2. Our Mission
With dignity and respect, the Community Resource Center helps individuals and
families get to the next step of their journey towards self-sufficiency and stability.
The Community Resource Center (CRC), a 501 (c)(3), volunteer-driven
organization, was created in 2011 to assist low income individuals and families in
times of need. The CRC offers a centralized location where residents in the local
community can come when they are facing a crisis.
Our purpose is to:
• Assess the needs of individuals and families
• Identify and coordinate the use of community resources
• Support individuals and families during their time of uncertainty
• Provide financial assistance based on need
• Create partnerships in the community

11. CC's Administrative Assistant Eleanor Marchtmon, not only schedules meetings for clients with volunteer Bob
McDaniel to discuss how to budget for their needs: she also states how that assistance has helped decrease her
financial stress and showed her how to save for goals such as the mortgage of the new house she is waiting to move
into through the Milford Housing Authority. "It can be so stressful to remember what bills need to be paid and when.
After working with Bob, I know how to set up special savings accounts to save for, and automatically pay, my bills on
time. I've even been able to save enough money for my first mortgage.

12. CRC got a frantic call from Alena Kellum, who was about to be evicted from her home. Alena's leg had been amputated
below her knee because an infection was misdiagnosed and subsequent antibiotics did not work. She was in a wheel
chair, but had arranged to be fitted for a prosthesis and return to work a few weeks after her call to CRC. CRC provided
referrals to other agencies which, along with CRC’s contribution, provided enough funding to help her pay the back rent
that had accrued during her ordeal. In addition, CC worked with Alena’s landlord and arranged to spread her next two
months' rental payments out to bridge her to her return to work. The icing on the cake was her employer's agreement to
not only hold her job, but promote her to a supervisory position that required no lifting! Alena was in tears as the
assistance CRC gave and helped her to obtain elsewhere resulted in resolution of her crisis.

15. Each weekday, CRC's Food Rescue Program helps homeless, disabled, elderly and those struggling to work in our
seasonal economy by collecting and offering to its clients a wide variety of food from groceries, residents and other
groups. "We have been able to help a families whose children escaped their burning home, homeless individuals who
have lost everything they had due to some calamity, elderly persons whose resources don't stretch enough for them to
buy food to last a month," says Program Manager Diane Sharon." Our clients, including Joetta Harmon, Suzanne Weir,
William Harmon and Jermaine Maker pictured above are sensitive to taking no more than they need so that others can
also receive help. We are happy when they can leave with a lighter spirit and a smile, knowing they can always get
food from us.

17. CRC's Baby Pantry, supported by the Harry K Foundation, provides diapers, baby formula and other supplies to over 50
needy families with infants. Open twice a month, the Pantry also distributes clothes for infants and children, books and
toys donated by others in our community. Participant Danielle Passannante says that "it's really helpful that they have
clothes and books. They have options for diapers when your child grows. And they offer a lot of other things like shampoo
and food. They do a good job, and it's really appreciated.”

19. For the last seven years Carlotta White has come to CRC for food from our Food Rescue Program, assistance with her
finances, eyeglasses and help securing employment. To expand her employment opportunities, she sought - and CRC
assisted her to gain - entrance into the Advancement through Pardons and Expungement Program with the State of
Delaware. Carlotta's journey has been a mixture of gladness, sadness, obstacles, dead ends, painful disappointments and
finally a level of success. She set personal goals and obtained an entry-level position at Wendy's and a part time position
at Dollar Tree. She began to piece her life together again, but knew that her horizons wouldn't broaden until she climbed
one more step. In March 2018, after several Board of Pardon Hearings that included a denial, Carlotta was recommended
for a Pardon by the Governor. With her future brighter and her options wider, she was asked how this happened. With a
beaming smile, she replied, "My Faith in God; changing things in my life and the support I have received at CRC."
