The Lois Pope LIFE Foundation is an established
funder of programs that focus on international
humanitarian aid, public health, and education.
Through Lois Pope’s efforts, the organization has
provided annual monetary awards to groups such
as the Community of Sudanese and American
Women (CSAW), which assists in relocating young
women refugees of the civil conflicts and ethnic
cleansing in the nation.

endemic cycle of abuse inflicted on Sudanese
women and girls. Domestic violence, sexual assault,
and the forced arranged marriages of very young

curtailed women's ability to achieve education, selfreliance, and personal security for themselves and
their families. Many victims remain fearful of
speaking up about the abuses they have suffered,
and counseling, support, and mental health services
are rarely available.
