1. Career Journaling Assignment – DUE JANUARY 25th
Purpose: To have students connect their skills, interests, values, and goals to twogood, potential
career fits for the future.
Resources: Naviance (career search, CIP, LS, PT), U.S. Department of Labor*, Google, friends, family,
teachers, counselors, and self-reflection.
Each separate journal must be:
Three paragraph minimum
Entered into Naviance journal
Checked for spelling and grammar
Shared with “counselors”
Students should be:
INTROSPECTIVE–introspection (n), the act or process of looking into oneself.
o beliefs
o feelings
o concerns
o hopes
o goals
HONEST(talking points, include all)
o Do you have the basic skills for this particular career (Personality Type)
o Are you willing to put in the work required to attain the amount of education required
for that career (i.e., doctors, surgeons, OB/GYN = 7+ years in college)?
o What subjects are you good at? Does it mesh with what you would have to study in
college?
o Would you enjoy the day-to-day tasks? How do you know?
Things to look for when doing the research:
What are the qualifications for this career?
How do I obtain these qualifications?
How long will I be in school? Continuing Ed?
What is the job outlook for the future in this field?
Would I have to move to another city or state to find a job in this field?
Will I make enough money to support my lifestyle?
What are the day-to-day tasks for this career?
