1. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products? (i.e. of real film openings)

2. Title of the film
• This is the first of the nine frames I had screen
grabbed. We decided to have the main title come in
at this point as there is a sudden change in
atmosphere when the alarm clock goes off where the
music changes from very dramatic to mysterious. At
this point our title sequence changes from a
montage to a continuous title sequence so we
thought it was an appropriate point to add the title
of the film in. We chose the title ‘Missing’ as our film
is about a kidnapping where a girl goes missing. This
is a very typical title for a thriller film.

3. Setting of the film
• The screen shot I used is showing the where
the film is set. Our film is set at the Castlefield
house. We decided to use this as our setting
because it was the easiest option for us to do.
The shot shows a Point of View shot looking
into the window. The purpose of this shot is
that it gives the audience an idea that there is
someone spying on the character in our film.

4. Costumes and Props used
• The third frame shows the costumes and the
props we used for our film. We used these
props as shown in the screenshot to make the
the setting of the room to look more like a
teenage girls room. This shows a stand to hold
jewelry and a couple of family pictures on the
window sill. This helps the audience
understand where we are in the film.

5. Camerawork and editing
• The camera work used in the first screenshot implies
something mysterious as it is a point of view shot of the
camera looking into the window and then turning back, this
gives off a mysterious atmosphere which fits really well with
our thriller film. The second screen shot shows two shots of
editing where the camera zooming in on the very obvious
word in the bold heading ‘DEATH’ which gives the audience an
idea of what the film is looking towards. The editing we used
in this part was we swapped from the newspaper opened to
the newspaper closed using match on action.

6. Title Font and Style
• This screenshot shows the style of the font we
used the titles of our film.

7. Story and how the opening sets it up
• The screen grab I decided to use for how the
opening sets up the story was towards the end of
the sequence where you can see our character
walk off into the distance, this gives us an idea
that after this scene she goes ‘missing’ which is
the title of our film. We get this sort of vibe
because of the sounds and music on the
background gives off an eerie and mysterious
atmosphere which makes the audience believe
she is the character that will go missing.

8. Genre and how the opening suggests it
• The genre for our film is a thriller. The opening of our film
makes it very easy to suggest our film is a thriller purely
based on the sounds and the music in the background of
the title sequence. The sounds give off a very dark and
mysterious atmosphere which fits in very well with a
thriller type film. The audience can also tell it is a thriller
based on some of the shots we used. We used a lot of point
of view shots to suggest that there is a second unknown
character in our title sequence looking into the house of
our known character. A lot of close up shots also like the
screen grab I took of the newspaper article that clearly
points out the word ‘death’ which is a main part in a thriller
film.

9. How characters are introduced
• In our title sequence our characters are
introduced at the beginning of the film where
you see our main character waking up in the
morning and getting ready for the day.
