、原則,這個寺院就是真實的道場。

四、點夜燈以照人行。造河船以濟人渡:文裡有「點夜燈以照人行」,這 是在古時候;現在晚上燈火通明,我們應當怎麼做?應當體會它甚深的意義。 燈是表智慧,眾生在迷暗當中,我們要幫助他們破迷開悟,這就是「點夜點以 照人行」。 「造河船以濟人渡」,從前交通不便,遇到河一定要用渡船渡過去,現在 交通便捷,也不需要了。我們現在一定要幫助一切眾生破迷開悟,離苦得樂, 這就是造渡船。佛講經說法,就好比是渡船,從生死岸到涅槃岸;從六道輪迴 岸度到西方極樂世界岸。由此可知,「渡船」就是講經說法。今天電視廣播、 國際網路就是「渡船」。我們利用這個好工具,將佛法、善法、破迷開悟之 法,推薦給廣大的社會群眾,使他們看到、讀到,都能覺悟過來,就是達到彼 岸。 五、勿因私讎。使人兄弟不和。勿因小利。使人父子不睦:後面有一些重 要的開示,要特別記住。「勿因私讎,使人兄弟不和;勿因小利,使人父子不 睦。」這兩句話廣泛的說,是決不可因個人利益而破壞團體,使團體不和;不 能因我小團體的利益,破壞大社會整體的和睦,那就造極重的罪業。善人,我 們一定要親近;惡人,我們一定要敬而遠之。「遠」不是說迴避他、不理他, 是不能學他;「親近」是要效法他,這樣才能成就自己的德行道業,才能真正 如佛所說的「有求必應」。所以,「有求必應」不是句空話,它有很深的道 理,有很善巧的方法。我們明白這些道理,懂得這些善巧方法,如理如法的修 學,才能真正得到有求必應。求富貴得富貴;求功名得功名;求兒女得兒女; 求長壽得長壽;乃至於求作佛、作菩薩,都能得到,沒有得不到的。 【結語】 現前社會大眾,特別是中年以上的人,都非常注重健康長壽,都希望自己 能夠減緩衰老。能不能做到?都做得到!命裡沒有的也能做到。袁了凡先生, 算命的算他壽命只有五十多歲,他並沒求長壽,但是他積功累德、斷惡修善, 他的壽命自然延長。希求中最困難的求壽命都能得到,何況其他。其他的比起 壽命來看是小利;最大的利益都能求得,何況這些小利益? 功名富貴屬小利,沒有一樣求不到。怎樣求?我今天介紹諸位,一定要細 心研讀《了凡四訓》、《安士全書》、《感應篇彙編》。這三本書是印光大師

一生極力提倡的。在台灣也很流行,很容易找到。佛陀教育基金會、景美華藏 圖書館以及其他佛教的團體,都有流通贈送。諸位有需要可寫信到這些地方, 相信他們都會滿足大家的願望。所以,求佛求神也並不是完全迷信,這裡面有 很深的道理。你明理、如理如法就不是迷信,是正信。假如你昧理不如法,那 是迷信。迷信是不能滿願的,一定要遵循諸佛菩薩、古聖先賢的教誨,契入這 個境界。 現在學佛的人很多,真正契入的不多,原因在於有障礙,就是佛法常講的 「業障」。因此雖經歷長時間修學,依舊不得其門而入。障礙是什麼?簡單的 說,就是自私自利,佛法講的「我執」、「煩惱障」,這些使我們不能入境 界,得不到真實的功德利益。只要把障礙除掉,就有求必應。換言之,我們必 須把觀念轉過來,從前起心動念都是為我,自私自利;從今而後,起心動念為 社會、大眾、一切眾生,念頭就轉過來。念頭一轉,業障就消除;消除業障, 自然就生智慧。有智慧才能解決一切問題,才能真正達到有求必應。 希望諸位同修遵循印光大師的教誨,認真讀誦研究實行這三本書;然後你 拜佛、拜菩薩、拜神,絕對是「有求必應」。 《附錄》文昌帝君陰騭文 帝君曰。吾一十七世為士大夫身。未嘗虐民酷吏。救人之難。濟人之急。 憫人之孤。容人之過。廣行陰騭。上格蒼穹。人能如我存心。天必錫汝以福。 於是訓於人曰。昔于公治獄。大興駟馬之門。竇氏濟人。高折五枝之桂。救蟻 中狀元之選。埋蛇享宰相之榮。欲廣福田。須憑心地。行時時之方便。作種種 之陰功。利物利人。修善修福。正直代天行化。慈祥為國救民。忠主孝親。敬 兄信友。或奉真朝斗。或拜佛念經。報答四恩。廣行三教。濟急如濟涸轍之 魚。救危如救密羅之雀。矜弧恤寡。敬老憐貧。措衣食周道路之饑寒。施棺槨 免屍骸之暴露。家富提攜親戚。歲饑賑濟鄰朋。斗稱須要公平。不可輕出重 入。奴婢待之寬恕。豈宜備責苛求。印造經文。創修寺院。捨藥材以拯疾苦。 施茶水以解渴煩。或買物而放生。或持齋而戒殺。舉步常看蟲蟻。禁火莫燒山 林。點夜燈以照人行。造河船以濟人渡。勿登山而網禽鳥。勿臨水而毒魚蝦。 勿宰耕牛。勿棄字紙。勿謀人之財產。勿妒人之技能。勿淫人之妻女。勿唆人 之爭訟。勿壞人之名利。勿破人之婚姻。勿因私讎。使人兄弟不和。勿因小 利。使人父子不睦。勿倚權勢而辱善良。勿恃富豪而欺窮困。善人則親近之。 助德行於身心。惡人則遠避之。杜災秧於眉睫。常須隱惡揚善。不可口是心

非。剪礙道之荊榛。除當途之瓦石。修數百年崎嶇之路。造千萬人來往之橋。 垂訓以格人非。捐貲以成人美。作事須循天理。出言要順人心。見先哲於羹 牆。慎獨知於衾影。諸惡莫作。眾善奉行。永無惡曜加臨。常有吉神擁護。近 報則在自己。遠報則在兒孫。百福駢臻。千祥雲集。豈不從陰騭中得來者哉。
