PANCREATITIS
Admission
Diagnosis: obstruction of pancreatic
Nursing diagnosis: acute pain
Subjective Data: skin pale, flushing may be present in acute stage from system inflammation,
generalized edema.
OBJECTIVE DATA: verbal reports of pain nothing specific location and intensity
PATIENT WILL: may require assistance with dietary program and activities of dailyliving (ADL’S) at home
NURSING WILL: control pain and promote comfort. Prevent and treat fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
Reduce pancreatic stimulation while maintaining adequate nutrition.
Provide information about disease process, prognosis and treatment needs.

CARE SETTING
The patient is treated in an inpatient acute medical unit or intensive care unit (ICU) for initial incident or
exacerbations with serious complications, otherwise, condition is managed at the community level.
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
Ultrasound of abdomen
Computed tomography (CT) scan
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Abdominal X-ray
Chest X-ray
STOOL TESTS: measures the levels of elastase, an enzyme found in fluids produced by the pancreas.
