3. HISTORY
The Tam-tam is a kind of
gong that comes from oriental
culture.
In Occident, was employed
firstly in France in 1791 by
François-Joseph Gossec.
4. CHARACTERISTICS
It is a percussion
instrument, consisting of
a flat circular metal plate
of various alloys, usually
bronze. It has a little
elevation in the centre.
5. HOW TO PLAY IT
When you hit it, it emits an indeterminated sound.
The origin point of the sound vibration is in the elevation
of the centre.
Although it’s a relatively soft instrument, it can go
from a pianissimo to a fortissimo.
It lasts some tenths in emit the sound so the
percussionist has to advance the hit.
When the percussionist wants to turn off the sound,
he has to do with the hands or hug it.
It can be played with one or two maces.
