EXT. GRAVEYARD DAY TIME
17th June 2015, 8.40 AM and the weather is still and has no life to empathize death
and Vanessa Hope is off to visit her parents in the cemetery.
VANESSA walks through the graves wearing jeans and a t-shirt and stops near the
centre of all the forgotten souls (extreme long shot) at her parents’ grave as she stops
there is a close up on her placing flowers by the plaque.
CARS PASSING
Voices in her head possibly her parents voices as memories
VANESSA
Hey guys it’s only me just dropped by to bring you some flowers and tell you that I
had another fight at school yesterday, I know you don’t appreciate me being in this
situation but I can’t just let everyone put me down because you both aren’t around
anymore. So I felt I had to do something. (CRYING) Why should I let my grief
consume me? Why can’t I stick up for you guys?
VANESSA kneels down, and cleans a plaque that reads Mr Hope 10th August 1978-
4th April 2015 and Mrs Hope 29th January 1980-4th April 2015.
THIS REVEALS TEARS IN HIS EYES AND GIVES THE
AUDIENCE A FIRST GLIMPSE OF VANESSA’S FACE.
A high angle shot of her face as she places a framed photo of herself with her
parents and a peculiar character (close up on the family photo) possibly a
neighbour and then stands back up to take a breath(wipes her face to clear the
tears). The fact that Vanessa’s parents only have a plaque is to show that
everyone in the town thought of their family as less important but Vanessa is
shown to be important as she is there honouring them and wanting to get justice
for them.
VANESSA
It seems like only yesterday we were planning our holiday. You being taken from me
is the worst thing ever. I only wish I could have been there with you that night I feel I
could have helped you but you told me to stay with Mr Crooke and for that I am
grateful.
Then it cuts to an over the shoulder shot on someone in a black shirt watching
Vanessa from a distance he remains stationary and keeps movement to a
minimum. This ominous character’s face is hard to make out (throughout this
sequence there a continuous rotation shot around this character then shots

switch between the two characters to sense a connection of some kind in this
sequence).
VANESSA
Things at the hostel are ok I only wish you could have met my friend John Dean as he
makes me feel like everything’s normal again. And I think he likes me so I’m feeling
hopeful but I know you put me in harm’s way but I don’t care I just want you guys
back I...I just want to feel like I have a family again.
VANESSA CRYING
then there is a low angle over the shoulder shot showing the ominous figure
writing johns name in a little book and then he walks away without another look
at Vanessa this then switches to a quick tracking high angle shot to show the
killers face to the audience and it just so happens to be 66 year old Samuel
Crooke…
