2. RICHARD M. NIXON
Richard Nixon served as the 37th
president from 1969 to 1974. Before
his term as president, he served as
the 36th Vice President under Dwight
D. Eisenhower. He also served as a
Representative and Senator for
California. Nixon ended America's
involvement in the Vietnam war and
helped to bring American POWs
home.
3. GERALD R. FORD
Gerald Ford served as America's 38th
president, and was the first unelected
president in United States history. He
helped to restore the public's trust in
government following the Watergate
scandal. During his presidency, he
aimed to curb inflation and support
measures that would stimulate the
economy.
4. RONALD W. REAGAN
Ronald Reagan spent two terms as
the 40th president, from 1981 to
1989. In that time, he helped pass
legislation to stimulate economic
growth, curb inflation, increase the
rate of employment, and strengthen
national defense. At the end of his
two terms, the country was
experiencing its longest recorded
period of prosperity without
recession or depression.
5. GEORGE H. W. BUSH
George H. W. Bush served as vice
president under Reagan before
becoming the 41st president,
becoming the first sitting vice
president to be elected president
since 1837. Foreign policy drove his
presidency; there were military
operations in Panama and the
Persian Gulf and the Berlin Wall fell
all during his term. He also signed
the North American Free Trade
Agreement, though it wasn't ratified
until after he left office.
6. GEORGE W. BUSH
George W. Bush served as the 43rd
president of the United States,
making him the second president to
take office after his father. He
became a wartime president after the
September 11 terrorist attacks. In
response, Bush formed a new
cabinet-level Department of
Homeland Security and sent
American forces into Afghanistan to
break up the Taliban. He also ordered
military reform to meet the new
enemy.
