Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus who was waiting for the kingdom of God, obtained permission from Pilate to take Jesus' body after the crucifixion. He wrapped the body in linen cloth and placed it in his own new tomb, rolling a large stone to seal the entrance. Nicodemus, another secret disciple, helped Joseph prepare Jesus' body for burial according to Jewish customs, bringing myrrh and aloes to wrap in the linen cloths. They laid Jesus' body in the tomb as the Sabbath was beginning.
