KICKOFF
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road for the first
time in Lone Star Conference play on Thursday, Oct. 10,
against Texas Woman’s. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at
Pioneer Soccer Park.
A LOOK AT THE LADY BUFFS
WT improved to 4-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in Lone Star
Conference play with a 2-0 victory over UT Tyler on Saturday
afternoon at The PItch. Saturday’s game also served as the
second annual Jae Hogeland Memorial/ALS Awareness
Game where the Lady Buffs wore red jerseys and socks
to honor those who battled and are currently battling the
disease.
The Lady Buffs got off to a dream start scoring twice in the
opening 20 minutes. Hannah Kelley-Lusk beat the keeper
at the near post from a tight angle for her fourth of the
season following a nice move from Khaline Jacob to beat her
defender down the left side. Jacob provided the assists on
Maliyah Mendoza’s goal in the 20th minute. Mendoza played
a textbook one-two with WT’s No. 12 before beating the
keeper at the far post.
Daniel Estrada picked up her first career shutout in the victory
after making three saves behind a Lady Buff defense that held
the Patriots to 12 shots.
A LOOK AT TEXAS WOMAN’S
Texas Woman’s enters the week 7-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in
conference play following a 4-0 victory over UT Permian Basin
on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers offense is led by junior Haley Ward, who has
scored a goal in three consecutive games including a brace
against Oklahoma Christian. The Fort Worth, Texas product
has a conference-high seven goals on 28 shots while adding
a pair of assists. Riley Sutton and Jaycee Fuller have both
chipped in two goals while dishing out a team-high three
assists.
Daniela Marin has been the featured keeper for TWU as the
senior has started in all nine matches. She has only allowed
six goals (0.68 GAA) with 42 saves and five shutouts. Sarah
Campbell has also seen action in goal for the Pioneers
making an appearance against East Central.
Babak Abouzar is in his seventh year as head coach of
the TWU women’s soccer program where he has led the
Pioneers to a 58-51-14 record including four LSC Tournament
appearances.
THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series 17-6-3 but have
struggled recently away from home. WT has dropped four
of their last five in Denton, the lone winning came in 2016
when Khadidra Debesette scored a brace in the opening 26
minutes.
Last season, the Lady Buffs defeated TWU 2-0 at home
behind goals from Jacob and Calista Cordero. Jacob opened
the scoring in the 44th minute on a nice individual effort
followed by Cordero’s goal in the 70th to seal the victory.
The Pioneers returned the favor on Oct. 21 in Denton with
a 2-0 victory of their own on goals from Libby Murphy and
Haley Ward.

MENDOZA, KELLEY-LUSK EARN LSC HONORS
WT’s Maliyah Mendoza and Hannah Kelley-Lusk earned
Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors, the
league announced on Tuesday afternoon. Mendoza was
named the Defensive Player of the Week with Kelley-Lusk
taking home Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Mendoza did it all for the Lady Buffs last weekend as they
remained undefeated in LSC play with wins over Texas
A&M-Commerce and UT Tyler at The Pitch. She was part of
a defense that only allowed one goal and 11 shots on-goal
helping Daniela Estrada record her first career shutout. The
Dallas, Texas product also produced both assists in WT’s
2-1 victory over the Lions followed by her first goal of the
season in the 20th minute against UTT.
Kelley-Lusk has now scored in all three LSC matches this
season after adding two more to her tally this weekend.
The junior forward scored the game-winner for the Lady
Buffs on Thursday in the 88th minute while opening the
scoring on Saturday in the seventh minute. The Farmington,
N.M. native now has three game-winners this season and
eight for her career which is the fifth-most in program
history.
RECORD WATCH
Kelley-Lusk continues her assault on the record book
after scoring both game-winners for the Lady Buffs over
the weekend. The junior now ranks fifth all-time with eight
passing teammate Khaline Jacob and Kendall Kitchens
(2006-10). Her three game-winners through seven games
this season are the 10th most in a single season.
Kelley-Lusk and Jacob have both scored 16 career goals,
three shy of reaching the career Top-10 list. Jessica
Rodriguez (2000-02) scored 19 goals during her career
while Jessie Thomas (2011-14) had 20 of her own.
Mackenzie Taylor is 72 minutes short of passing Taylor
Cromeens (2007-10) into third in career minutes played.
Cromeens played in 5,585 minutes during her four-year
career where she helped the Lady Buffs to their first
regional title in 2009.
6 WINS AWAY FROM THE CENTURY MARK
With their 2-0 victory over UT Tyler on Saturday, 10th
year head coach Chad Webb improved to 94-73-20. The
former WT standout is six wins away becoming the second
coach in program history to reach the 100-win plateau.
The Lubbock, Texas native has led WT to four consecutive
10-plus win seasons including back-to-back NCAA
appearances.

At WT (10th Season) 94-73-20 (.554)
Chad Webb enters his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buff soccer team after being introduced as the second head women’s
soccer coach in program history on January 13, 2010 as the duties of men’s and women’s head coach were split due to the success
of both programs. Webb was previously an assistant to Butch Lauffer for 14 seasons, after a tremendous four-year career as a Buffalo
in the mid 90’s.
WT had one of its best years in program history in 2018 under Webb as they won the program’s eighth Lone Star Conference regular
season title along with winning their first South Central Regional Championship since 2009. The Lady Buffs went 14 games unbeaten,
a program record, en route to finishing 15-4-3, 10-1-1 in LSC play, earning the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. After deafeating
UC-Colorado Springs in penalites in the regional semifnals, WT defeated DBU on penalties (5-4) a week later in Canyon for their first
regional title in close to a decade. Hannah Kelley-Lusk earned United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American Honors after scoring
nine goals, including four game-winners, to go along with her team-high six assists. Cheyenne Orozco was named the Lone Star
Conference Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a defense that allowed 0.86 goals per game.
In 2017, WT returned to the NCAA postseason after winning the Lone Star Conference Tournament over top-seeded Angelo State
in San Angelo. They would defeat the Rambelles a week later in the opening round of the NCAA tournament before falling to No. 2
seed UC-Colorado Springs in the semifinals.
The Lady Buffs won their second regular season Lone Star Conference title in 2016 in program history sharing the honors with Texas
A&M-Commerce. Under Webb’s guidance, WT finished with a 11-6-0 record, 9-3-0 in LSC play, including a eight match winning streak.
The 11 wins are the second most during his tenure. He was named LSC Coach of the Year for the second time while senior midfielder
Karyn Forbes was named Midfielder of the Year.
WT finished the 2015 campaign with a record of 10-10-1 leading the team to their second LSC Championship match in the past three
seasons. They defeated two top-25 teams during the season incluindga 1-0 triump over #4 Angelo State in the LSC semifinals. Webb
earned his 50th career victory during the 2015 season with a 2-0 victory over Lubbock Christian on Oct. 28, 2016.
In the fall of 2014, the Lady Buffs finished the year with a 7-11 mark overall. The year prior, going into the final weekend of the
regular season in 2013, Webb led the Lady Buffs to two big Lone Star Conference wins to make the LSC Tournament as the #4
seed. WT opened up the tournament with a 1-0 victory over the host, #1 seed Angelo State, before falling to Midwestern State in the
Championship game in PKs.
Webb guided the Lady Buffs to an outstanding season in 2012 as the team went 13-7-1, winning both the regular season and
conference tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament for the first time under Webb and first since 2009.
Following the season, Webb was named LSC Coach of the Year and Panhandle Sports Soccer Coach of the Year.
The 2011 campaign saw the Lady Buffs fight through numerous season ending injuries to make their 14th appearance in the LSC
Tournament as the #6 seed. WT topped Eastern New Mexico in the Quarterfinals before falling to Midwestern State in OT to end
their season with a 9-10-1 overall record.
2010 saw the Lady Buffs register an 8-7-3 overall record and finish seventh in the LSC standings with a 4-6-1 mark, missing the
conference tournament by one spot.
Before taking control of the Lady Buffs in 2010, Webb had been an assistant coach with the women’s soccer program for 13 seasons,
where his main responsibilities revolved around the everyday operations and coaching of the program. He handled the bulk of the
recruiting duties for the Lady Buffs, while also assisting with the Buffalo men’s team, as well.
The Lady Buffs enjoyed a very successful 2009 campaign, as they advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history and
recorded a 15-3-4 overall record. WT hosted both the LSC Tournament and NCAA Preliminary Rounds for the second consecutive
season and won its second-consecutive LSC regular-season championship, as well as winning the NCAA South Central Region
Championship.
The Lady Buffs have won either the LSC regular-season or LSC Tournament title nine times since 1997. They won both titles in
2001 and 2008. And, during 2001, the Lady Buffs made their first-ever NCAA Division-II National Tournament appearance. WT has
won a conference leading six LSC Tournament Championships and made 17 appearances in the single elimination field with 12
appearances in the finals.
Following a brilliant four-year playing career with the Buffs, Webb served one season as a student assistant under Butch Lauffer
before serving another four seasons as a graduate assistant. During his playing career with the Buffaloes, from 1992-1995, Webb
scored 10 goals and provided 20 assists while also serving as the Buffs’ captain. As a junior, he earned a berth on the second-team
Adidas all-West Region Academic list.
Webb, a native of Lubbock, Texas, holds a USSF “A” license, has been active in the community as the Director of Coaching for
Amarillo Lightning and enjoys developing youth soccer talent in the Texas Panhandle. He conducts many soccer camps and clinics
throughout the area each year, and, in 2002, was named Coach of the Year for the North Texas State Soccer Association.
He earned both his bachelor’s (1998) and master’s (2002) degrees in Mass Communication from WTAMU.
Webb lives in Amarillo with his wife, Joy, their two children, Autumn and Samuel, along with their many dogs.
