FOR RELEASE: Wednesday, May 23, 2017
Sarah Kennedy from Augustana University and Coley Ries
from Minnesota State University, who were named as the
top players in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
for the 2017 season, can now add another major honor to
their resumes as they head this year Division II Collegiate
Commissioners Association’s All-America team.
Ries, who has led the Mavericks to their first Division II
quarterfinal appearance since 2011, leads the nation with
426 strikeouts this season and has held opposing teams to
the fewest hits per seven innings, giving up just 3.53 per
seven innings to earn the “Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year”
award.
Kennedy landed the “Ron Lenz Player of the Year” honor
following a season in which she batted .505 – the second-
best average in Division II – and had a national-high 32
doubles in leading the Vikings back to the NCAA Central
Regional this year.
Kennedy was joined on the infield by three other strong
offensive forces -- Southern Arkansas first baseman
Maddie Dow, the national leader in home runs with 22;
Grand Valley State second baseman Jenna Lenza, who is
third nationally in doubles and Alabama-Huntsville’s Kaitlyn
Bannister, the national lead in runs batted in from her third
base position.
Marisa Monaserri, the top hitter among catchers in Division
II with a .503 average, earned first team honors behind the
plate, while West Texas A&M’s Allie Smith was one of two
from her school named to the first team as the squad’s
designated player.
The second from West Texas A&M named was outfielder
Ashley Hardin, who was chosen along with Colorado
Mesa’s Brooke Hodgson and the nation’s leading hitter,
Christa Reisinger from Truman State. Reisinger leads
Diivsion II with 110 hits and a .509 average. The final
position player selected was utility player Brianne O’Dell from Cedarville.
The offensive players – including first-team utility-pitcher Lyndsay Butler from Wayne State
(Mich.), a two-time first-team selection to the D2CCA All-America squad after hitting .442 at the
plate and winning 24 games in the circle for the Midwest Regional finalist – includes six players
that struck out 10 or fewer times on the year and the nation’s top three hitters in Reisinger,
Kennedy and Monasseri.
Ries was joined on the first team among the pitchers by Harding freshman Autumn Humes,
whom she had three head-to-head battles with during the Central Super Regional last weekend
and West Chester’s Amanda Houck.
This is the 11th season of the All-America program which is selected by CoSIDA members from
schools playing in NCAA Division II and second in which the program was solely sponsored by
the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.

Ries, who has led the Mavericks to their first Division II quarterfinal appearance since 2011, leads the nation with 426 strikeouts this season and has held opposing teams to the fewest hits per seven innings, giving up just 3.53 per seven innings to earn the “Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year” award. Kennedy landed the “Ron Lenz Player of the Year” honor following a season in which she batted .505 – the second- best average in Division II – and had a national-high 32 doubles in leading the Vikings back to the NCAA Central Regional this year. Kennedy was joined on the infield by three other strong offensive forces -- Southern Arkansas first baseman Maddie Dow, the national leader in home runs with 22; Grand Valley State second baseman Jenna Lenza, who is third nationally in doubles and Alabama-Huntsville’s Kaitlyn Bannister, the national lead in runs batted in from her third base position. Marisa Monaserri, the top hitter among catchers in Division II with a .503 average, earned first team honors behind the plate, while West Texas A&M’s Allie Smith was one of two from her school named to the first team as the squad’s designated player. The second from West Texas A&M named was outfielder Ashley Hardin, who was chosen along with Colorado Mesa’s Brooke Hodgson and the nation’s leading hitter, Christa Reisinger from Truman State. Reisinger leads Diivsion II with 110 hits and a .509 average. The final position player selected was utility player Brianne O’Dell from Cedarville. The offensive players – including first-team utility-pitcher Lyndsay Butler from Wayne State (Mich.), a two-time first-team selection to the D2CCA All-America squad after hitting .442 at the plate and winning 24 games in the circle for the Midwest Regional finalist – includes six players that struck out 10 or fewer times on the year and the nation’s top three hitters in Reisinger, Kennedy and Monasseri. Ries was joined on the first team among the pitchers by Harding freshman Autumn Humes, whom she had three head-to-head battles with during the Central Super Regional last weekend and West Chester’s Amanda Houck. This is the 11th season of the All-America program which is selected by CoSIDA members from schools playing in NCAA Division II and second in which the program was solely sponsored by the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.
