How do I set up LDAP?
Is there a pattern in LookML for cohort analysis?
And even:
Is a burrito a dumpling?
Btw, the consensus was, no, a burrito is not a dumpling

What’s happening in Data and Analytics
Verge
Deliver on the promise
To understand Where we can go… where we’ve been
First Wave
Complete Systems
Monolithic
100% correct
Era of Oracle
Neared the end of its life…
A story
Remember this?
Decided bow it up…
Invited TV and picnics
Uncontrolled
Pieces FLYING
Whale was still there
Kind of like how the 2nd wave
We got pieces
-Prep
-Viz
SQL and M/R
Customers paid
Whale still there
Pain!
We hear it all the time
1 of 2 problems; maybe both
Users need REAL data
Go to the data team
There’s already a line…
3 of 100
Tired of waiting
Look for scraps
Old, incorrect
Total Active Users; LTV
Leads to chaos and brawls
>> Both Impediment to data decisions
Less jefferson/hamilton; more facebook/twitter/cnn -- lots of opinions
Meanwhile… something much bigger
While they were evolving
A Revolution underneath
MPP; Hadoop; Spark; Cloud Redshift, BigQuery
EVOLUTION/REVOLUTION
So, here we are-3rd WAVE
Dawn of something great
Finally deliver on the promise
Totally new architectures
NOT like the monolithic
GREATLY SIMPLIFY the data supply chain
And unlock value
BI - Non-BI - APIs
And that’s what our mission is a Looker
From the beginning we wanted to be
Platform
On new world of data
To deliver on the promise of data culture
And many of you are leading… already doing it
Customer and Partner
Wow, Awesome… THANKS to everyone who helped
But what have you done for us lately?
What’s next for Looker?
Continue to build on the core bets…
Hypothesis correct
Three big bets when we started
Proved to be good to build on
And still true today
DB Faster
We didn’t build our own
So much more to leverage here
SQL Lingua Franca
Hard bet, but paid off
Extend it; Reusability
Data People Key
Data is hard
and data people had the key
But tools were disenfranchising data people
Summary:
We bet on DB Faster… We bet SQL Win… WE BET ON YOU
We’ve been building on these concepts
Proud to announce
Huge undertaking of last 2 years
Some of the largest enhancements since start
With components directed at: Analyst, Consumers, Platform
FOR THE ANALYTS
Refresh of LookML and much more sophisticated IDE
Work better / faster
Easier to learn
Easier to become and EXPERT
Fixed the nits…
Result is… a much better experience… empower the data analyst
FOR THE DATA CONSUMERS
Now that we’ve created these reliable metrics / single source
We have to solve the problem we solved
How to deal with all this content
Not spreadsheet/workbooks… bigger
Content Discovery… Single Biggest
Organize, find, secure, make use of those assets
TO EXTEND THE PLATFORM
Lastly, deliver on Data Everywhere!
This year, you saw Slack, PBL, Salesforce tab
Completely unleash
110% functionality
Move beyond and out of the BI tool
And now for something completely different
One of our top front-end developers
Taking an idea and running with it
Power of the platform
Platform value; what you do with it
Jen mentioned; blocks this year
Excited to announce…
Looker Blocks Directory
50 re-usable analytic templates
12 full data applications
Complete ecosystem...
-Expand what you can do with data on the Looker platform – things in technology have changed, and we want to show you how you can expand your usage & increase your effectiveness with data.
**Sessionization would have been done ahead of time in the physical data, but now you can do that logically because the database can handle it and keep more of your logic in a single code base that’s easily changeable…these are the types of revelations our initial customers are having with Blocks.
-Looker is a Data Platform, that means we can embrace the ecosystem. The Directory allows us to give our Partners & Community experts the ability to build, showcase, and distribute their best practices.
-So many patterns, data sources, and use cases are repeatable. We’re using the Directory to offer templates to quickly take advantage of these so your teams can get to the data problems that haven’t yet been solved.
-Every department is requesting data all day everyday. Your team may not know exactly how to solve everything. The Directory should serve the purpose of finding approaches and patterns that quickly guide you to a solution so no one goes unserved.
Looker Blocks Directory is a key part of that ecoystem[11:04] That lets people go from 0-60 immediately[11:04] and expands their vision of what’s possible with Looker[11:05] Normally, you wouldn’t even consider doing sessionization in you data platform tool. You’d do that before the data was loaded with a specialized process. But with today’s database technology, you can do it right in your warehouse. We want people to know that and we want to show them how
