                          “IMMIGRANTS FIND NEW HOMES”

Objective:

3.1       Recognizes that immigrants come from countries around the
world to make a new home and                     bring their beliefs, traditions       and
social practices.

          ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE-INTRODUCE VOCABULARY

          Connect Science with Social Studies: compare immigrants with migrator animals:
           problems they face, why they migrate to other places, parents or ancestors who
           are immigrant in our city.

           ACTIVITIES TO DO IN CLASS
          Talk about holidays in different cultures and countries.
          Table manners in different countries.
          Birthday celebrations and traditions in different countries.

           INTERVIEW RAQUEL LIBEROW GOLDBERG
          Students ask Raquel questions about her Jewish religion and culture, traditions and
           customs.
                    Students compare their culture and traditions with Raquel’s .

Here’s   your chance to talk to an immigrant.


  1. Choose     a person who is an immigrant or

     whose his/her ancestors are Jewish, American,

     Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, French, etc.



  2. Prepare a list of questions to ask and the

     answers, such as, reasons to settle in this

     country, traditions/customs of their own

     country, holidays they celebrate, beliefs, etc.




  3. Choose who will play this person and who will

     play a news reporter.



  4. Present the interview to your class.

immigrants to talk with. Write and draw to let others know

about this person.

Alto:            Prepares 5 questions, at least one of which is inappropriate or
                 incorrectly answered. Shows some understanding of the
                 interview process and the importance of diversity in a
                 community.



Básico:          Prepares fewer than 4 questions and answers. Shows minimal
                 understanding of the interview process and the importance of
                 diversity in a community.
Bajo:            Prepares vague questions and/or error. Shows no
                 understanding of the interview process and the importance of
                 diversity in a community.
