Editor's Notes
Local Leaf is an organic product. Perhaps not in the sense it’s made, but in the way it grows. We start with a bottle of water and give information about it.
As we learn more about the environmental impact of bottled water, we add an impact factor, like the distance it traveled.
Then we learn about the impact of the waste an empty plastic bottle creates and how recycled or recyclable plastic can reduce this impact. Then we learn about how companies reduce the impact by focusing on sustainability in the supply chain, eco-friendly transport, smart warehousing, economically routes.
As we further explore this relatively simple product, we mature the environmental impact score. We add more sources of information, as well as more impact factors. More people can contribute and the most engaged people earn more influence on the scoring methodology and data entry verification. Power to the people.
We now have a climate impact formula based on transport and can show the kilometers to the source. We
